    Excellent, except...
I love Sherlock Holmes and all of the stories. I adore Simon Vance as the performer. I have only two issues with this particular Sherlock Holmes series: first, the photo of the BBC TV show Sherlock on the cover is misleading. For whatever reason, you cant listen to a sample even now in November, because the sample states that its unable to let you listen before the book release in March 2017. It is now November 2017; still no sample. Back to why its misleading: the photo implies that its going to have anything to do with the BBC TV show, but it does not. It is my favorite performer, Simon Vance, narrating the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes stories. The only problem with this is the other issue: if you have already purchased all of the Sherlock Holmes books then this is a duplicate. It is not the complete works, but a compilation of the original stories. Its not the books fault, its not the storys fault, its not the performers fault. If I had to blame anything: it would only be the fact that you cant listen to a sample to know what youre really getting, and any other sherlockian picture should have been used if this wasnt a performance of the bbc Sherlock.
    Excellent
A interesting and exciting collection of Holme's stories read well by one of the modern Sherlock TV drama series creator's with introductions to each story and why they are in the collection..
    Reader sounded too fast
I love all Sherlock Holmes stories but for some reason, even though I played this at X1 the reader sounded slightly too fast to me and it spoilt my enjoyment. It has a slightly electronic feel about the voice. I love the Mark Gatiss introductions though. It's a shame he didn't read the stories!
    Sherlock still Amazes
    Really enjoyed the whole experience.
Having Mark Gatiss introduce each story certainly made it more entertaining due to his love of the works.
    Narrator was also very good.

    Love these books
I enjoy the character very much and although the previous books were enjoyable their conclusions were too easy to pick out. Again, good stories. This one had so much going on, itâs a cliche but I truly laughed and cried. The ending was a good twist that left you guessing. Well worth the read.
    HUGE Disappointment
I have been addicted to the Dick Hardesty series from the first page of the first book. I have purchased all of the series and have truly enjoyed every page...until now.
I am so disappointed in the direction the author is taking his characters. He has, in my opinion, turned this amazing, cutting edge mystery series into a gay cozy mystery. And as with all of the cozies I have read, the character turns into an addle brained bunch of mush...to me, this is what is happening to Dick. He now is a "family man", and though he knows he has obligations to his family, he still jumps right out there to put himself in situations he shouldn't be in. I fear that in future volumes we will lose touch with all of the colorful and interesting characters that are part of Jonathon and Dicks lives. By nature, they will have less and less in common with these characters, and they will fade into the background.
This book is very well written, and the characters are well done, but this direction is just not for me. I will not be reading the rest of the series. This saddens me, but I will not waste my time reading novels that leave me annoyed and unsatisfied.
Fortunately, I have just discovered Josh Lanyon's Adrien English series so my evenings are once again spent with characters I can enjoy and feel good about "knowing".
I'm sorry Mr. Grey, but our relationship has ended.
    My intro to the series
I was given The Popsicle Tree as a gift, although the fact that I like posicles has nothing to do with the story! That fortuitous serendipity introduced me to the Dick Hardesty series. What a treat - a well plotted mystery, a whodunit with enough clues to keep you guessing, interwoven with what at first seem to be extraneous story lines which comment upon and give greater depth to the main plot line. Solid characters, not stock figures. Most importantly, the main character - the author's voice - is more than likeable, and is allowed to grow. And tells the story as if he's a good friend, just catching yo up on old times. Now I have to start at the beginning of the series (I already have.)
    The Glass Mirror
If you are into murder mysteries, you HAVE to read these excellent books. I was hooked from the first chapter. Dorien Grey's characters have depth, humor, and LOTS of sex appeal!! Whether you are gay or straight, these are a fantastic read!!!!!
    Five Stars
Good read excellent mystery great author

    Publisher: A.R.N. Publications
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 13 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Classic Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
This collection of 12 short stories is part of the Father Brown series, about a mystery-solving Catholic priest. In a refreshing contrast with the deductive detective Sherlock Holmes, Father Brown works intuitively. Through many years of hearing confessions, he has developed an uncanny ability to see inside the minds of criminals. Although he appears unobtrusive and dowdy, with a face "as round and dull as a Norfolk dumpling", he is also surprisingly worldly for a priest.
Set in rural England in the early 20th century, these vivid and original stories range from kidnappings, to escaped prisoners, stolen condiments, stabbings, a dead prince, confessions, a mysterious burning tower, and even a purple wig.

    A poor performance
The Gordon Griffin performance of the Innocence of Father Brown is far superior. This reader has a curious, exagerated style which is off putting

Meanwhile a retired vice admiral is found slain in his locked quarters leaving Holmes to solve a classic puzzle of not only "who" but also "how". And finally, when bodies begin surfacing all over London with their blood completely drained, the famous consulting detective and his loyal assistant face the possibility that a legendary monster is roaming the fog-shrouded streets of their beloved London. Writers I.A. Watson, Raymond Lovato, and Aaron Smith put forth a trio of classic Conan Doyle-like mysteries pitting the great detective against the most menacing of evils both modern and ancient. More from Airship 27!
Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective Volume 8 by IA Watson, Aaron Smith, and Raymond Lovato
The latest volume of this continuing series from Airship 27 features three novellas of Sherlock Holmes by modern pulp authors. In these stories, Holmes is up against seemingly impossible cases. There is a hint of the uncanny, perhaps the supernatural. But Holmes stands firm on scienceâno ghosts need apply!
âMysteries of the Buried Godâ by IA Watson
Excavations beneath the small, obscure church of St. Edith-in the-field in a bystreet off of Fleet Street, London have disclosed a hidden crypt. Inside is the long dead body of a man. Seated upon a stone chair, his remains are shackled to the massive rock. There is a sword driven through the remains.
The problem is that the crypt was sealed from the inside. As there seems to be no exit, how was this accomplished? The crypt appears to show signs of being a temple to Mithris, one of several that would prove to be discovered in the future. Add this to the fact that the Professor in charge of the dig has gone missing, and you have a case for Sherlock Holmes.
I found the story well written and interesting. I give it four stars.
âThe Adventure of the Charwick Ghostâ by Raymond Lovato
Inspector Lestrade brings this case to 221B. Vice Admiral Charwick is discovered murdered inside his locked study. There is no apparent way that an intruder could get in as the study is on the upper floor. A window is found unlatched, but there are no marks of a ladder being used, and the length required would be very heavy to carry.
There are tales of a family curse and legendâThe Charwick Ghost. Holmes refuses to believe in the supernatural, and seeks a more mundane answer. There is the ner-do-well nephew who turns up at once looking for an inheritance to pay off his gambling debts. There is also a group of Gypsies that were thrown of the property by the Police recently. And there is the tale of a young Gypsy boy who saw fairies and a giant with disappearing horses coming through the woodsâ
The story moves at break-neck pace and is really quite good. I give it four stars.
âThe Adventure of the Vampireâs Vengeanceâ by Aaron Smith
Inspector Gregson brings this case to Sherlock Holmes.

    Great
A classic whodunnit which twists its way to a satisfying conclusion. The world of Crofts' 1920's Scotland Yard and its Inspector French may not be real but the puzzling tale is so good that any disbelief is easily suspended.
great fun, lots of twists and turns
What made the experience of listening to Inspector French and the Starvel Hollow Tragedy the most enjoyable?
lovely old fashioned puzzle detective story, setting several red herrings along the way. The denouement was not a surprise, but still a very jolly listen, and devoid of any gruesome post mortem details that one finds in many contemporary crime novels.
What other book might you compare Inspector French and the Starvel Hollow Tragedy to, and why?
Any one who likes Golden Age of Detective novels will probably enjoy this
