I found the first book as a choose your own adventure style story on my the Google play store and I really enjoyed the story and wanted to see where it went. so when I found out audible had the second book in the series I was excited. until I bought it that is. the narrator is terrible and it really brings the story down and makes me wish I saved my credit and bought the ebook instead.

This book was badass, as are the rest in the series . The magic system is great and the battle detail is staggering compared to others in this genre.

Good continuation of the Red knight story.

in the main a good continuation of the Red knights tale. there are some boring sections but all together it's a good story with pace and the usual mix of fantasy and history. it doea end in a bit if an odd place.

Great gritty narration Oliver has become one of my favourite narrator's with Steven Pacey. Brilliant characters I think Marc Turner has replaced Stephen Erickson who seems to have lost his focus on what made him so good with his first half dozen books.

unique and wonderfull

This fantasy book had a medieval and tribal feel to me, reminding me a little of Robert Jordans the wheel of time series. The characters are so alive you cant help but feel with them and for them.

This wonderful book is one of those story's that you start and then cant put down. I listened to it all now please tell me book 2 is coming out soon?

I was giving this book for free in exchange for an unbiased review, and honestly I would have written one anyway had I bought it. This is one of those books where you just want to tell your friends to read it or to just tell them the story. Thank you so much Amanda, please keep adding to this saga.

Not my cup of tea....

I really tried to like this book. I really did. The basic story line was ok for me: sons/daughters of one god fighting to keep their place against the son of another god.

But....For me, the story was a bit too twisted for me to be able to enjoy. I felt that many of the things that happened in this book were put there purely for a shock factor, but they diminished the story overall in my opinion.

I also didn't care for the huge gaps in gender equality. I understand this is a fantasy that is placed in another world; however, it felt overdone.

Honestly this isn't a book/series that I really wish to continue. The story breaks on a cliffhanger, but I have no desire to continue on with the story.

A great start but I hate cliffhangers

Yes a cliffy can't stand them. The story is reminiscent of Terry Goodkind's sword of truth and Jordan's wheel series. Wonderful beginning.

Spoiler alert and a warning normally I hate spoilers and won't include any but a major part of the plot has the rape of a 16 year old girl by her half brother, it's not graphic but it's there. So its a little squicky.

The narration is a little lackluster though, I almost quit but the story kept me listening. There is so much going on from several point of views that it would have been better to have a different narrator for each main povs.

I Was Surprised

I got this book via audiobook boom. To say I was surprised that I liked it is surprising in itself. I loved it from the beginning even though I had to sift through some of the different points of view.

Surprised

I am the single biggest Malazan fan ever. I love Erikson much. And the thing that blew my mind is while listening to this book, at many points I actually forgot this ISN'T an Erikson book. It seems like ICE has improved and his writing is becoming more refined. I enjoyed this story and Darujhistan isn't my favorite place...

Another home run

I again am astounded at the synergy between the two authors of the Malazan world. the characters are almost seamlessly incorporated into every story. I can't wait for the next book.

A Desert Burns

Wow!!! This was an excellent ending to an excellent series. This book had me captivated from start to finish, and unfortunately it had to end. Solina is truly insane, but at times I did feel sorry for her, Elethor truly becomes a King worth serving and Lyana is a woman every man would be lucky to have at his side. I love the how Daniel Arenson always has a sick twisted evil monsters in his stories and this series was no exception, the Nephilim are some of the most disgusting horrible abominations that you could ever imagine, and I cant wait to see what he comes up with next. To all that have read and loved the other two books in this series, then what are you waiting for? Buy this book. If you have not read any of these books than you are missing out on a great series. Enjoy.

Pretty good finish

Okay, so I will repent from my book one review which said that the series was a little immature to me due to it's predictability. I still feel like I knew how it would end to a point, but I did become somewhat attached to the characters and the world in which they live. The ending was a bit typical of the genre and in some cases a little too neat and tidy;however, it was satisfactory in the main. It would be interesting to hear more of the rest of this world. Unsure if I will delve any further in this realm, but it is not a bad world to visit.

Good, but not great.

I read the previous installment a song of dragons from the land of Requim and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This series however felt a bit contrived. I continued reading with a sense of morbid fascination because I hate not knowing the end of a series. After book 2 however I was ready to call it quits. I will be hard pressed to buy the next installment. My feeling is that the writer will become more creative with his abominations and revert to blood, gore and more unnecessarily violent and heart wrenching deaths of favored characters. Thanks Daniel for Gloria, Keiri and Agnus Day. My journey into the heart of Requim ends with this series.

This is a beautiful story. It is filled with tragedy, love, war, pain, and passion. All the elements come together to give you a heartbreaking and wonderful experience. You will have a hard time putting these books down.

Looking forward to book 2

The dark levy is a great fantasy with giants, dragons, gods and gorgons but at its base is an age old story line of how the weak become the strong through a gift/ability and those thought to be untouchable are less so.

There are many satisfying twists and turns but I have to admit I hated the ending of this story. It literally feels like the Author just picked a point half heatedly in a large book and said this will be book one and this will be book 2.

Otherwise this was a great book.

Amazing Dark Fantasy

This is a truly original Dark Fantasy, mixing mythologywith an original tale that brings you engaging characters, both good and not so good, great worldbuilding and a fast paced plot that keeps you on your toes. Kristin James, who I had never heard prwviously, does an outstanding job bringing the story to life.

A Very Dark Fantasy

Shannon has special powers that everyone wants to use for their own agenda. She and Dana are very weak to start out but they get stronger through knowledge, fighting and strategy. The book ends abruptly so I guess that means there will be a book 2. it would be nice if it at least ended at a point that seemed to be an ending. But what do I know. I read books, I love fantasy books. Oh well. I was given this book in exchange for an unbiased review via audiobook boom. Book 2 perhaps will be the conclusion. This one was very long to leave me hanging. I don't care for books like that. I like series books but each one should end as a whole book even if it will continue the story in the next book. But as I said I just read books and have been since I was four years old. Several librarians know me personally and I have more than 4500 books on my kindle app and more than 300 in my audible account. This has been my passion since I retired and I don't see it slowing down.

Like forgotten realms from the view of an Orc

The story was great. Dungeons and dragons style story from the view of the orcs. Loved it. I had heard another novel by Mather that was a children's/young adult. Epic Fantasy from an Orc perspective!

Wow, what a great fantasy story from a very different perspective than one I was expecting. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in fantasy or even wants a primer on orc culture and social interaction. I feel I have been given an education in a culture that has never been shown to me until now. I will never watch The Lord of the Rings series the same way after reading this story. I never liked orcs in previous fantasy stories I read as they were always brainless and cruel, however the author may change your mind about these creatures after hearing his tale.

Sean-Michael Argo writes a high-fantasy story covering more than a century of time. This world has the standard fantasy tropes one would expect in a fantasy story like humans, dwarves, elves, goblins, trolls, and of course orcs. What makes this story unique is that it is written from the point of view of a marauding orc tribe as the hoard battles across the territory in search of a specific goal; its a surprise so go and read the book. The book also contains some magic, wizards, however it is mostly focused on the brutality of the hoarding mentality of orcs. I also liked how the author gave these often perceived vicious creatures emotions and feelings. We see that these creatures even have long-term goals and aspirations. As I said earlier, I will never look at an orc the same way after reading this story.

The author does a good job of pacing the story and the action by including some past cut scenes or backstory to help relieve the tension experienced during the journey. The story takes about 225 pages to tell, however when you are done it feels like a journey of over 1000 pages. The story is very concise with little fluff, which in many ways this is difficult to accomplish. Did I want more? Yes. Did I feel the author short changed me to get me to buy another book? Not at all. I was well satisfied with what I read in this book.

Although the book does contain some graphic violence, like that of other well-known fantasy stories, it is not over the top or highly descriptive.

So this story was alright, but nothing really special. Plot and character development was a bit poor and lacking, and the performance wasn't quite there either.

I was intruiged by the premise but instead of the demons actually being demons they just talk/act like edgy teenagers who think wearing trench coats is cool. The protagonist is an annoying Mary Sue and the narrative didn't invest me. the narrator did quite a good job though. young adults may enjoy this but there is probably better books on offer
