Great Spy Yarn

The Last Spymaster is an excellent book especially for those who like reading books dealing with spies. I have never read a Gayle Lynds`s book. I hope the others are just as good as this one because I will start reading them.

A super spy and so-called traitor escapes from prison. Against the odds he avoids multiple traps where people are trying to kill him. During this exciting book he joins up with a CIA hunter who has been assigned to find him. The spymaster also reunites with a former lover from Germany. Together they struggle to uncover and destroy a vicious plot to harm our country. There is lots of action. You can`t get bored reading this book.

Hope the author brings back this character for another story. I sure enjoyed this one.

Excellent read!

This was my first Gayle Lynds novel and I probably went through it too quickly... but I simply could not slow down. The action was non-stop with twists and turns necessary in a top notch spy thriller. The characters were believable and the details were spot on. I will read more of Ms Lynds writings and have already recommended this one to several like minded friends.

Moles and misdirection

I am so happy to have found Gayle Lynds espionage stories. Her characters are interesting and well developed, the technology realistic and current. Interesting stories that ring true.

Great Read

Just a great read.....very well written.....great characters

The Last Spymaster - A Great Read

Gayle Lynds ranks I my top three favourite authors in the spy/espionage/mystery genre. She novels are fast-paced with intriguing characters and story lines. She is an excellent researcher who creates interesting stories.

Seymour at his best,a well developed plot, characters entirely believable. and enertaining from start to finish. I can't remember reading this author and having been bored, again Seymour at his best

An evocative yet sad tale of sacrifice

Very much recommend. Seymour's characters feel real and are inbuilt with the complexities, vices, emotion and doubts that drive and cripple us. It's not that the story has twists and turns that makes it so interesting. You feel with the characters at every step and just have to keep listening.

Slow burner but leads to almost unbearable tension

Be patient with this book-it is a slow burner but well worth it. The second half is almost unbearably tense. So much so that I found myself chewing my lip with anxiety as I listened. As with all the Gerald Seymour books I've listened to, his characters are so well-rounded that it's impossible not to empathise with them all - even a bomb-maker, for goodness sake. His research and understanding of his subject is as always, impeccable. I highly recommend this, especially for anyone who's ever wondered about what it's really like to be a covert operative.

Oh so boring

Well narrated, but so slow, it started to pick towards the end but by that time I'd given up...

Excellent!

This kept me hooked throughout. The conflict between the two main protagonists was so well written.

A bit outdated, but a good listen on the road

I am glad that Audible has added John Gardner's James Bond novels to its collection. I've read these when I was in high school and enjoyed it very much. The voice artist is doing a splendid job of bringing James Bond alive. Yet this is the Bond of the Cold War, a bit dated with his technology. Gardner also tells a story that is most often quite predictable. Yet, if you are looking for action, some suspense and a not-too-in-depth listen with an old-time favourite as the hero, this is a good listen. It comes highly recommended to hardcore 007 fans.

Oh oh 7

Very entertaining and continues the James (007) Bond legacy. Took me back to the sixties and the height of the films.

Okay

It was well narrated but it felt like I've heard a lot of it before and knew pretty quickly who Blofeld was.

Only read as part of the whole bond series

One to miss if not. It just doesn't work as a story. To much name dropping not enough story.

Spoiler alert. This may spoil the upcoming oboe SPECTRE

Usual good fun. A bit predictable. Ultimately satisfying. Give it a go. The narrator does a good job

Redaktionelle Rezensionen:

In "Gnadenlos" gibt uns Erfolgsautor Tom Clancy einen Einblick in die Lebensgeschichte des geheimnisumwobenen John Clark, Anführer der Spezialeinheit "Rainbow Six". Clark alias John Kelly erlebt in seiner Vergangenheit mehrere traumatisierende Schicksalsschläge.

Love, deceit, a false marriage and a ruined life

I've never been into spy dramas, but this engrossed my attention. For an agent, it is his mission to seduce a young lady in order to obtain information, for the lady the affair ends in a disaster and shattered dreams.

The romeo spy drama is titled Blue Wonder, which is the name of the bridge crossing the Elbe. In German the idiom ein blaues Wunder erleben means to experience a nasty surprise, and that, ironically, can account for what the female protagonist felt when she learned the truth.

Excellent performance. Intriguing and upbeat story. Well done.

Gripping drama

This is a fantastic drama and I would highly recommend a listen. I knew nothing about 'Romeo spies' before listening to this audiobook so was really interested in this aspect of it. It's an amazing, gripping drama, beautifully acted by Clare Corbett and Jamie Glover, who are both radio drama regulars.

Title: Theremin (BBC Radio 4: Saturday Play)

Language: English

Publisher: BBC Worldwide Limited

Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 3 votes

Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Espionage

Publisher's Summary:

A BBC Radio 4 fictional dramatization of Léon Theremins espionage work in the lead up to the Cold War, written by Melissa Murray. Theremin was originally broadcast as the Saturday Play on 3 January 2009 and repeated on 9 October 2010.

Léon Theremin, gifted inventor and reluctant spy, is forced to find a way to bug the US Embassy in London. Now he has to save himself and his former lover from both the CIA and the KGB.

Starring Tom Hollander as Theremin and Kate Ashfield as Alex. Also featured in the cast are Ania Sowinski, Trystan Gravelle, Stephen Critchlow, Malcolm Tierney, Janice Acquah, Jonathan Tafler, Chris Pavlo, and Dan Starkey. Directed by Marc Beeby.

Members Reviews:

An imaginary story of a Russian inventor & spy

This dramatization is loosely based on the life of the Soviet scientist Lev Theremin. He was the inventor of the first electronic musical instrument that bears his name. His "electronic synthesizer" caused quite a sensation all over the world. Theremin createdthe Rhythmicon- the first electronic drum machine, the theremin cello and terpsitone.

As for the story, it is fictitious. Theremin wasn't kidnapped by the NKVD. He flew back to the USSR from New York, where he'd fallen in love and married an African American ballet dancer.

But back in the USSR, Theremin was imprisoned and sent to a labour camp where he ... designed eavesdropping devices, one of the most notorious was the Great Seal bug. The 'present' had hung in the U.S. ambassador's study for years before the concealed bug was discovered.

Leo Theremin, or Lev Termen in Russian, was a genius, but sadly little is known about him. There is a documentary directed by S. Martin, which is too inaccurate to refer to, and a brilliant book by A. Glinsky that I can recommend.

The performance was rather laid-back. T. Hollander as Theremin seemed distant and even dismissive at times, in stark contrast to the passionate and sympathetic Anna(Kate Ashfield). It's their relationship that intrigued me. Psychologically, it's a curious play, but do not expect any action.

All in all, I'd say I enjoyed this spy drama.
