    Narrator: Richard Di Britannia
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 10 hrs and 37 mins

    Publisher's Summary:
Sherlock Holmes lamented, "I fear that retirement will elude me." It surely does in this five-story chronicle.
The saga begins with The Bonnie Bag of Bones that lead the infamous duo on a not-so-merry chase into the mythical mountains of Scotland and ultimately to the "the woman" who is tangled within a mystery that has haunted Holmes for a quarter century.
Curse of the Black Feather continues the adventure in which Holmes teams up with the Irregulars and a gypsy matriarch, to expose a diabolical "baby-farming" enterprise. Their quest arouses a vicious adversary, Ciaran Malastier, who has Holmes struggling for his very life.
Maestro of Mysteries begins with a summons to Mycroft's office and ends with a deadly chase in Undertown, far beneath the streets of London. Malastier escapes, but only into the next adventure.
The Cure that Kills sees Holmes and Watson in hot pursuit of Ciaran Malastier, racing across America and pitting them against the largest detective organization in the world.
In the final story, The Kongo Nkis Spirit Train, Holmes and Watson travel to the Dark Continent to derail a "spirit train" that ensnares people's spirit, and enslaves their bodies. In the end, this historically accurate chronicle sheds new light on greatest mystery of all, Sherlock Holmes himself.

    The Real Sherlock Holmes
What made the experience of listening to Sherlock Holmes the Golden Years the most enjoyable?
The added dimension of Sherlock Holmes as a mature person, later in his life, and the experiences that made him seem more fully human.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I can't choose, Holmes, Dr Watson, Irene Adler...
    Which scene was your favorite?
    I can't say!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, I wanted to, but I kept falling asleep as I usually listen to my audiobooks at bed time. So I kept starting it over and finally got through it in 2 days time.
    Any additional comments?
There is so much I could say but I don't like to give spoilers for the simple reason that I don't want to color anyone's experience or the impact of hearing the story first hand.
I can tell you that for me, Kim H. Krisco made Holmes come alive in a very real sense for me. I had always seen him as larger than life, and beyond the mere failings of those of us with feet of clay. Holmes has always been portrayed as so intelligent, yet without real depth of emotion, very shut off from his feelings.
For me Kim H Krisco brought Holmes to life in a very real way.
    worst narrator ever
I am not sure I can get through this entire book. The narrator is so bad. the accents 4 Holmes and Watson change from English to Scottish and back. and every other character speaks with the same hesitation after each word. the only difference between the characters is the men have lower voice and the women have a little higher voice. it's extremely frustrating. the Cadence is the same. The only time Holmes and Watson sound correctly is when the narrator speeds up
Would make a decent children's cartoon
This is one of the weaker Holmes efforts . Dont bother the writing lacks all mystery and used all the easiest Holmes cliches.

WE ARE SO ACCUSTOMED TO HIS SUCCESSES, HOWEVER..
    Any additional comments?
Everything contributed to the success of this production: the theme music was somber, but active and moving, creating interest, even intrigue; the sound effects very good; the writing creatively contiguous, while the story wove together and back on itself, the acting excellent. However, I was not prepared for the intense sadness I would feel. Didn't Holmes admit his imperfections in cases unsolved? Yes, but the authors here make us understand in our gut, the consequences as Dr. Watson never before wrote to those with whom Holmes interacted, and
with those whom he was trying to save. The good, often costly, still seemed to outweigh the
    bad, until now.
It appears to be a series of unrelated stories, starting very interestingly with Dr. Watson in Afghanistan, trying to save a British citizen or officer sequestered amoung some natives. It is really too late, especially without proper medicines, but seems to end well, with Dr. Watson's life unimperiled, and only a small package to deliver somewhere in London upon his return. The next story, again, seemingly unrelated, is soon revealed to be absolutely, but somewhat mysteriously
connected; and so, too with the next stories.
My recommendation would be to listen to less than the whole train of tales at once. As before mentioned, I became so sad at Holmes' remorse, and truly humble admittance of misjudgment to
the man he would have aided, I cried myself. Same with the next story. If you can remain blythe in the face of such pain, then you may want to finish it all the way through.

Title: The Mammoth Book of the Adventures of Moriarty
Subtitle: The Secret Life of Sherlock Holmes's Nemesis - 37 short stories
    Author: Maxim Jakubowski
    Narrator: Toby Longworth
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 20 hrs and 42 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-15-15
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 21 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Classic Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
We think of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, but far more seductive is the pairing of Holmes and Professor James Moriarty, 'the Napoleon of crime' - a rivalry unparalleled in the world of crime fiction. Fiercely intelligent and a relentless schemer, Moriarty is the supervillain as megastar.
This wonderfully diverse collection by writers such as Martin Edwards, Jürgen Ehlers, Barbara Nadel, L. C. Tyler, Michael Gregorio, Alison Joseph and Peter Guttridge reveals not just the evil side of Moriarty's personality but his humanity, his motivations and his human failings. Some of the stories are humorous, some scary, but all are hugely entertaining.
Maxim Jakubowski is a London-based novelist and editor. He was born in the UK and educated in France. Following a career in book publishing, he opened the world-famous Murder One bookshop in London in 1988. He compiles two acclaimed annual series for the Mammoth list: Best New Erotica and Best British Crime. He is a winner of the Anthony and the Karel Awards, a frequent TV and radio broadcaster, crime columnist for the Guardian newspaper and literary director of London's Crime Scene Festival.

    Honestly, not that great...
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I won't be recommending this book to anyone I know. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love The Sherlock universe and I think Moriarty is one of literature's best antagonists. That being said, if you're like me, you might not like this book either.
One problem is that most of the authors write about the reichenbach falls, which means most of the stories contradict themselves in one way or another. Some stories he dies, some he lives, some he intends to go over, some he barely escapes with his life.
Next, some stories completely break from the genre. I really wasn't interested in hearing about Moriarty fighting an alien invasion or planning a caper with woodland creatures.
So if you buy this book, I hope you know what you're getting into, because I did not, and that's why I eventually had to return it.
    More hits than misses
As this is an anthology book some stories work better than others. That said, this anthology of Professor Moriarty stories is at its worst mildly entertaining and at its best truly fun and utterly original. Different aspects of Moriarty like the finer points of his criminal empire, his true feelings about his nemesis, and why he is the way he is are explored. While I consider Kim Newmans Moriarty novel THE definitive Moriarty novel (outside the Arthur Conan Doyle canon), this is a close second. I love a good villain, and there are few villains better than Moriarty so if you appreciate literary villainy and seeing your favorite characters outside their usual environment definitely give it a look.
I am a fan of the Napoleon of Crime
Some very clever stories in this collection and only one that i did not enjoy. Chilling perfect murders, interesting puzzles and surprising twists. Great to re imagine this villain and the reading is entertaining and easy to listen to.
    Really well read.
I'm half way through this book of short stories. The initial ones I've listened to are good.

    Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 23 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Classic Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
The best of the golden age crime writers, praised by all the top modern writers in the field including P. D. James and Ruth Rendell, Dorothy L. Sayers created the immortal Lord Peter Wimsey. The twelfth book featuring Lord Peter (the third novel to feature Harriet Vane) is set in an Oxford women's college.
Harriet Vane has never dared to return to her old Oxford college. Now, despite her scandalous life, she has been summoned back....
At first she thinks her worst fears have been fulfilled, as she encounters obscene graffiti, poison pen letters, and a disgusting effigy when she arrives at sedate Shrewsbury College for the Gaudy celebrations.
But soon Harriet realises she is not the only target of this murderous malice - and asks Lord Peter Wimsey to help.
    Critic Reviews:
"I admire her novels...she has great fertility of invention, ingenuity and a wonderful eye for detail." (P. D. James)
    Members Reviews:
    Gaudy Night
I've adored this novel for 20 years. This reading of it made me dislike Harriet and Peter.
Run to the end of the story
jane Sayers reads too quickly which detracts readers attention. Story is weakened significantly as a result
a murder of a lovely book by narration
This is such a beautiful text, full of humor, intelligence, period details and the loveliness of Oxford. And it was brutally murdered by a shrill, humorless, staccato narration. Nothing in the world could make me dislike the heroes and the book itself, but I have to say money was wasted on this production.
Jane McDowell did a very unpleasant narration: humorless, tactless and slap-dash.
As she already did all of the books, there is obviously no chance of another try in the nearest future with a different narrator. Such a pity.
Miss Sayers at her best - shame the narration wasn't that great
I have waited a long time for this book to be released I audio for at. In my humble opinion this is Miss Sayers at her very best. By why oh why didn't the get Edward Petherbridge for the narration. This is why I have marked down the performance.
A lamentable narrator and badly produced
Stilted! She stops halfway through speeches to take a breath where nobody would. Reads like an amateur. However, I did feel that some editing, or production, might have spared us the howlers and mispronunciations. Plus not knowing how Oxford names should be spoken. 'Saint Aldgates' indeed. And 'Dives' pronounced like seedy nightspots. it should be 'DivES, with the E pronounced. I stuck with it, because I like the story, but this is the second of the new series of Lord Peter books I have been disappointed by and I shan't get any more. I and Ms Sayers deserve better than this. Thank heavens I have all the Ian Carmichael recordings.

    Résumé de l'éditeur:
Septembre 1994.

    Release date: 04-02-15
    Publisher: Faber & Faber
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 2 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Classic Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
An Adam Dalgliesh mystery. Cover Her Face is P. D. James' debut novel, the first Adam Dalgliesh mystery, and a thrilling work of crime fiction set in the English countryside, from the best-selling author of Death Comes to Pemberley and Children of Men.
From P. D. James, one of the masters of British crime fiction, comes the debut novel that introduced Scotland Yard detective Adam Dalgliesh. Set against the English countryside, Cover Her Face is a classic murder mystery filled with James' trademark plot twists, intrigue, and suspense.
Though the Martingale manor house has hosted the annual St Cedd's Church fête for generations, this year feels different. On top of organizing stalls and presiding over luncheon, the bishop, and the tea tent, Mrs Eleanor Maxie now also has to contend with the news of her son's sudden engagement to the new parlour maid, the sly and sensuous single mother Sally Jupp.
Sally has quite a reputation as a ruthless social climber, and no one at Martingale seems too happy about the engagement. But the Maxie family barely has time to contend with her wily ways - on the following morning the whole village is shocked by the discovery of Sally Jupp's body.
Investigating the violent death at the manor house, Detective Chief Inspector Adam Dalgliesh becomes embroiled in the complicated passions beneath the calm surface of English village life.
In Cover Her Face, award-winning P. D. James meticulously plots a complex story of family secrets and suspicion. The book was later adapted into a TV miniseries starring Roy Marsden as the inspector protagonist.
Meet the dark and brooding Dalgliesh - a gentleman, a poet, and a gifted detective - and listen to the novel that launched P. D. James' career as the world's preeminent crime writer.
    P. D. James (1920-2014) was a bestselling and internationally acclaimed crime writer. She was the creator of Adam Dalgliesh and Cordelia Gray, and their long and successful series of mysteries. Her works include Cover Her Face (1962), An Unsuitable Job for a Woman (1972), Innocent Blood (1980), Children of Men (1992), and the Jane Austen-inspired Death Comes to Pemberley (2011). James was born in Oxford in 1920. She won awards for crime writing in Britain, America, Italy and Scandinavia, including the Mystery Writers of America Grandmaster Award. She received honorary degrees from seven British universities, was awarded an OBE in 1983 and created a life peer in 1991. In 1997 she was elected President of the Society of Authors, and stood down from this role in 2013.
    Critic Reviews:
"A classic story of English rural murder." (The Times)
"The greatest contemporary writer of classic crime." (Sunday Times)
"There are very few thriller writers who can compete with P.D. James at her best." (Spectator)

    P D James - Excellent as always.
An excellent crime story as we have come to expect from the Queen of crime novels. The twists and turns, the red herrings and the clever storyline narrated brilliantly by Daniel Weyman , with his clever voice changes for either sex made it clearly outline who was who. Want to see if there is a DVD of this story, as it was so captivating.
    A good crime story
The writing style is exquisite and the narrator Daniel Weyman is very pleasant to listen to.
