    Dumb
It could just be me, but the story simply made no sense. For the life of me, I can't figure out how the couple went from lust to love. And the whiny tone of the captive who, all-too-quickly, refuses to acknowledge that she was a captive, was waaayyyy too much. This story was so short, and, yet, it was too long for me. To not pass the need-to-fast-forward test in just a little over 2.5 hours is pitiful. I think the premise was a good one but sooooo poorly executed it's not even worth the small price. In this case, I guess I got what I paid for. Even though I think I still paid too much. I will always get to the end of story in order to have closure, feel like I didn't completely waste my money, and see if my poor assessment improves. And so I got to the end this time too, though I had to fast-forward to lessen my grimacing moments. And it never improved. Boy was I happy when it was over while also tremendously disappointed.

Great story, good for language skills
Would you listen to Im Zwielicht (The Vampire Diaries 1) again? Why?
Yes - I enjoyed the story, and it will be good practise for my German language skills to listen to this again.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Im Zwielicht (The Vampire Diaries 1)?
The meeting of Stefano and Elena and when they first start to get on with each other.
Have you listened to any of Adam Nümm and Jennie Appel s other performances? How does this one compare?
Yes, I have also listened to the second book in the series, Bei Daemmerung which is also a great performance. I listened to the whole book on two car journeys and it passed the time very well.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes - I listened to most of it in one sitting while I was out walking - I just wanted to keep on listening and find out what happened next. I was so keen to find out what happened next that I have now listened to the second audiobook in the series and bought the third.

Do Not Judge this Book By Its Cover ...
or maybe you should. I had forgotten the synopsis to this book by the time I started reading it. It starts out as a suspense novel, the two main characters trying to flee Germany at the outbreak of World War 1. There is sex, and it is interesting because of the relationship between the two and the age difference. Then they go on a road trip and get to know each other, fleeing, as war looms on the horizon.
    And then ... Werewolfs!
So then, back to the War. A very detailed description of the miserable early days of World War 1, seen from the viewpoint of several young and untried British officers and enlisted men, as well as nurses at the hospital on the front. The details of the journey to France, their advance through the French countryside and their initial introductions to combat are realistic and well written. The conditions at the hospital are described in interesting detail. Throw in some social issues of the day - homosexuality is still illegal in Britian and evidently being Jewish or even Catholic isn't a whole lot better and these issues are discussed in the context of the war and how it changed the world. There is more sex. This time interesting because of the social issues mentioned above.
And then ... a cross dressing bat-man and ... more Werewolfs!
It felt like two books had been torn apart by chapters, several chapters thrown away and then the rest interspersed into one book.
And yet, somehow, it worked. The characters were all interesting, especially the two main characters a 40-something spinster/scientist and a considerably younger, but just as eccentric, French spy.
As for the cover, I get the guy - the Gallic nose is mentioned in the book. But he is the only person in clothes. Did the artist think making him naked too would make it harder to identify the nose as "Gallic"? And which naked woman is the 40-something spinster and which is the werewolf? And if the bottom woman is the werewolf, it looks like she is laying on an animal fur. How creepy is that? And what is with the pearls? Neither the middle aged spinster/scientist/nurse or the werewolf seemed the pearl type.
But don't let the cover deter you. This was a pretty good read. I recommend it.

Nothing like as good as the middle three...
This made me really angry! I listen in 1.5 hour chunks, and in the first chunk you get the classic male-rape fantasy - woman forced into sex which is totally mind blowing for her as her traitorous body yearns towards him - shame on this author for promoting such drivel!
Then in the next chunk after she's forgiven him for virtually raping her, they make out in a room full of people. Now maybe they could forget the others but I sure as hell couldn't - it was really uncomfortable and I almost cheered when someone tells then to knock it off - hear hear, say I!
Later, having specifically told us how precious water is in the werewolf tunnels, they make out under the shower - wasting water! Again, maybe they forgot, but I spent the whole time thinking turn the bloody water off!
The ending was flip and this couple never get together just because they want to - there's always the \"we have to save the world through sex\" thing going on. Oh and the heroine is a hemophiliac whose blood heals, and she drips and pours and gushes all over the place, and it's a hell of a long way in before there's any mention of how pale or tired she is.
No, I didn't like this. I'd have chucked the book, but at these prices I feel I have to listen to the bitter end. And with an audio book it's difficult to skip bits!
    A disappointment.

With the fate of the Almighty hanging in the balance, Lucan must find faith in something more terrifying than the dark lords creations. He must learn to believe his heart.

    This series is awesome!!!!
Oh my gosh! This series just has me wrapped around it's spine. Lucan and Chloe have some MAJOR trust issues that they have to work out and along the way some 'sit on the edge of your seat' stuff is happening that left me wondering how in the world this was going to end up. Not just their story but a certain secondary character as well. I can't soak up enough of these guys and Claire Ashgrove weaves a story line that has me amazed and flipping the pages as fast as I can. Twists, turns, and flat out knock you for a loop things are happening. Love, love, love this!
Another great add to a series
Yet another great add to this series. Lucan and Chloe must overcome a lot of things to become the seraph/Templar pair that is foretold. Lucan senses a darkness surrounding Chloe, and mistrusts her. He needs to get over that mistrust in order to really get close to her. Chloe, on the other hand, trusts no one but her brother, because of her romantic history. She sees Lucan as a rival archeologist, who is just out to steal her find, and get all the glory of the find for himself. The Templars are still fighting with Azazel, and still trying to retrieve the holy relics that need to be kept from Azazel. We meet more of the European Templars, and get a little more background on several of them. There are set-ups for future storylines here, and more Templars are starting to emerge. Overall, it was a great addition to the series, and a great read.
    Well written and extremely poignant.
First time I've read this author and also first review I have ever done for any of the hundreds of books I have read. I enjoyed this series so much I had to express my recommendations to any one who wishes to read a good story that has everything. A bit of history, lots of action, and lots of lovin'. The love story is all about emotion and the writer has expressed it well. The sex is not just sex, but is based on true underlying feelings between the hero and heroine. This is the kind of paranormal romance I love to read and Ms. Ashgrove does an exceptional job of putting it all together into a story I could not put down until the last page. I highly recommend this series and am hoping there will be more to come from the author.
    More
I do hope that this great cast of characters is going to go on. I am going also hope that the next book will be out very soon. These books are a wonderful read hope everyone who loves a good love story and adventure will read these books.

With his dying breath, Samara Frank's father bids her to find the Templar Krestien de Godfrey. Only he can protect her and the ancient Sumerian relic they unearthed in a Mayan burial chamber in Belize. It's a piece of the mythical Adama Tablet and a prehistoric alien god with a cult following called the Covenites will use everything in their power to get the tablet - from the Ark of the Covenant and the Spear of Longinus to Samara's own damaged sister, Sierra.
Krestien de Godfrey is a man haunted, the bastard son of Godfrey de Bouillon, Duke of Lorraine and Defender of the Sepulcher, he was born only to continue The Blood - an ancient line of divine kingship that goes back to Christ and Cain. A Saracen blade took his left eye and marred his face, but ambrosia from the Grail gave him everlasting life and he's lived in service to his Order. He can never atone for all he's done, but Krestien will settle for the quiet peace of eternal sleep after he secures the Adama Tablet. Samara is a woman of The Blood, the only thing for which this Templar may break his vow of chastity, but she's the first to look on Krestien's scarred face with desire. She was raised on tales of his greatness and finds him a hero in the flesh, all the more real for his demons. The Adama Tablet could make her career as an archeologist, but after she sees his suffering, Samara is determined to help Krestien find the peace he seeks.
The call of Blood to Blood is irresistible, but will it be enough to light a candle in the darkness and save them both?

    Simply Riveting!
    Any additional comments?
This is a story which brought to mind Dan Browns novel, The Da Vinci Code. It is a fascinating blend of mystery, paranormal, historical figures, biblical myths and science fiction. It had me completely enthralled.
I initially picked up this audiobook because of the narrator. She does a terrific job bringing to life every aspect of a good story. I cannot say enough about her ability to act the part, as she did impeccably in this story. Her mellow voice is very flexible and portrays emotion with perfection. In this story she used a range of nuances in dialogue: sass, humor, laughter, fear, anger, and erotic inflection . A wonderful performance, indeed.
Krestien de Godfrey is a good man full of honor, and has vowed to uphold the code of the Knights Templar. He is only what his order made him. He drank from the Grail, giving him eternal life. But he is tired. Tired of the wars he has battled in, and tired of life. The horrors of all that killing haunts him. After one thousand years of life, he now requests Lazarus to put him to rest. Lazarus has asked him to do more thing for him, for the Knights Templar. He is to protect Samara, a woman of the Blood.
Samara, an archeologist as is her father, hadnt known she was a woman of the Blood. She is very intelligent, a genius, and deep thinker. She feels one can die within, even though physically alive, when the person stops learning. She loves her work as an archeologist and aches to discover the past, but finds more than she bargains.
Her life changes when she meets Kristien. How? It becomes dangerous.

Modern day "Romeo & Juliet", werecat style
A blast from Bran's past sets Reb back on her heels when they enlist his old flame to crack their latest case, offering delightful juxtaposition to the Felis widower pawing at Reb back in "Claws Bared." Surprises abound in this "Romeo & Juliet" retelling, including the lengths to which two warring Felis clans will go to return their wayward children home.
We're treated to a view of Felis culture and clan politics from the inside, both from the point of view of the young lovers (the teen runaways, that is) and that of "Ol' Red"--a grizzled street veteran who any underestimate at their own peril (including 'Felis matron Jess after he melts her stony heart.) Reb takes the fight right back to the Pride, dropping one of the warring clans' would-be enforcers like a bad habit! She and Bran enable the teens to set right generations-old grudges and slights, paving the way for Reb and Jess to do likewise.
But before all's well can end well, Reb and Bran must defend themselves against a savage attack in their own home by one of the warring clansmen. Their love for each other (and a conveniently placed set of stairs) helps them carry the day and shout a clear message across the Ontario countryside--"we too are Pride!"
Start With First Book in the Series
Let me start by saying that I did not realize Battle Scars was part of a series when I got the book. As I was reading I though it was book 2 in the series. It was not until I was through and found the synopsis of books 1 â 3 that I realized it was book four. That explained why I was so lost during parts of the book. I strongly recommend reading the first three books first. It would even have helped if I had read the synopsis of the first three books before I started.
I will give Sheryl Nantur credit for helping readers by dropping parts of the world building and back story into the dialog. It did help and by the end of the book I had a pretty good handle on the Blood of the Pride world.
Having said that the story was intriguing enough for me to continue to read even though I was a little lost. There were some interesting features to the series. This is a book about shifters and the way they shifted was interesting. First time I had seen that. The main character, Rebecca Desjardin, is a strong female who has had to make it on her own.

    love, horses, imagination
Wow. I absolutely loved this story! I just finished it and already wish i could be immersed in the second book already.
    Great for the Car
    Any additional comments?
I enjoyed listening to this book in the car, it has a new plot twist with a world reliant on their horses to survive. There are many holes in the story but overall I enjoyed this read. The narrator does a good job differentiating between different voices. This is a fun read that I recommend if you are looking for something lite to listen to.
    For horse lovers
Lots to like about this book--well motivated romance, interesting world building, and horses. Lauren, recovering from the painful failure of her marriage is working on her brother's horse farm when a buyer from an alternate world comes looking for both a horse and rider. Lauren and her brother's prize stallion, Pindar, are just what he wants, and Lauren finds herself and the horse on a quest to find the missing horses and return them to the folks who worship them in a strange and dangerous world. The author is obviously well acquainted with horses and horse people, and her love for them comes through. James' performance is decent with a variety of voices, but her narration voice is soft, breathy, and soporific. All in all, a good start for what is likely to be a good series
