Fantastic

Best book I've listened to in ages, brilliantly written, great story and well narrated - Sarah Hillary is amazing

Unmissable book!

Having read books one and two and really enjoying them, I wondered whether this book Would be as enjoyable, well I was wrong, Sarah once again kept the main characters but there are undertones from the two previous books mainly to do with Di Marnie Rome's character and her past namely Stephen the young man who committed a horrific crime that touched Marnie's life personally. I will say no more well worth reading the books in order. I like the way Marnie's character grows as a person in her job and in particular her relationship with her colleague Sergeant DS Jake they work so well as a team. My only qualm was that I was time short as I would have liked to have completed this book in one sitting. If you like thrillers then this book is for you.

Loved it

Another great addition to this series. Really interesting well developed story. Brilliant narration. Roll on book 4.

Third book of the series & still going strong!

I have really enjoyed this series and this book is no exception, twisting and turning to the very end and superbly narrated as well.

Brilliant

Brilliantly read, well done Imogen Church, will be on the look out for more of your audio books best wishes Jeannette allerston x

Title: Murder by Cheesecake

Subtitle: Culinary Cozy Murder Mystery

Author: S. Y. Robins

Narrator: Gwenn Dawson

Format: Unabridged

Length: 1 hr and 2 mins

Language: English

Release date: 04-07-16

Publisher: Lovy Books Ltd

Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 10 votes

Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective

Publisher's Summary:

Can one decision kill a woman? Is Allison the one to blame?

At just 29 years old, Allison seemed to have it all, as a successful investigative reporter. However, a mysterious event leaves her broke - and broken - and she is forced to leave the city and return to the town where she grew up - the seaside village of Curtain Bay. It's been 12 years since she was last there, and nothing has changed - least of all the annual Cheesecake Competition. The town's residents take it as seriously as ever, and this year Allison is the star judge.

When Allison crowns an unpopular winner, Cassandra, who then turns up dead the next day, anyone could be to blame. Did one of the runners up kill Cassandra so that they could take her crown? Could Allison be partly to blame? She decides to investigate, as she still has the reported spirit inside her. Her search for the guilty party brings her closer to her old high school boyfriend Robert, who seems to be hiding something, and Allison is forced to face up to more than one secret from her past.

Members Reviews:

A silly waste of time with an excellent narrator

Allison, who left the seaside town of Curtain Bay when she graduated high school and never came back (not even to visit her mother, from whom she is not estranged), is finally back after twelve years. She clearly feels she's returned in disgrace, though keeping the disgrace secret. On the other hand, been invited to judge the town's treasured cheesecake competition, the obsession of the tiny town.

Does this make any sense to you? Because I have to say, it doesn't make sense to me.

We do learn that Allison left to be an investigative reporter, and that she is for some reason not working as a reporter at all. And it's a Disgrace from which she will never recover if anyone finds out.

When Allison crowns the "wrong" winner of the cheesecake contest, i.e., the unpopular Cassandra, who entered the best cheesecake, rather than her best friend from high school, who made the seconde best cheesecake, everyone is mad at her. When Cassandra turns up murdered very early the next morning, everyone is still mad at her, and Allison wonders if she was responsible somehow.

And of course she needs to find the killer.

The narrator is excellent. Really excellent. I'd happily listen to another book read by this marrator, Gwenn Dawson, but I have difficulty suggesting that anyone waste time on this particular item, in which Allison does every foolish thing she can do.

Not recommended.

I received a free copy of this audiobook, and am reviewing it voluntarily.

There is nothing better than a cozy mystery to start a Monday and add cheesecake, makes it even better. It is a quick listen. A local girl comes home with a secret, but the people at home have secrets as well. I enjoyed this book with a good choice of "who done it."

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Gwenn Dawson gives each character a unique personality.

"I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator."

Short sweet murder mystery

Drama and murder in a small town are what awaits in this super fun and short mystery. The winner of the cheesecake contest is found murdered and everyone is considered a suspect.

On a December evening, the Berkeley Police find Abbie sitting in her car at Inspiration Point overlooking the East Bay of San Francisco. She's bruised and catatonic. Abbie struggles to discover the identity of the strangler and those who may be abetting his actions. Will he/they get away with it?

Members Reviews:

What a disappointment

This starts off well enough - characters, murders, unusual plot - but it veers off into a

long, boring study of the worst fictional psychiatrist on Audible. It's not just a Tortured Memory but a Tortured Book.

Another classic Mike Hammer story. Suspenseful all the way up to thevery end. Simply AWESOME

Is he dead??? Yet?

Would you listen to Murder Never Knocks again? Why?

Not really. Why would I listen to a mystery and suspense novel twice? Once is enough and just right.

What about Stacy Keachs performance did you like?

That he is not performing?

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not really... I felt bad for Pat though

Title: Murder by the Spoonful

Subtitle: An Antique Hunters Mystery

Author: Vicki Vass

Format: Unabridged

Length: 6 hrs and 54 mins

Language: English

Release date: 02-05-16

Publisher: Vicki Vass

Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 16 votes

Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective

Publisher's Summary:

Anne Hillstrom is hunting antiques, a diet that works, and her great-aunt Sybil's killer. This book tells the story of Anne and CC, two estate sale bloggers and antique hunters who get more than they bargain for when they discover a killer who is hunting the antique hunters.

Members Reviews:

Great Book

I was quickly drawn into the story from the first page and my interest never wavered. The characters were funny, realistic and likable. The plot was interesting and fast paced. This was a great first book to a new cozy mystery series. I look forward to listening to the next book.

Historical Fiction/mystery/laugh out loud

First, I am not a mystery buff. I like stories that teach me something new while making me care about the characters, laugh out loud, and leave me feeling as if I would recognize the characters in the market. Vass gave me that in this great novel about friendship, family dynamics, and lessons in how antiques should be valued by their stories first. Surprisingly to me, it had me wanting to help solve the mysteries too. Maybe I am becoming a mystery buff!

more learning curve

As a murder mystery, this story falls short. As a tourist and estate/garage sale guide, this book excels. The murder happened in the first chapter of the novel and it was not referred to until chapter 12 or so. I am not sure what the author intended but as a general story about 2 friends writing a blog and going to estate and garage sales, it's perfect. The narrator did a great job with the story line and kept you very interested.

Don't waste your money.

Would you try another book from Vicki Vass and/or Alissa Zea?

If I could have returned this, I would have done so within the first five minutes. Alissa Zea reads the book as though she's got a giant smile on her face the entire time. It's awful. I have listened to several audio books and have never heard a worse performance. She delivers every line like she's answering a question for a Miss America. The quality of writing is also sub-par. If you love Mary Higgins Clark and Kathy Reichs you will certainly find Vicki Vass wanting. I would never EVER read or buy a book by Vicki Vass again. If I find a book I want to listen to and Alissa Zea is narrating I will not be buying it. If I could give the performance 0 stars I would.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Anything not written or read by either of these women.

Would you be willing to try another one of Alissa Zeas performances?

Absolutely not.

Any additional comments?

Don't waste your time or money.

Narrator: Grover Gardner

Format: Unabridged

Length: 10 hrs and 32 mins

Language: English

Release date: 12-14-15

Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 7 votes

Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective

Publisher's Summary:

Maurizio de Giovanni presents By My Hand, the fifth book in the critically acclaimed Commissario Ricciardi series.

As Naples prepares for its holiday celebrations, behind the facade of order and happiness imposed by the fascist regime lurks terrible poverty and blinding desperation. In a luxurious apartment on the Mergellina beach, the bodies of a fascist militia officer and his wife have been found. The woman's throat has been cut while the man has been stabbed over 60 times. Seemingly, the hands of two separate killers have been at work. A statuette of St. Joseph, patron saint of workers, lies in pieces on the floor.

At the scene of the crime, Ricciardi, who has the dubious gift of being able to see and hear the last seconds in the lives of those who have suffered violent deaths, listens to the enigmatic last words of the couple. Accompanied by his faithful partner, Brigadier Raffaele Maione - and once more troubled by two women who compete for his attentions - the commissario will have to trace a wide and frenetic arc through the streets of Naples in order to uncover the truth.

Members Reviews:

still good but

as the series wears on the author overplays his hand on the personal story lines (as opposed to the crime). he takes too many opportunities to stretch them out book after book.

Language: English

Release date: 11-25-15

Publisher: ListenUp Audiobooks

Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 32 votes

Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective

Publisher's Summary:

Killer Instinct: Charlie Fox, Book 1 is the first in Zoe Sharp's highly acclaimed crime thriller series, now available with previously deleted scenes and a foreword by Lee Child.

"Susie Hollins may have been no great shakes as a karaoke singer, but I didn't think that was enough reason for anyone to want to kill her."

Charlotte "Charlie" Fox makes a living teaching self-defense to women in a quiet Northern English city. It makes the best use of the deadly skills she picked up after being kicked out of army Special Forces training for reasons she prefers not to go into.

So when Susie Hollins is found dead hours after she foolishly takes on Charlie at the New Adelphi Club, Charlie knows it's only a matter of time before the police come calling. What they don't tell her is that Hollins is the latest victim of a homicidal rapist stalking the local area.

Charlie finds herself drawn closer to the crime when the New Adelphi's enigmatic owner, Marc Quinn, offers her a job working security at the club. Viewed as an outsider by the existing all-male team, her suspicion that there's a link between the club and the killer doesn't exactly endear her to anyone. Charlie has always taught her students that it's better to run than to stand and fight. But when the killer starts taking a very personal interest, it's clear he isn't going to give her that option....
