Awesome book make Guinea 4 fantastic!

Hi my name is Kayla and I'm almost finished with this book. I have one at home which is the hard cover. This book is very organized no messed up pages and so on...

As personal I had a dog but, recently passed. The book is mainly about Rufus trying to persuade dad to get a dog for him. Rufus wanted a dog because he thought having a dog would be great. Also all of his neighborhood and her had dogs. So he felt left out. So mom saw him suffer.So mom got a brand new Guinea pig for Rufus the young boy.

My son loved this book

My son loved this book. I would read a chapter to him at bedtime, I feel like Jennings the author knows what kids his age are feeling and thinking. It spoke to my son at his level. My son also has guinea pigs and was charmed by the piggie in this book.

Awesome Book

All-in-all Guinea Dog is an awesome book. It is about a young boy who really wants a dog. But, his father really, REALLY does not like dogs so the boy canât have one. One day the mom got the boy a guinea pig because she felt bad for her son. When she came home and showed her family (the boy and the father) both of them where unhappy with this compromise. Eventually, the boy finds out that he loves the guinea pig because it loves him back and will do ANYTHING to please him. All-in-all Guinea Dog is an awesome book âMorgan, 12 years old

Guinea dog is an amazing book that'll make you want to get a guinea pig. I have two guinea pigs and was thrilled to read this book. Tim Gregory does it again!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I loved The Boxcar Children growing up and even now, as an adult, I really love the series. I was thrilled to find these books narrated on Audible. Both of my sons really love this narrator specifically. Mr. Gregory does an amazing job bringing each character to life and distinguishing each of the voices. He's done such a good job that my kids now no longer want me to read to them because I don't get the voices right, lol. This narrator has many books available in other series, as well, and as a result of his amazing acting, my kids are now interesting in reading and listening to other books, too. Specifically, they've started listening to The Hardy Boys. Thank you for your hard work and dedication, Mr. Gregory. This book was really fun to listen to!

Best book I ever listened to

I loved it my favorite part was the voices in the readings I recommend!LOVE IT

Touched my heart.

A powerful story that gave me clearer insight and understanding of the civil rights movement in the 1960's. The blending of facts and historical background really helped bring the story alive. Overall it was an amazing story that had me laughing and crying plus it taught me US history (which many of the social issues then are still here today! Excellent read.

Excellent book for white teens and tweens

The multiple cast recording for this book is fantastic but I recommend getting the physical book as a companion sober it is loaded with pictures and documents.

As a teacher, I highly recommend this book as a learning opportunity for 5th-8th grade and parents should read along with their kids and help them get the most out of the experience as it will likely yield many productive questions.

I am interested to hear what persons of color may think about this book as it written by a white author and the primary character is a white girl.

Would you listen to Revolution again? Why?

This is a wonderful blend of non-fiction woven together with an historical fiction story-line. I thought I knew a lot about the Civil Rights Movement, but I knew virtually nothing about Freedom Summer in Mississippi. So educational. And moving, too.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Revolution?

The varied voices on the audiobook give this a genuine feeling, and compliments the actual text in significant ways. The two should really go together, the text version of the book has great pictures.

Which character as performed by the narrators was your favorite?

It's the combination of voices in this book that matters, not just one voice.

Special Theory of Relativity made simple!

Gedanken has a science project due for school so she goes to her Uncle Albert for help. He informs her of an experiment he has been working on and this new thing he has discovered, a thought bubble, where experiments can be conducted that can't be done on Earth. She agrees to go into the thought bubble to chase a light beam and try to catch one. She can't but they do learn a few things from her first attempt and several more attempts are made as they discover strange things with each experiment. She is finally able to complete her project which earns her a good grade.

In reality, Uncle Albert is Albert Einstein and this book is exploring his Special Theory of Relativity in an easier to understand way. I'm definitely a fan of the way it was presented and have gotten the other books in the series for my youngest although I look forward to reading them as well. A nice, gentle introduction to relativity for the young or old.

A good night relaxing story

Bought this book for my grandkids. Really great read at nap time or a good night relaxing story. The flow of the story is quite good. A good read for the adult who does not know much about black holes. It's not your standard super hero comic book, but if you read it they hear. It is surprising how much they observe and understand.

Review of The Time and Space of Uncle Albert

I read with a fourth grader. There were a few good science concepts but some seemed to go above his head. I think it is a wonderful idea but was also confused by some parts of the book.

Spark kids imaginations

I heard about this book on NPR and thoroughly enjoyed reading it at breakfast this morning. A 10 year old child and on up would thoroughly enjoy the story and tackling the concepts presented. The author was a Professor of Physics who felt kids could understand the concepts of physics if they were introduced to them in story form. Kids love a challenge and lots of them could handle this one.

Classic Story, great narration

Anne is a friend to so many of us, and kindred spirits last much longer than a single book! What a gift it is to watch Anne grow through life, learning as she goes and faithfully nurturing her imagination and her rich friendships. Reading this series is like a vacation to the seashore. I have read it many times and will read it many more.

I really appreciate hearing a Canadian narration! This feels just as it should be for a Canadian classic.

Would you consider the audio edition of Anne of Avonlea to be better than the print version?

I enjoyed the print and audio version of Anne of Avonlea equally. I do enjoy hearing the stories read allowed as they are familiar favourites and make me feel as though I am visiting friends

Who was your favorite character and why?

I like Marilla Cuthbert because she is the complete opposite of Anne but begins to take on some of Anne's wonderful personality traits.

Which character as performed by Colleen Winton was your favourite?

Colleen Winton gave voices to all the characters and I could not choose a favourite because she was a pleasure to listen to and brought life to their personalities.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Listening to Anne is a journey through an array of moments of pleasure, sorrow, laughter, tears. A tumult of emotions.

I enjoy these books so much that my dream is to travel to Canada to see where L M Montgomery wrote about Anne.

As kids books go - this a very good story

My wife and I like a good adolescent story now and then; they usually have good moral values and an entertaining story line. This story is no exception. It's gratifying to hear a story that builds character and leads you to the moral high ground. And it's especially gratifying to know that kids could pick up these values from a good story! A wonderful book for adults too

What did you like best about this story?

Awakening (Chronicles of Benjamin Dragon, #1) by C.G. Cooper is an exciting middle age kids book. I am certainly far from being a middle age kid but I thoroughly enjoyed it. A kid with that is mentally gifted and has another special gift. Bullies, but one of those is resolved in an unusual way. Suspense, fun, a camp, strange people with strange gifts too, and great fantasy. It was a fun read that didn't speak down to the reader. Great read.

Great Story. Awkward Narration.

This book is well worth the listen. It takes it's time setting up the world and gradually introduces you to the powers that Benjamin is developing. You discover along side the character. The narration wasn't awful, but I felt at many times that the reading of certain lines just left the moment awkward when it wasn't necessary.

A great book to READ

This book was quite enjoyable but the narration was very weird. Ike he word pause where there was no pause needed ,and his tone of voice made it hard sometimes to understand what he really meant in that moment.

great kids story, poor performance.

I almost stopped listening in the first chapter due to poor narration. but the story seemed to be interesting enough that I finished the book. my kids will enjoy this series.

The narrator needs to learn where to take breaths. His poor narration grayed on me throughout the book. things like:

It........... was his turn to play.

or

He........... hadn't done that...... in years.

He kept adding long pauses where they should not have been. Sometimes it confused me what was being said until the pause ended and the rest of the sentence was read.

And he would emphasize words that almost changed the meaning. There were times he sounded like he was asking a question when it was not.

His voice is pleasant enough, but he really needs to read like people talk and remove the incorrect pauses.

Poor narration

Very disappointed with narration. I ended up reading to my son. Narrator was too slow, dragged the book and didn't change his tone.

Great historical fiction

What did you like best about this story?

Avi does a wonderful job of setting the historical scene. He always gives my children a sense of time and place in his descriptions of the buildings, landscape, clothing, etc... It's a great way to connect to the past without feeling like you're getting "schooled".

What does Chris Sorensen bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Chris Sorensen provides a wonderful New York accent - and attitude - when narrating this story. My children like how he draws us into the story.

Any additional comments?

Avi is one of our favorite authors for children's literature. He doesn't use dumbed down language and his characters are always fleshed out well. He doesn't shy away from difficult issues or death. When a beloved character does die, my children feel the loss!

This was a fantastic adventure by the always entertaining, Avi. We all enjoyed listening to this book and it had our whole family captivated.

Good, but not for young children

What would have made Ludwig van Beethoven better?

I can't really speak to this generally, because this was actually a good work, but my daughter loves stories of composers, but is too young to be hearing about suicidal ideation in such blunt terms, along with alcoholism, etc.... that is part of the content in this story. (More on this in my "additional comments.)

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Horrible ending for children to hear. I won't provide a spoiler, but I'll just say that the inclusion of the raging anger in a particularly significant life moment is not something I'll allow my child to hear again. (I actually recall a pastor referencing this moment, once.)

Have you listened to any of Daniel Philpotts other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not heard his other performances, but this one was very good, so will search for his others.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

The story felt a bit heavy on facts, a bit low on interior life. It was could have been fleshed out better. I won't play the story again for my young daughter as there was a lot of depressing drama focused on (and multiple references to his suicidal ideations mentioned in a glib/offhand way that is not appropriate for younger ages, nor placed in a context that makes it redeeming for kids to hear about).

Any additional comments?

I appreciate being able to provide a review for Audible, though I wish it also included more of what Common Sense Media offers regarding an age-appropriateness rating. I also would love for there to be more specificity about content and in categories. It's so surprising that an offering of Amazon's (which has such a powerfully robust "suggestions" tool) is so clunky in this regard. It's difficult to search for books at the level of Amazon's book selections allow.
