    Title: Escaping Peril
Subtitle: Wings of Fire, Book 8
    Author: Tui T. Sutherland
    Narrator: Shannon McManus
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 2 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 02-04-16
    Publisher: Scholastic Audio
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 132 votes
    Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10
    Publisher's Summary:
Peril has been loyal to Queen Scarlet, who used her fatal firescales to kill countless dragons in the SkyWing arena. Now Peril is loyal to Clay, the only dragonet who has ever been her friend. So when Scarlet threatens Jade Mountain Academy, Peril sets off to find her former queen, stop her, and save the day - no matter what it takes.
There's just one problem: A strangely persistent SeaWing, Turtle, insists on coming along, too. Turtle is worried about his friends, who left to search for Scarlet and haven't returned. Peril is worried that she might accidentally burn Turtle - or burn him on purpose, for being so annoying - and is frustrated that she keeps saying and doing the wrong things. She can't escape her firescales, and she can't escape her reputation as the deadliest dragon in Pyrrhia. So when she's offered a chance to trade everything for a second chance, Peril has to decide who she's really loyal to...and whether her own scales might actually be worth saving.

Alternate title: How To Make Up For 2555+ Murders
Peril's story is incredible and, at times, incredibly disturbing. In this book, Tui T Sutherland takes the opportunity to cement herself as a veritable Queen of Characterization; Peril goes through two personality changes while we're in her head and each one FEELS distinct. Some writers can't even pull this off for entirely different characters, so good on you Tui T.
It did feel like this continued for a few chapters after its ending but the real ending - or should I say Legitimately Terrifying Hook To Make Me Buy The Next Installment Oh My God - made up for it.
I liked the exploration of Peril's condition and everything that entails, though I'm still left wondering what would happen to her if an IceWing shot ice breath right down her throat. Would that help? Maybe? And it's pretty entertaining to watch Peril, with her warped sense of right and wrong, try to make good decisions. Like "no, sweetie, that's not right at a- and she's doing it. nice." You understand why she is this way and, even though you root for her, it's something of a spectacle to see the growing pains as her character develops.
And yeah, the narration on this was excellent again. That's especially evident when we get to hear Moon again after the whole thing being in Peril's voice. Distinct voices for distinct characters; the author and performer were matched pretty well with these books, I think.
I can hardly wait to read the next one!
The one about my favorite Skywing! Peril!
This is a great book with a great reader. This series is a like a young adult Game of Thrones, but with a great moral on and working together.
    Please try this book.
You should defiantly try this book, I listened to this book first, and then I read the other books I m on book four now. Try book 8 now!!!!
    Great story, bad voices
Chamelion and Scarlet's voice were not so good. Peril's is ok, but she sounded too much like the narrator. We can all tell Shannon McMannus voiced them.
We need book 7!! Winter turning!
Love this series! Great story, great narration. Please get #7 in the series!! Thank you!

Narrator Changed Voices from book 1 to this
How could the performance have been better?
I was disappointed that the narrator changed the voice of Mr. Lemoncello significantly, to where in the first book he sounded like an eccentric, this book he sounded much more foolish and bumbling. I never got used to the new voice, unfortunately, throughout the performance.
Not as good as the first...
First, what happened to the voice of Mr. Lemoncello?? In this sequel, the narrator/reader chose to do away with his (stereotyped) Italian accent, and instead Mr. Lemoncello sounds more like Barney. We had to abandon listening halfway through chapter 5, as soon as Mr. Limoncello makes his appearance.
We have warm memories of the characters from this first book, having enjoyed it both as an audiobook and book. But in this book, the plot devices were telegraphed from the beginning, the characters cliched (especially the Chiltontons), leaving nothing compelling to advance the story.
    perfect family road trip book
our family of 6, 4 kids between the ages of 5 and 10, all loved this book. captivating story and informative- we all learned a lot about the Dewey decimal system. make sure you've read, or listened to, the first book in series before this one.
    Love It
This book is better than the first one of Mr.Lemoncello's library of the first cool adventure that came out.
    Love this
This book is the rest book ever. I love it. I also love trhis series.

    Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10
    Publisher's Summary:
America's number-one radio talk-show host and multimillion-copy number-one New York Times best-selling author presents an audiobook for young listeners with a history teacher who travels back in time to have adventures with exceptional Americans.
It's the dawn of an important new day in America. Young listeners, grab the reins and join Rush Revere, Liberty the horse, and the whole time-traveling crew in this patriotic, historical adventure that takes you on an exciting trip to the past to see our remarkable nation's most iconic symbols up close and personal!
"Rush Revere here, along with my chatty horse, Liberty! Wait a minute.... Liberty? Where did he go?"
    "Reporting for duty, Captain Revere!"
"Liberty, where did you get that spinach smoothie?"
    *Slurp*
Well, he certainly didn't get it from 1787 - that's where we're rush, rush, rushing off to next with our enthusiastic young friends in the Time-Traveling Crew (but not before causing a major security incident at the National Archives in Washington, DC!) A funny case of mistaken identity and a wild chase through the busy streets of Philadelphia will lead us to the famously introverted father of our Constitution, James Madison, and the heated secret debates over the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Fast-forward a few years, and we'll help his brave wife, Dolley, risk her life to save an important portrait from the White House as the British set Washington afire!
What greater symbol of our exceptional nation's hard-won freedoms than the Star-Spangled Banner, sewn by American icon Betsy Ross? Perhaps Francis Scott Key can explain what inspired him to pay tribute to our glorious flag by writing our beautiful national anthem. But watch out for the bombs bursting in air, because when we reach 1814, we'll be front and center at a major battle to defend our liberty.

Rush Limbaugh's Vacation to Washington D.C.
Would you listen to Rush Revere and the Star-Spangled Banner again? Why?
No, I feel like I have experienced this adventure. It was a fun journey, but more time is spent in modern day than other books in the series.
Have you listened to any of Rush Limbaughs other performances before? How does this one compare?
Rush Limbaugh's script reading sounds different than his normal speech on the radio. Over the series he has improved his flow. He now sounds a lot more familiar to his natural tone, and has found a new voice for Liberty (his talking horse)
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Historical accuracy began to confuse me only because of how all over the place the settings are. Unlike previous adventures we do not explore each event chronologically in history. This impulse driven narrative and my lack of attention forced me to rewind at points from pure confusion not of what was going on but how we got there.Still the same appreciation is felt for the deep sacrifices and determination by truly exceptional Americans at testing times- like with the Pilgrims.
    Any additional comments?
Previously I admired the Rush Revere series for exploring uncommon parts of American history. I was excited for the War of 1812 to get the Rush Revere treatment but unfortunately I do not feel it did justice to the exceptional era.

    Enjoyed by the whole family!
My hubby, 5 year old daughter, 7 year old son, and I enjoyed this book on a recent road trip. We are having a harder time finding series 1-3 hours long that we can all enjoy (we have done all the A-Z mysteries, Magic Tree House series). We really enjoyed the characters, the expressive reading, and we all were laughing multiple times throughout. We are excited to continue with the series!
    11 - year old reviewer
What did you love best about Upside-Down Magic #1?
I love best how Nory learned to understand her magic, even though it was different than other kids magic.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character is Nory's aunt, because she is so nice and tries so hard to be the best aunt in the world.
Have you listened to any of Rebecca Solers other performances before? How does this one compare?
I've listened to two other of Rebecca Soler's performances and they are all really good.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
A girl must confront bullies at school while living with her aunt because her magic is different than others.
    Any additional comments?
I feel that the moral of this book is everyone has magic but some peoples magic is different then others and that's okay. Things can change and you make friends and you shouldn't mind what bullies say.
    Can't wait for next book
My kids and I couldn't stop listening to this book. The storyline is compelling and the characters are nuanced yet approachable to even a 3rd and 2nd grader. We all reacted strongly to it emotionally - feeling angry when the characters were hurt and joy when they had their triumphs.
    My review
This is a wonderful great amazing awesome book. And if I were to be a Flare Fuzzy Flyer Flicker or Fluxer I would be a Fluxer.

Well done. I really enjoyed this retelling.
The couldn't have picked a better person to read this retelling of Return of the Jedi. Excellent!
    Amazing
If you thought the OT atories were missing a bit of the details then you will love this book. It looks into thinks you probably never thought of. Like the how the engineer of the DS2 felt about his monstrous creation. Very well written and executed
    author or commentator
my only issue with this one, the author would sometimes choose to talk directly to the listener or write as if he were talking to the characters. He didn't do it often but when he did it was distracting, other than that he did a good job.
    Fantastic
What did you like best about this story?
This book adds just the right emotions and settings to fill in the holes that were in the original story.

Gidwitz wants to be the star
when he got the memo they wanted this for younger audiences it seems Gidwitz imagined a 5 year old dressed in jar jar binks pajamas. He writes as if I'm an idiot and as if this is the first of the trilogy feeling he has to give background when it's least important. He distracts the story with what he thinks is comedy and interrupts every now and then with the most stupid "jedi lessons" that embarrass you just listening to them.
I got a bad feeling about this...
This may be the worst Star Wars book I've ever read/listened to. I could barely make it through.
The style of storytelling spoiled for me what is a Star Wars classic and a cherished memory from my childhood. The commentary was snarky and poor, and the perspective from which the book is told was a bad idea. Unless you want to check a box that you completed this series, I would avoid this one.
The only bright point to this otherwise dismal Audio Book is Marc Thompson, who was masterful as always.
    Horrible choice of storytelling
I could not keep myself interested. The story is told in the form of someone trying to convince a 3-4 year old that they are Luke.
"You walk into the hangar and see Han Solo - He's your friend and almost like a big brother. chewbacca is also there fiddling with wires on the Falcon. chewbacca is a wookie, which means he stands up like a man, but is hairy like a gorilla or sasquatch thing.."
it's meant to make you feel and pretend to be Luke, and introduce you to the universe, but who would start at TESB ? ANH in the same series is very different, which ruins the experience of this book further.I wish they had let that author write TESB as well.
Mark Thompson is doing a wonderful voice-job as always!
Marc Thompson is a miracle worker
The story wouldn't have been so bad if they didn't start every sentence off w/ "you". Saying "you" doesn't make me think I'm Luke Skywalker, saying "I" does. That puts me in the character's shoes, not being told I'm him from another's perspective.
    Worst ever
After 40 Star Wars books I figured I would never get tired or find a bad one. Wrong! After 5 minutes I was done. The new hope book was a great add to the Star Wars universe and gave some good insight to the characters. This book was the opposite. If this was the only Star Wars book you ever read it would be the only Star Wars book you ever read. This author needs to read the new hope retell And try again this was an epic fail.

"Fast-paced. An exciting story of school life, and bullies that becomes a quick meditation on the promise and dangers of modern science." (Kirkus Reviews)
"This engaging eco-cautionary tale...will captivate readers while giving them plenty to think about." (School Library Journal)
"Grounded in well-rounded central characters, this compelling novel holds as much suspense as fuel for discussion." (Booklist)

Super fast, somewhat shallow, but one good ride!
This book is immediately compelling. Readers are dropped into be middle of a typical bully and victim situation that suddenly turns deadly. With flash forwards to senate hearings that intrigue the scientist is is all, readers find themselves asking thick questions about he fast plot.
The characters are not fully developed, but we find out just enough to make them rounded and cause us to care for them.
I highly suggest this book for children in fourth through sixth grade. Children in seventh and eighth with lower reading skills may find its content interesting and readable at their level.
    Fuzzy Mud
This book makes you want to go into the wood and fight for something. I rated it all dive stars because it is well read, a good story, and great theme! I think that Fuzzy Mud should be read by every body. Also a great gift
    Fuzzy Mud
I listened to this book for a book club. The narration of this story by Kathleen McInerney is so engaging. Now as I read it aloud to my students, I love hearing the their reactions to what is unfolding, their questions, and their predictions. I also loved that Louis Sachar read a personal message at the end of this recording! AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY
    AMAZING
This book was mystifying! I love Louis Sachars stories and the worlds he creates within them, but Fuzzy Mud was the first book I read written by him that made me feel something - rather multiple somethings. The ending portion spoken by Louis Sachar gets you thinking about the layers of the story, bringing more meaning to it. I recommend this book for diligent readers, above the age of 9-10. Beautiful book, quality narration, and fantastic characters. 2 * 1 = 2.
    Loved by our 9 and 10 y.o.

The School for Good and Evil 3
I really enjoyed this book because of the way it was written.
I didn't like Horts voice because it sounded too squeaky but otherwise the performance was amazing.
I would recommend this book to 10+ but preferably 11+.
I LOVE this book because it makes you cry, laugh and everything in between.
Magical and mostly satisfying end to the series :)
I have adored this entire series since it came out and have even bought the "handbook" that was recently released. This last book is a must to reach the true and final ending to "The Tale of Sophie and Agatha." My only complaint is that the narrator mixed up her voices sometimes which made it difficult you always understand who was talking when there were lots of characters in a scene. Other than that brilliant as usual.
As always, loved it! awesome series!
