At the beginning of March, the consensus forecast of a group of economists of the rand-dollar exchange rate was R15.58 against the dollar. In April it was R15.25. Last week it traded at R14.04. I must add though that the forecast is for the average exchange rate over the fourth quarter of the year. The economists, therefore, expect the rand to weaken, but not as much as they had thought. So what could all affect the value of the rand in the next six months?
