    Format: Unabridged
    Length: 4 hrs
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-26-13
    Publisher: Listening Library
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 28 votes
    Genres: Kids, Ages 5-7
    Publisher's Summary:
When Rubys grandmother, Miss Eula goes to visit her new grandbaby in Hawaii, Ruby is sure that she will have a lonely, empty, horrible summer without her in boring old Halleluia, Mississippi. What happens instead? She makes a new friend, saves the school play, writes plenty of letters to her favorite (and only) grandmother...and finally learns to stop blaming herself for her grandfathers death. Not too bad, for a nine-year-old.
    Critic Reviews:
A lively, humorous story.... Colorful and spirited. (School Library Journal)
    Members Reviews:
    Wonderful slice of life story
We have grown to love listening to Deborah Wiley - her other story Every Little Bird that Sings was equally a wonderful story about growing up in a small southern town. I'm not sure who liked this story more... myself or my 7 or 9 year old daughters! And simply excellent narration.
A great read for adolecents to young adults
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I highly recommend this lighthearted story that keeps you engaged until the end.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Ruby is the star and my favorite character because she reminds me of myself at that age. Ruby and I both believe injustice is not to be tolerated, therefore, we are moved to action.
What about Judith Iveys performance did you like?
Ivey's performance was well paced and gives us a shining example of inflection and fluency for struggling readers to immulate.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This story made me laugh out loud, again and again, it's a fun read and even more fun as performed by Judith Ivey.
    Any additional comments?
Love, Ruby Lavender does not take a lot of time to finish, I read the book in approx. two hours. Using Audible, tweens and teens can easily pause and pick-up where they left off, but I doubt they will stop listening until the very end.

Book is a good read for 2nd and 3rd graders
    Funny read for boys!
I ordered this book bundled with a few other George Brown books. The book arrived in excellent condition and quickly! This series is a funny read for young boys (my son is 2nd grade/540 Lexile score). My son loves the series and finds the books funny. Thanks!
    Fun Book
I purchased all the George Brown Class Clown for my 3rd grade grandson. They have quiet reading time in class so he brings all his books and shares them with his classmates, they all love the books and he stuffs his book bag every day with all of them. I tried to talk him into leaving them in his classroom, but NO!
A book is a good way to build reading habits as children age
A book is a good way to build reading habits as children age. Even better is a book that is on a topic they like
    Good book
I liked it a lot because of what the burps made George do. I also liked the bet between Louie and George and how they bated each other to make the other one lose.

My son loved reading this book
My son loved reading this book. So glad it was available on the Kindle and at a great price! Thanks!
    I love it
It is a great book to read. I personally love the series! I think that this book is good because it has suspense and action.
    Love this book
I love this book. It is a perfect book and I also love it because it is mystery. It Is great for teens and tweens. I love mystery books.
Another Boxcar winner with a 7 year old
My daughter has loved these books ever since her 1st grade teacher started reading them to the class last year. Now she able to read them herself, and really likes this series!
    Another wonderful adventure
When young Benny Alden checks out the book "The Legend of the Vampire," from the library, strange things begin to happen in the town of Greenfield.
Mr. Hudson, the author of the book and a friend of the childrens' grandfather, needs to leave town for a few days and leaves his house in the care of Henry, Jessie, Violet and Benny. Since he is trying to sell his house, the children offer to clean up the yard for him while he is gone. Unfortunately, someone has other plans for the house. Flowers are ripped from the garden, the words "Leave me to rest in peace or you will be sorry" is painted in red on the front porch. Something that looks like blood is being left on neighbor's back porches, and a strange cloaked figure is seen at night in the cemetery behind the house.
Will the Alden children be able to solve the mystery in time? Is the legend of the Greenfield Vampire real, or is someone trying to scare Mr. Hudson and the children?
    Exerpt from book:
"After they placed their order, Jessie pulled out her notebook and a pencil. When facing a mystery, the Aldens often found that writing all the facts and clues on paper helped them to see what was going on.
Jessie wrote "Vampire Legend" at the top of the page. "What do we know about the vampire legend?" she asked.
Henry took a long drink of his lemonade. "People around Greenfield used to tell stories about a vampire. We know that vampires are not real, so the people must have done it for fun or to scare each other."
"And Mr. Hudson heard the stories when he was growing up. He turned them into a book." Violet added.
"Then Mr. Hudson saw a vampire in the cemetery behind his house." Benny leaned across the table, eyes wide.
"No, Benny. He saw something that concerned him. He didn't actually see a vampire," Henry added.
"Then what did he see?" asked Benny
    "We're not sure," Henry said."
True to the "Boxcar Children" series, this book keeps the reader interested and wondering what will happen next. I loved reading about Henry, Jessie, Violet and Benny when I was a child; and now my children have that privilege as well. The story is well written and I love the determination of the Alden children to help out their new friend Mr. Hudson.

IT'S ALL BEEN LEADING UP TO THIS
Yes, the book you've been waiting for- or hoping wouldn't happen- is here. Hank the Cowdog, Slim Chance, Drover C. Dog, Viola Woodrow, and Bobby Kile are all here in this whopper of the start of a new trilogy. Hank gets cheap-shotted by a scheming horse, Bobby Kile is the bearer of bad news (as usual), Viola has to rush Slim to the hospital, and Slim puts down the Big Question. Oh, and Drover snaps at snowflakes. DEFINITELY WORTH YOUR MONEY.
    Great Hank story in audio

    Love it!!
As my BFF says, "I could listen to Julie Andrews read a phone book". Nice selection of poems covering the entire year. This and her other book of poems puts me to sleep at night... NOT because the book is boring but because of her soothing voice.
Julie and her daughter do a good job
What made the experience of listening to Julie Andrews' Treasury for All Seasons the most enjoyable?
That it was fun, but more geared to kids, I still enjoyed it, they read some good poetry, and stuff. It just missed being a 5 star thing by a little but it just lack that little spark for me the adult listener. (Why I was listening to kids was the problem but it said it had a lot of poetry I liked to hear and also like Andrews.)
Who was your favorite character and why?
It was a few people reading poems, it had to find a favorite character, My favorite poem was by Langston Hughes.
Have you listened to any of Julie Andrews and Emma Walton Hamilton s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have a Julie Andrews book Home waiting for me to listen too, I enjoyed the book completely and it was on sale so I bought it but have not had time to listen yet.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I smiled a bit at some of the poems, I really enjoyed listening to them.
    Any additional comments?
For a mostly kids book, its not too bad for adults too.
    Simply Delicious!!
Would you listen to Julie Andrews' Treasury for All Seasons again? Why?
I could listen to this over and over. Julie Andrews' Treasury for all Seasons is just that...a treasure! No matter what the occasion, Julie and Emma have compiled a delicious collection of diverse selections that are sure to touch the heart.
Who was your favorite character and why?
This collection includes many old favorites as well as some I've never heard, and a few wonderful poems by Julie and Emma as well.
What does Julie Andrews and Emma Walton Hamilton bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Julie and Emma's expressive readings bring each poem and song lyric to jubilant life! What could be better than having that famous voice read to you?!
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
    Delicious Prose
    Any additional comments?
I'm saving this, as well as the Julie Andrews' Collection of Poems, Songs and Lullabies, to read to my future grandchildren, and of course, enjoy them myself until then!
    A disappointment
Some of the poems bothered me.

    Publisher's Summary:
    L. Frank Baum's timeless classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was the first uniquely American fairy tale. A combination of enchanting fantasy and piercing social commentary, this remarkable story has entertained and beguiled readers of all ages since it was first published in 1900.
Ray Bradbury wrote in his Introduction, "Both [Baum and Shakespeare] lived inside their heads with a mind gone wild with wanting, wishing, hoping, shaping, dreaming," and it is this same hunger that makes all of us continue to seek out the story of Oz - and be nourished by it.
This audiobook is taken from the text of the definitive first edition and includes the New York Times review of that edition as well as the original Preface by the author.
    Critic Reviews:
"Baum was a true educator, and those who read his Oz books are often made what they were not - imaginative, tolerant, alert to wonders, life." (Gore Vidal)
    Members Reviews:
    Great for kids
This is a classic book, and a story many people may only know from the film -- the original is well worth it. It's written in a very traditional 20th-century American style, straightforward and sensible, with a homespun quality that is very charming.
Brooke Shields' performance is excellent, but very clearly aimed at young children. The book can be enjoyed by people of any age, and adults might consider a version with a little less forced theatricality.
Brooke Shields is an amazing reader.
She is so animated and engaging. I felt like a kid again. it was wonderful to share this well read, classic tale with my daughter
    Well done
Entertaining and engaging for me and for my young kids. Few editing goofs but Brooke Shields did a great job with the various characters.
    Cheezy!!!
Waaay over the top voices. Brook Shields has terrible voices for male characters. 4 stars for a wonderful classic story!
    No Place Like Home
For an adult reader the character voices are a little annoying, but I love the story.

Bought series1-9 for a friends 8 yr old sonfor his birthday. He is a baseball fanatic. He absolutely loved these. They are great for boys but girlscan enjoy them too. They are very fun engaging stories. Would highly recommend.
OUR 8 YEAR OLD GRANDSON LOVED IT!
We gave the "All Star Joker" and "Fenway Foul-Up" as a Xmas gift to our 8 year old grandson, who loves baseball and is heavily into Wii and other electronic games. Not only did he read both within (1) week while on Xmas vacation, but he then asked his Mom to take him to the library, and they checked out the other (3) BallPark mysteries, which he has now completed. We are so proud of him, and it's a real tribute to the creativity and style of the author, David Kelly, for writing such interesting books for elementary school age children. We now suggested to our grandson that he write his own mystery based on the Little League field he plays at. Hope Mr. Kelly doesn't mind the competition!
P.S. I just ordered from Amazon.com, and received today, Mr. Kelly's first book, "Babe Ruth and the Baseball Curse", and will be giving it to our grandson this weekend. Also, we anxiously await the "Wrigley Riddle" coming out in February, as we are long suffering Cubs fans, and hope the "Riddle" will give us some insight into how the Cubs haven't won a World Series in 104 years!
    Ballpark Mysteries Series
The Ballpark Mysteries Series by David A Kelly is a great fiction series about mysteries which happen in Major League baseball parks. My 3 grandchildren (2 boys, 1 girl--ages 7, 9, and almost 11) all enjoy them. The readability of them and the mystery keep them interested until the last page. They look forward to the release of each new book.
Great series for both girls and boys, especially boys since it is baseball.
Wish Mr. Kelly or someone would write a series about GIRLS' softball or Girls' soccer.
    Great
My 8 year old loves this series. He always is ready to order the next book.
