    Publisher's Summary:
Outside the courtroom another predator is at large. His first victim was a call-girl and it seems as though detectives need to look amongst her clients for the killer - but the discovery of other corpses, the modus operandi remarkably similar to the first, turns the investigation into a hunt for a viciously sadistic murderer.

    Slow going
This book was slow, at times I thought the story was going to get better so i kept listening. In the end the book was just OK. I found it difficult to understand all the charaters as the narrator sounded the same. Maybe that was because I am Australian and we don't get New York accents.
    Fairstein's worst
After a promising opening with some great courtroom scenes, it quickly devolved into a borderline racist, uninteresting story with Mike Chapman at his most obnoxious. Even Barbara Rosenblat could not keep me finishing this in a timely manner.

    Surprise!
Having never read any of Bonnie McDougall's books, or ever heard of her, I really was not expecting this intelligent, tightly crafted and well-researched piece of work. A captivating page-turner for sure, but also leaves a message that bears a lot of thought. Great read. Five stars.

Then an explosion kills Quillan's construction worker brother. The blast isn't a terrorist act, nor is it an accident, but it looks as though Duke Quillan was the target. None of the investigating team had any idea that Brendan had a brother, never mind one so far on the other side of the tracks. Alex soon discovers that Quillan's upbringing is very different from what she'd first assumed, and in the cupboard of his estranged family there are many skeletons.

    Another Great Read
Love the characters and their interaction. Have read several of Linda Fairstein's books and plan to read all of them. The historical info re NYC woven into the plots is fascinating. Highly recommend this and all of the Alex Cooper series.
    Another page turner
I really enjoy the bickering and the love the three main characters have for each other...just like any friends that have become family. The author gives you great descriptive insight into places that make you want to visit or stay away from if you ever get to visit NYC. I am happily moving on to book 10 of the series. Thank you Linda for giving me something fun to read when I wake up at 3am!!!
    Great as always.
Extremely interesting. I learned things about blood and DNA and the story as usual was full of twists and turns!!
    Bad Blood
I LOVE this author and am so glad a patient in our office told me about her. What is fascinating is the enormous amount of history that is behind many parts of each novel.
    Five Stars

The Appeal is a powerful and timely story of political and legal intrigue that will leave listeners unable to think about the American judicial system in the same way ever again.

    Disappointing
I am undoubtedly a Grisham fan but sometimes I do wonder if his work is written by two different people! He seems to lurch from a great read to mediocre to plain boring. The Appeal is one of those books that hints at so much potential but then lets you down by not really going anywhere. Add to that , a somewhat unusual ending and you end up with a book that is lacking and, unfortunately, disappointing.
    Oh....
dear. I was expecting another gripping tale from an author with insight and a flair for pulling you into a story. What I got was a dry, dull affair with little to redeem it.
Grisham seems bored and jaded with his own subject matter from the start and this definitely colours the whole piece for the reader/listener. It almost smacks of going by the numbers to put another title on the inner sleeve headed "also by this author".
    Very dissapointing.

A Good Tale and Well Narrated
What made the experience of listening to Actual Innocence the most enjoyable?
Ed Asner produced a fine performance. I realise that at times his voice dropped to give more theatrical underpinning to the narration, which meant that this is best listened to when not faced by other distractions. I was ill at the time so was able to lie back and give it my full attention and listened in almost one sitting.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes - well thought out plot - good legal thriller.
    Which scene was your favorite?
    The courtroom scenes.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
    Never Give Up
    couldn't finish
I couldn't finish the book. It was too hard to listen to the reader, Ed Asner. Most of the time I couldn't understand what he was saying, especially when it seemed he was trying to inject more drama; his voice seemed to taper to more of a whisper.
I think I would have enjoyed the story line if someone other than Mr. Asner had read. Or if I had read the book myself.

"A fine first novel, with twists and turns of the highest order and an ending that is downright breathtaking." (Booklist)

    Would've preferred unabridged version.
There's a lot packed into this abridged version and I can't help feeling ripped off that I didn't get the entire story. I didn't know the characters as well as I should.
Despite that it's a gripping yarn with the romance as important as the crime mystery.
One word of warning......The crime scenes are graphic and frankly creative. Not for the faint hearted.
Now I'm off to find another Jilliane hoffman book.
    Abriged Version To Short!!!
Excellent story but the abridged version left out to much of the storyline...hope it will be released in the unabridged version..all that being said the book version is much better as the storyline is much more developed but overall still worth the credit! The narrator did an excellent job! She was pleasent to listen to.
    Very Good Listening
Had to listen to it in one go, Good twist to story at the end.
    Had to keep listening
I really enjoyed this book and got really involved in the story. It was well read, with clear characters and easy to follow speed. The plot was gripping and I ended up listening to the whole thing in a day as I wanted to know 'what happened next...' I look forward to more from this author!
    Retribution
Riveting stuff! hooked til the end!

    Critic Reviews:
"A good story, which Gimenez tells with passion and conviction." (The Sunday Telegraph)
    Members Reviews:
    Thoroughly enjoyable
I loved this book, and the narrator made it twice as good. I didn't want to stop listening to it and didn't want it to end. Could we have more unabridged books from this writer please? an absolute winner!
    Predictable? No!
Looking for something to satisfy a craving for a good lawyer story with heart without being sickly? - This will do it. Not only will the timbre of the reader prove attractive but also the underlying deeper (OK, not that deep!) message will make you smile - and not wince. Something to make you want to keep the ear plugs in. A good story, well told by a ear friendly voice.
    Enjoyable
Really enjoyed this book. A compulsive read. I have enjoyed every book I have so far listened to by Mark Gimenez
    Engaging
What made the experience of listening to The Colour of Law the most enjoyable?
Really enjoyed this book - John Grisham (sic) at his best! Kept me engaged throughout and the narration was excellent.
    A Jolly Good Listen!
What did you like most about The Colour of Law?
The storey was quite fast paced, it held my interest the whole way through. There were a couple of sad characters but almost all were likeable.
What did you like best about this story?
It's a clssic feel good tale. The little guy is true to his heart and fights corrupt polititians. That doesn't take away from the book, the storey certainly holds it's own.
Which character as performed by Aileen Gonsalves was your favourite?
Scott himself was my favourite character, he keeps getting kicked in the teeth but for the sake of his daughter and the daughter of the accused, he battles on.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Finally, a Lawyer with a soul.
    Any additional comments?
The narrator of this book is a guy called, Pete Bradbury and he's excellent. The book is listed in Audible as being narrated by Aileen Gonsalves, this is incorrect.

    okish
this wasn't a bad story but seemed to tick along rather than grab me with twists and turns. All a bit predictable really. OK to listen to on the bike.
    The Rainmaker
This is a good well written story that hold you until the end. The reader, Micheal Beck, is clear and presents the characters well.
One major problem, though, the producers have decided to introduce music at the start of each chapter and whilst the music is playing the reader tries to read over the music. A very bad move!
    music
The story was really good but there was a lot of back ground music which was off putting it made it difficult to concentrate on the story. If the music was took off id give it a 5 *. Apart from that i really enjoyed it.

    Title: Sandra Nichols Found Dead
    Author: George V. Higgins
    Narrator: Ian Esmo
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 9 hrs and 3 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-04-06
    Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 7 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Legal Thrillers
    Publisher's Summary:
Judge Henry Lawler has his own reasons for appointing classmate Jerry Kennedy to try what becomes in time the case of the Estate of Sandra Nichols v. Peter Wade, on behalf of the descendant's three children. An old hand at trying criminal cases, Jerry has always studiously avoided civil cases (he's more comfortable with armed robbery, tax evasion, embezzling, bribery, and corruption). But this time Jerry makes an exception for Judge Henry. After all, it's the right thing to do for the orphans. And besides, what are friends for if not to impose on a guy?
Inasmuch as Sandra Nichols was murdered several months before her body was found, alibis are fairly easy to come by, even for Peter Wade, Sandra's ex, who is the most likely suspect. On the criminal side of the law, if the defendant isn't caught in the act, there are three things a prosecutor must prove, all of which Wade has in spades: motive, means, and opportunity. The evidence is too elusive to establish Wade's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt; wrongful death is easier: all Jerry Kennedy needs to do is make Wade's part in Sandra's death 51 percent certain.
    Critic Reviews:
"Higgins is uniquely blessed with a gift for voices, each of them as distinctive as a fingerprint." (The New Yorker)
    Members Reviews:
Might come back to it later
I stopped listening to it a few hours in because it seemed to consist of a series of long monologues, like testimony and people telling long, rambling stories. The characters behind these stories had their own identities and voices, so that much of it was enjoyable, but I just found my attention drifting too much.
George V. Higgins at his best.
Would you listen to Sandra Nichols Found Dead again? Why?
This is a story that starts with practically nothing and turns into something that you think about all day long. No one that I'm aware of does dialogue any better. The narrator did a good job as well.
What did you like best about this story?
    Its originality.
What about Ian Esmos performance did you like?
    Yes, he did great.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
    Not one thing- many.
