Fun Listen

I saw a lot of people raving about The Witch Hunter, so I decided to try it as an audio book to see what all the fuss was about. Set in an alternate Elizabethan era, The Witch Hunter takes place in an England-like country where witches and wizards are hunted down and killed. Elizabeths history is more complicated than just being an orphan girl recruited into witch hunting. The reason she is accused of witchcraft stems from an unwanted relationship and her attempt to protect herself, which sets a tone for her escape from a life that had become incr4easingly restrictive. Though both men and women could be witch hunters, it didnt escape me that the women were still treated as less than equal. The way Elizabeth is forced to go on the run served as a wake-up call for her and she begins to see the hypocrisy behind the cause she held so dear. Still, there is a lot of internal struggle, and Elizabeths painful realization about those she trusted gave fantastic motivation for her actions later in the book. The people who rescue her, who end up being the same people she must save, are a band of interesting characters. Her identity as witch hunter was an interesting wrench in her plan to hide out and, as you can imagine, provided a lot of conflict in the story. The setting of The Witch Hunter is filled with supernatural creatures and magic, and I found that the building of this world was quite well done.

If I could, I would give this book even more stars because I liked it a lot. There's lots of action. It's not really scary but it's exciting.

Good story, but has political spin

Where does Strike rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

It's up there...but isn't in my top 10.

I love the characters in all 3 of the Sylo books. They were complex and developed. I also really liked the plot twists.

I really didn't like how he just said that none of the business leaders were interestd in developing alternative sustainable energy because it wasn't cost effective. It implies that capitalism is incompatible with taking care of the Earth. It is a very flawed point of view. In the last 10-15 years, we've seen many entrepreneurs created businesses based on using renewable resources. From making solar panels and electric cars to making bicycles out of sustainable resources (i.e. bamboo).

Thrilling End to the Sylo Chronicles!

I always really enjoy DJ MacHale's books. Great performance by the narrator, and quite a twist for the end of the story. If you've read the other two books in the series, Sylo and Storm, then you need to read this one. If you haven't read any of DJ MacHale's other books but enjoy teen sci-fi that isn't filled with a ton of plot conveniences, his books (Sylo series or his previous Pendragon series) are worth the read/listen!

The King of Twists

I read/listened through this 3 books like it was water! Amazing storyline accompanied by a great narrator. I'm a huge fan of D.J. so my review is highly biases but even still.. I can bet you can't guess the ending of his stories and you are always up for an amazing adventure along the way. I love how we get to truly see Tucker and his friends grow as individuals and together. Its crazy to think these are some random kids who just HAPPEN to be put in these situations but.. I think thats what adds that spice. We can relate somewhat to the choices they make because. . . if that had been us. . well. . how differently would we do things. I am a huge fan of the villain as in..you can understand his view point and actions. You can question yourself as to if you were in his shoes...on his side of the playing field ... wouldn't you agree with him? (that could be just me) ANYWAYYYY An amazing trilogy again. Another fun book. Disappointing illustrations.

I was greatly disappointed in the illustrations in this book. I see that they got a new illustrator and I understand the need for him to give the characters his own touch, but they are no longer cute. Now I find them a bit creepy.

The book itself is fun. The dolls go on a big nearly unbelievable adventure. This kind of story risks coming to an unsatisfying conclusion. I feel like the authors did a good job wrapping the story up so the end made sense and was believable.

A note about the audiobook. The narrator is different than the previous three, but the new one does an awfully good job. I actually prefer her to the first narrator, whom I liked very much.

Amazing Stories

I loved the 4th in the series of Doll People, you find yourself right in the story with the dolls. Which you feel differently about your own dolls after reading this series! Smile! Working at a elementary school for years, I have read these books to many a student, and enjoyed it over and over again. Ann M. Martin is an amazing author. I love her imagination! I have given these sets as gifts to so many, and the children love them. Families would enjoy every moment reading them together with their children. I highly recommend The Doll People Stories, book 1-4!!!

My 9 year old just finished this series and loved all of the books. I read some complaints about the illustrations in this book but my daughter didn't say anything and thoroughly enjoyed the book.

Great series for boys and girls

My son was started on this series in school during 2nd grade. Near the end of third grade he is currently rereading the series. When I first bought book one of the series he didn't want anything to do with it. He thought it was for girls. After he got into it in class, he found that it was full of excitement and adventure.

Quality read for bedtime.

It is a great series that my grandchildren love to have me read to them. We read it at before bed, and it amuses them, and they have no trouble leaving the TV for bedtime.

Wonderful

I bought this book for my neice, its perfect and even I delighted in reading through some of it with her. The illustrations are absolutely amazing, I was stunned at one small part where it had such similarites to Harry Potter scene, and just seemed changed around or else that is a huge coincidence...I believe this edition was published recently for the U.S and found out that it was also published some time ago in the UK. Jill Murphy's books, newly discovered by my neice, are absolutely a treasure, I definitely recommend.

I don't like the story but it's okay still. But what I hated was this girl is supposed to be 13, yet the narrator sounds so 60! She also skipped words every once in a while. She also changed words! Wth!
