Publisher's Summary:
Everyone wants justice.
That's what Assistant DA Lulu Lightly tells me. "Cathedral City needs you to set things right," she says. "To rid this place of corruption, once and for all."
I'd like to rid Lulu Lightly of her clothes. And maybe her moral superiority. But mostly her clothes.
"I want you to fight the good fight with me," she says.
Hell, yeah. I'm always up for a fight.
"We should stand up and be the voice of the people," she says.
Sure, I hear voices. Sometimes I even listen to them.
"Figure out what's good for the City and put it first," she says.
Oh, honey...what's good for the City is bad for the people. Trust me, I know. I'm Case Reider - insane Alpha, nefarious inventor, and I understand this town better than anyone.
Cathedral City needs me all right. Just not the way you think. I'm not the justice you're looking for, Lulu Lightly. I'm still the same villain you left behind.
Only now...there's something very, very wrong with me.

A MARVEL TYPE SUPER-HERO STORY... JA HUSS STYLE
Ironman's got Pepper Potts.. Superman's got Lois Lane.. Lincoln Wade (from book 1) has Molly Masters and now, in this second book from Cathedral City, Case Reider has Lulu Lightly. JA Huss totally manages to capture the 'comic book' action hero vibe really well with this unique new story that was well narrated as Case secretly battles what's been happening inside him and changing him. It was after he got injured in the Alpha's rooftop fight with the Blue Corp and the Blue Boar that ended the previous book. Lulu and Case have history together and, from the moment they meet again, that history will be repeated as they become lovers again.. but both are holding back secrets.. and very different agendas.
Lulu Lightly is Assistant D.A. and Case, along with Lincoln and Thomas, are number one suspects for the $millions that have been hacked and stolen from Cathedral City's Banks - but shush.. because the three Super-Alphas are innocent and they're desperately looking for answers too. However, before anyone can gather the evidence and point a finger, everything goes to Hell.. because whatever's been subtly and secretively changing Cole has finally finished.. his transformation is complete.. and it's epic.. with epic drama-filled consequences.
I enjoyed this entertaining listen and JA Huss' unpredictable dual POV plot, masterful world-building and creative imagery is awesome - she's succeeded at capturing the Gotham City feel with one of its super/anti-heroes being used and ultimately falling victim to the faceless super-villain. It was fast paced - with sex, building tension, danger, suspense, romance, nanobots, super-computer hologram Assistants and deadly drama. There's the underlying continuation of the Alpha's revenge plans for Prodigy - the corrupt powerful organisation who stole, bought and bred children like them to be brainwashed, changed and used. In the next book Thomas will meet his heroine Sadie Scott - and let's hope they get revenge and dish out justice.. Super-Alpha style.
Worth a credit? If you like a fantastical super-hero type listen then you'll surely love this - sadly, I can't say I loved every minute of it - and that's not a criticism of the book in any way shape or form because it WAS good.
