    LIKED IT!
This was my first Truscott book and I liked it. The base and its rules reminded me of the time my husband was in the Navy way back when. Although he was on a ship and we did not live on the base, life was structured along the same lines.
I was disappointed when the two generals and their commands were mixed up as it just stopped the story while I sorted out the confusion in the text.
The actual story kept me reading to the end. I'll definitely try another of Truscott's books sometime.
    Loved this book
Every book I've read by Mr Truscott has been awesome. While this wasn't about West Point, the 2 main characters were grads. This is a great murder mystery which has you guessing until the very end. Write more, please!
    Acceptable Military Legal Thriller
This book provides us with a pretty good cast of army personnel caught up in a homicide at Fort Benning, Georgia. The author does a good job with the protagonist, but most of the other characters seemed mediocre. Its interesting how many male authors now have a female as their strong main character e.g. Thomas Perry's Jane Whitefield series. I downgraded the book a bit because of a couple of strange time discontinuities. As an example in one scene military attorney Guidry and an assistant DA are at a District of Columbia arraignment trying to get a prisoner transferred to Army jurisdiction at Fort Benning. The prisoner's attorney objects to this, and the judge orders all attorneys to submit briefs on the issue. A couple of pages and two days later Guidry is visiting the prisoner in the Fort Benning stockade with no mention of the judge's ruling and how he got there so fast. I don't like it when the author evidently assumes that his readers are a bunch of dummies who won't notice these things. All in all, though, its a pretty good read, and takes place in an interesting sitting.
    Always my favorite book
This has always been one of my favorite books. I read it over and over again. It reminds me I'm not the only smart ass Major out there.
    Truscott wins the war
"Heart of War" is a suspenseful, rapidly moving story of contemporary life in the U.S. army. It's a post-cold-war tale of a military that is struggling to adjust to new realities. There is no communist menace to fight any longer, so the fights within the armed services revolve around politics and gender and sexual identity.

    Fashion blog or music playlist?
Would you try another book from Rahiem Brooks and/or Derick Alexander?
    No.
What could Rahiem Brooks have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
more story - less meaningless conversation
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
    the narrator was fine
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Murder in Germantown?
Almost all with involving the "hero's" child. A 5 yr. wise beyond his years whose purpose is to play sitcom cute for the amusement of the adults - and, supposedly, the readers.
    Any additional comments?
running commentary on what people are wearing and what music they're listening to -just not much story.
I had hoped I would be discovering a new mystery
I had a hard time finishing this audiobook. That being said, I am going to reverse my usual review format and discuss the narrator before the story. The narrator, Derick Alexander, actually has a nice voice. It is very smooth and deep. He needs to work on his pacing and keeping his words crisp. I found myself rewinding several times because I just could not get what he said. I think he has the potential to be a very good narrator. I hope he finds a good coach to help. I would be willing to try another audiobook narrated by him. I can hear potential in his voice. The production values were decent, better than some I have heard.
Unfortunately I do not think I will try another book by the author, Rahiem Brooks. I found the plot very confusing. I really could not follow the audio book. I purchased the Kindle version of the book after I had completed the audiobook to try to determine what I had missed.
I do not have words to describe the problems in his writing style. Allow me to share three quotes:
He was never without the Burberry trench, sneer, ethics stamped on his yellowish forehead, or adroit police impracticalities glued to his aura.
He violently slammed a paw on the table and caused it to collapse. Everything was all over the floor.

    Average at best
I have read this author's previous works and often come to the same conclusion. He starts off with a bang and then the storyline just seems to slow down to a crawl.
While The Bribe is not horrible, there are too many characters involved and too little storyline to hang them on.
The writing is also very, very basic. No flowery descriptions here.
The storyline was okay, but it felt recycled - like I have read it many times before.
    Overall just average.

    Title: Errors and Omissions

    Language: English
    Release date: 07-14-06
    Publisher: Random House Audio
Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 4 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Legal Thrillers
    Publisher's Summary:
What Michael Seeley discovers in these gilded precincts will plunge him headfirst into the tangle of politics of the blacklisting era and then into the even darker world of Nazi-occupied Poland.
In Errors and Omissions, Paul Goldstein has crafted a masterful novel of legal and moral suspense that draws on historical fact and legal scholarship for its unmistakable authenticity. A worldly thriller for grown-ups, it introduces an exciting new talent.
    Critic Reviews:
"Goldstein, who does a fine job of breaking down complicated moral, ethical, and historical issues to understandable nuggets, has laid the foundation for what could be a strong franchise." (Publishers Weekly)
    Members Reviews:
An Excellent First Effort and Quite Entertaining
I thoroughly enjoyed "Errors and Omissions." For a first novel, Mr. Goldstein has done quite well. The story hangs together well and, most importantly, it was both believable and engaging. I have only two quibbles with the book. First, every single character in the book was dysfunctional on some level. No one came from a normal family. Those that aren't plagued by alcoholism are either criminally deviant or suffer from one or more pyschoses. Would it be so terrible if at least one of the characters was quasi-normal (or would that make the book boring)? Second, the central charcter in the book, attorney Michael Seeley, is forever analyzing the morality and ethics of the decisions that confront him, almost always seeking the high ground. Except Mr. Goldstein conveniently overlooks a huge eithical lapse on Mr. Seeley's part--his willingness, while still in the employ of his law firm, to negotiate payments under the table from his client that he has no intention of sharing with his partners. Not only will this get you disbarred, there is a criminal term for it as well. It's called embezzlement. But these are minor flaws in what otherwise was an entertaining novel, perfect for your next cross-country bussiness trip.
Gin-swilling Detective Drys Out for a Cause
You have heard of Mike Hammer, Nick (and Nora) Charles and all of the rest of the classic detectives who are in love with the bottle. This story is about a lawyer who is destroying his excellent reputation by snorkling to the bottom of a bottle of gin when he has a call from a movie studio asking him to research and determine the copyright situation for a very popular series that the studio is investing in. It is obvious that the studio want to take advantage of his excellent reputation along with his love for gin to go lightly on his research to issue a statement of Errors and Omissions to allow the studio to proceed. He gets into something deeper and more sinister than just an attemt to steal an author's right for the purpose of enriching the wealthy. Some murder and lots of mahem can be found as the lawyer discovers that there is a lot of excitement to be had outside of a gin bottle.
This is set in modern day, but the ghosts of the bad ole days including the twin Joes (McCarthey and Stalin), Hollywood Black-lists, fake (intellectual) Reds and greedy investors play a major part of this book.
A great Summer afternoon in-the-hammock type book.
Good book for the general public
This book is by a Stanford Law School Lawyer who handles copyrights and patents. Good book for the general public.
    Intelligent legal mystery
Thoroughly enjoyed this work by a noted legal scholar and teacher.

    As usual another excellent book.
Read everything written by Kenneth Eade, have them in my library. What was written by Glen Greenwald and Edward Snowden at the beginning of this book is right. By just being a lawyer and doing his job got Brent Marks in trouble with FBI. He has a very supportive friends around him. Author always approaches every issue well thought out manner and makes me stop and think. Set aside a day that you won't be interrupted and enjoy this great story.
    big brother is watching you!
timely. brent is got up in what is happening to all of us ' big brother is watching us' syndrome. under the guise of national security the ability of govt to cover up so many sins is amazing. i felt sad though with what is happening between brent and angie as a fall out. but that too is natural. mr eade has got every angle of the govt interference covered superbly in this novel and it was thrilling reading from beginning till end.
Simultaneous satisfaction of intellect and heart
Kenneth Eade offers the reader a special experience in clarity of thought combined with immersion in a riveting story. This
kind of exposure to real issues without the infusion of puffery allows deep enjoyment of the fast-paced proceedings.
    Good courtroom drama
More courtroom drama than most, book was centered on this. Will probably read the next book by this author. Not real exciting read.

    Light Weight
Ed McBain is a good writer, fun to read. But this one is too easy, transparent plot, too many page fillers copied from previous novels, gratuitous sex, etc. A bit like Bubble Gum. I keep hoping for more 87th Precinct stories.

Well done Great reading . Then send them on to our Soldiers , which is why I have bought so many from this author .
    tense thriller
Near Canyon Creek, Montana, self made-millionaire Gordon Buchanan, his brother Billy and others struggle to contain a fire that threatens to destroy his brand new sawmill. When Billy accidentally slices his leg to the bone with a saw, first aid fails to stop the bleeding. Gordon is stunned to watch his sibling die in spite of doing everything right. Billy's blood simply failed to coagulate like it should have.
Gordon cleans out Billy's house only to find strange green pills Triaxcion prescribed by highly regarded Dr. Hastings of Butte. He learns from the doctor that the drug is making a fortune for its manufacturer Veritas Pharmaceutical of Richmond, Virginia; it used to prevent baldness. Gordon has a nagging feeling that the drug killed his sibling by preventing his blood from coagulating. The legal system offers no relief since the drug company is "protected" by the FDA. The company CEO Bruce Andrews refuses to listen to Gordon claiming he grieves by seeking culpability elsewhere. As Gordon continues to dig he gains an ally Jennifer Pearce of Veritas and begins to find evidence of deadly foul play.
LETHAL DOSE is a tense thriller that will shake up the audience with the recent withdrawals of drugs due to adverse deadly side effects. The story line is at its best when Gordon, who has more going for him than most people would believe, takes on the Fortune 500 giant. When the tale spins into a murder thriller, it remains an exciting action packed tale, but loses some of its condemnation steam of pointing fingers at the American pharmaceutical-government incest. Still Jeff Buick writes a thought provoking suspense filled novel.

    Members Reviews:
    Very good thriller
This is an engrossing thriller from an author who really, really knows how to write good fiction.
The book hooked me in right away. The pace, and my interest level, never wavered. Marshall's depiction of the protagonist's wired, workaholic, ambitious, ultimately likeable character is excellent. His prose is crystal clear and razor sharp, so smooth it almost reads itself, and works in thoughtful observations about the human condition without slowing things down. The book has good tension throughout & the twist at the end is pretty satisfying.
I have been a fan of Marshall's since 2002 when I had the good fortune of discovering an abandoned copy of The Straw Men at the hotel I worked at back then. Since then I've read every one of his books (including the noir-ish Sci-Fi he wrote as Michael Marshall Smith - Spheres, One of Us, and Only Forward are all fantastic) and will continue to purchase his new books.
One quibble: the obvious choice for a title given the book's content would have been Modified & would have been a great title. Why call it Killer Move, a title that has nothing to do with the book?
    a page turner
I'm a tough customer when it comes to suspense thrillers but was hooked on Killer Move almost from page one. Sure, there are some formulaic elements, but these are far outweighed by a gripping plot that draws close to the line of implausibility without ever crossing it. Marshall sustains a dark and menacing atmosphere in his Sunshine State setting and offers a textured protagonist whose admirable qualities are at times diluted by his own darker impulses. One more plus for me: no explicit sex scenes or gratuitously drawn out scenes of gore and violence -- crutches upon which less able writers so often seem to rely.
Bottom line -- it ain't exactly literature, but for what it is, Killer Move is very good.
    Michael Marshall fails to disappoint
I've ben a fan since ÂOnly Forward and can't be objective. But there's something about his style that just appeals to me.
The reflections about life and causes of actions that are sprinkled through his books. The mood. The way he builds up anti- or sympathy for his protagonists and then one sentence turns my perception about them. The way he builds characters that start to become mildly interesting who then gets killed in brutal ways for no apparent reason. OK, I'm not certain I'm such a huge fan of _that_...
This book only mentions the Straw Men in passing, and the end is just mildly surprising. It's vintage Michael Marshall and I could`t put it down.
    Good Thriller
Despite the clear premise of someone getting his life stolen, there are plenty of great twists Nd turns to this one.
