I really love this series. It is very different and I especially like the humor and Rachel's wit. The book moves fast and keeps your interest. I first listened to, and thoroughly enjoyed, "Written Out" so I was excited when the second book came out. I was definitely not disappointed. The book was over way too soon. Looking forward to the next one.

The narrator is very good as well. She handles both male and female characters well. Some narrators try too hard to make their voices higher or lower when changing genders, so it's a relief to listen to a book where the changes are not cringe worthy.

Entertaining

I have grown to like the team of EJ Copperman and Amanda Ronconi. While waiting for another Haunted Guesthouse book I found this. It is book 2, I have already listened to Written Off, but there is no way to follow series so this was out over a month before I noticed it.

The added bonus was that finding this led me to discover that another favourite series Amanda Ronconi is performing also has a brand new book! I wish there was a way to monitor/follow/subscribe to a series.

cute Story

I enjoyed this fun read. fun characters, and good narrator, easy listening for long rides, cleaning and cutting patterns.

Love this series!

Great author, found this through one of her other series. The narrator does a fabulous job making each character distinctive. Can't wait for number three!

A Wonderful Suspense Mystery Surprise!!

My only prior exposure to the Jefferson Tayte Genealogical Mysteries series was listening to In the Blood which is Book 1 in the series almost 2 years ago. In the Blood was a disappointment. I recently decided to try Dying Games which is Book 6 in this series by Steve Robinson after seeing it was getting very positive reviews at Audible, Amazon, and Goodreads. I'm happy that I tried it because it is an outstanding suspense thriller as protagonist Jefferson Tayte is frustrated again and again by a serial killer who is playing games with him in the Washington DC area by giving him the opportunity to stop murders. The killer then moves the game to England where Tayte's fiancée lives and kidnaps her as he continues to play his game. After 3 months of searching for her Tayte teams up with his fraternal twin to try to find her. The suspense builds throughout. Brit Simon Vance, one of the very best, narrates superbly.

The six novels in this series are priced well below the cost of an Audible credit. The Audible and Kindle books are available free to listen to/read for Kindle Unlimited members. Simon Vance narrates all of the audio books in the series.

Do the obvious thing

I've enjoyed listening to this series, JT is an affable guy, and maybe that's part of the problem. With this last book there seems to be a lot of carnage without the corresponding angst. More than once the plot seemed to be more contrived to show off genealogy techniques than to save a life. And, more than once, I found myself wondering why on earth they didn't just do the obvious thing. Still, it's a fun read (listen) and I'm sure I'll buy into the next book when it comes out.

Decent classic thriller - narration good, but...

I probably would have given this 3.5 stars for the story. It is engaging and kept my attention. The characters are a little flat, though. I do a lot of digital retouching that doesnt require all of my attention, so I like these kind of engaging but not too deep stories to entertain me while I work. So, it fits the bill for what it is.

Simon Vance is a great narrator, but I did have a bit of a problem with him as a choice for this series. The author is British and some of the book takes place in England, so I suppose they are going for the British audience.

Like Daniels turns in a great job, maybe his best yet!

The story has it all , liars, conmen, enforcers, thugs, women of questionable reputation. And cold blooded killers what else could you ask for?

The only thing I didn't like was the predictability of the ending, but what the heck this book gives you a great ride, and the ending is minor.

This could be a movie with Sam Eliott in the staring role.

It's not a typical mystery with the guys in the white hats and those in black. it had rich characters and a twisty and twisted plot. I really liked the protagonist/psychopath. this is the 3rd book I've read by William Lashner.

wasn't sure if I could finish the book. so much more than I ever wanted to know about a psychopath. BUT I hung in there.... and I'm glad I did. brilliant performance by Luke Daniels.

I was entertained

I'm sure Luke Daniels is one of the reasons why I like this book.

The story was OK. You cannot be looking for a classical who done it. Or classical anything for that matter. It wasn't a very plausible book, but if you want to get out of your head for a few hours, this could be the book for you.

Preposterous.

Not many people seem to have either read or reviewed this book, and there are reasons for that, let me tell you. Mr. Lashner can write, and Mr. Daniels is an even better narrator, but this book stretches the limits of credulity so far that it sacrifices everything. Period. It professes to be the story of a psychopath, but the plot is so utterly foolish, disconnected, rambling, laughable (and not in a good way) that I gave up on it somewhere past the middle. Some of the chapters are so unimaginably bad that you can't actually believe you are listening to such crap. I know what a psychopath is, having evaluated thousands of them in jails and prisons over the past forty years, and Phil Kubiak is not one. This book seems to have sprung from the imagination of a child. I don't wish to insult the readers who liked the book: reasonable people can differ. But personally, I cannot possibly recommend this thing to any Audible reader who wants any kind of quality or believability in his/her fiction. Maybe this is just trash. But it's bad, stinky trash. Don't waste your time or money.

The Watson Girl

Awesome! I can't say enough good things about this book...I loved it...it was captivating. At 5 years old Laura Watson, hiding in a clothes hamper, witnesses her family being brutally murdered. She is sent to live with her father's partner and remembers nothing about the murders. Skip ahead 15 years and Laura is asked to participate in something called regression therapy which will hopefully help her remember the killings. Although the cops believe they have the correct person in jail for the killings it become clear that they do not. We are let into the killers head as he talks to you about what he plans to do & how he plans his killings out. This was a spectacularly creepy book & I would highly recommend it as a read.

Superb Thriller

"The Watson Girl" is my favorite kind of thriller - a tight, intricate story, featuring strong female leads, tons of twists and turns and a very satisfying ending. Leslie Wolfe expertly weaves a tale about a murdered family, the lose end that survived and the killer that's behind it all. Typically I can guess where a book like this is going, but Wolfe left me wondering (and wrong!) on more than one occasion. Andrew Tell delivers a fabulous performance keeping me enthralled and bringing the characters to life. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a murder mystery story - this is quite a good one! 10/10

I'm Hooked

This DS Nathan Cody guy is so frustratingly complex... Yet it's a frustration that's become a tractor beam for my imagination. CAUTION... DO NOT START THIS SERIES ANYWHERE OTHER THAN BOOK 1 - "A Tapping At My Door". While the clever whodunnit stands alone in this serial killer puzzle, the inner workings of Cody demand the setup in the first book. And those workings have captured me enough to wait impatiently for April of 2018 when I expect the next DS Cody will drop from David Jackson's keypad to my downloader.

Oh, BTW, this ain't a book for the feint of heart. Yep, it gets brutal. Not to worry, there's always another "Murder She Wrote" somewhere that you can buy if you feel a need for a warm murder tale :-)

Oh yeah, I can't imagine this ensemble from any lips but Jonathan Keeble's. He nails it.

Scared me witless!!

I love Nathan Cody - he is someone I wish I knew personally. Great police officer, honest, lovable. His tormentors are terrifying and I am not kidding around. I listen on my way to/from work and had to pause the book a couple of times to take it in. Am happy it wasn't dark when I got to those parts! The narrator is top notch and I could understand every single word! He brings all the characters to life. Please hurry with the next installment!

Drags in the Middle

The first DS Nathan Code book was a winner as far as I was concerned. There was horror and a touch of humor and the relationships between the characters was intriguing. However, DS Cody's second outing is not nearly as interesting.

It began with a brutal murder on the grounds of a Cathedral in Liverpool. Is it a one off or part of a future series? Did the killer know the victim or pick her out at random? And the more that Cody learns about the victim, the less likely it seems that someone would choose her as a murder victim.

Then things slow down and get far less interesting..Too much time is spent on the relationship between Cody and his former girlfiend who appears to be getting on with her life. However she still seems to be hung up on Cody. Then there is her fiance who is handsome, well off and devoted. Add to that some unlikely suspects and Cody's boss whose attitude toward Cody has not been explained. But the excitement and the sense of threat that filled A Tapping at My Door is missing. There was one scene in Tapping in a pub where Cody and his partner had to face off against some dangerous thugs that hated cops that I thought was nothing short of brilliant.

Another great thriller from Mayne

Easily his best Blackwood novel and ny second favorite book by him behind his Orbital thrilller.

You should probably read his first two books before starting this one, but you are in luck, they are also very good.

Mayne does it again

Fast paced and fun. Mayne knocks this one out of the ballpark. I wish the story was longer.

Third in a series

Great although more long winded than the others. Won't stop me from buying more of his books, though. I really like the characters and storylines a lot, especially because they're different than the norm. Nobody's too perfect or too brilliant. Can't wait for more in this series!

What an entertaining series!

I love good mysteries, some are so convoluted I lose track and then regain it later in the story.

Annalise Ryan writes a very interesting story, with some twists and turns but I always feel solidly anchored within the mystery. Mattie is just as caring, loving, gentle and goofy as always but she's gaining the confidence she's has always wanted. Hurley is mellowing out a bit , add Emily and Matthew and the four of them are becoming the loving family all three have wanted. Emily is growing into a lovely young woman and Matthew is more than a handful but very sweet. Their entire extended family and friends are present. Unfortunately, some will come to an untimely end.

It sort of ends on a cliffhanger but not so much to upset anyone. It's worth the credit and ultimately when it comes to an end, you will smile.

As always the Ryan/Marie combination is a fruitful one.

Oh, Hurley's new "pet name" for Mattie will make you laugh and chuckle every time he says it.

The Story Line Isn't As Good As Previous Stories

We have listened to all the of the series but this story isn't as well written as the others. Still worth listening to just a bit disappointing. Maybe the author has too many projects under her various pen names.

Really? Child care and potty training?

Would you try another book from Annelise Ryan and/or Jorjeana Marie?

No...I think I have heard enough about the trials of day to day toilet training. I could not believe the amount of time the author spent on this subject rather than the mystery. Ick.

Fair, although a little monotone.

loved the whole series. need another book to find out who is behind the pharmaceutical ring and who did the shooting to kill the hit man.

This series keeps getting better and better. even though the books end with something unresolved, it just whets my appetite for the next installment.

A psychological thriller

This is a book that I bought purely on the cover. I bought the Kindle edition in early January, and then picked this up as a Whispersync deal once it was released on audio. I featured it in my new and notable releases of the week when it was released -- all based on the cover. Once I dug below the permafrost, I realized that there was a lot going on with this story.

Matthew Iden weaves an incredibly emotional story in The Winter Over. It tells of a research station in the middle of nowhere -- on the South Pole. The people who "winter" here are researchers, scientists, and engineers who are looking to either prove something to someone or themselves. Or as it was put "they say everyone who comes to Antarctica is either running from something or to something." The Winter Over tells the story of someone who might be doing a little of both, Cass Jennings is ready to stay the long and grueling winter months of no light and no way out of the station.

The story itself weaves in and out of a few main characters but focuses mainly on Cass and her struggles. She was an interesting character because, for 75% of the book, you have almost no idea what her back story is, but you know it's important. Once you figure it out, it's almost too late in the story for you to feel good or bad for her.

The other characters that are introduced all play their parts well, and with the twists and turns that Iden throws in, you won't know what hit you... or who.

The narration was done by Karen Peakes who does a pretty nice job. My only complaint was the accents. I know that the characters were foreign, most likely with an accent -- but they weren't really well done and sometimes they were hard to understand. Along the same was the announcement in the book -- these were done a little muffled (on purpose to give it more of an authentic feel). This usually works for me, but something about the way that Peakes did it didn't work for me. But, overall, her narration was good and enjoyable allowing the story to progress nicely.

Overall, The Winter Over felt a little long and drawn out to me, but it was still enjoyable. I picked a book by its cover and I wasn't disappointed! I just checked on Amazon to see how this book was categorized, and I was surprised that Thriller and Psychological Thriller weren't listed. That is definitely the type of story this is.

Unexpected and different

The telling of this story reminded me of Before the Fall. It's not exactly linear, not a lot of action or suspense, and the big reveal is deflating. However, I liked it. I liked it for teh same reasons I didn't love it. Examples:

Pro - A large group of characters with rich details and backgrounds

Con - Too many characters to follow

Pro - Not an easy who-done-it, keeps you intrigued until the end

Con - What is going on???

Pro - Lack of one single hero/heroine

Con - Do I like anyone in this book?

Pro - Can't wait to go to Iceland

Con - Not enough parkas in the world

All in all I rate this book a strong 3 stars. I liked it and would be willing to try another one from this author.

Ups and Downs

There's real potential here for this new writer from Iceland. I very much enjoyed the atmosphere - the listener can almost feel the cold and the claustrophobic nature of snow piling up, the darkness, the isolation described.

But, even considering that the city described was once known for its fish production, there are way too many obvious red herrings here. The mystery has ups and downs, and the conclusion is less than riveting and a little bit rushed.

Don't know how much of the occasional awkwardness of language is due to translation, but I hope additional works by this author (and I do hope there will be more) will flow more smoothly.

The narrator is quite good - I love his ease with the Icelandic place and people's names.

What did you love best about Snowblind?

Setting was a character in itself. Main character thoroughly likeable and believable. Interesting supporting characters, well developed. Mysteries were interesting and conclusion was believable.

What did you like best about this story?

There was no sexual violence, as with so many mysteries today. Possibility of accident and suicide was also considered tragic outcomes (not every death was a murder).

What about Will Damrons performance did you like?

Did not detract from the story- barely noticed the narration, it was like I was reading the story in my head!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Relationship between the young couple raised a lot of interesting issues, left me feeling deeply for both of them.

Great Read

I enjoyed the way the author showed the thinking process to solve the case. I felt like I was right there at times rooting for the characters to get the guy.

Terrifyingly Good

I binge listened to the three books in this series over a weekend and loved them all. I listened to the books out of order starting with the second book before the others. At first I didn't care for the narration in Dawn Girl, but the story had me in it's clutches and there was no way to stop. As the story progressed the narration got better and I enjoyed Tom Waites performance. FBI Special Agent Tess Winnett is everything you could want in heroine, she is brilliant, sassy and devoted to her work. Leslie Wolfe constructs a puzzle with twists and turns that had me holding my breath. Her books are scary in the details of the serial killer's mind, she gets them. She really gets SA Tess as well. I am really looking forward to more from Special Agent Tess and her crew of lawmen and support staff.

Kept me up all night. I'd set the timer for an hour and still be wide awake, so, I'd set it for another hour......all night!

Dawn.girl. there are a girl dead and a stubborn agent go after the killer. Together with two agents and crew they do stuff to find a rich killer. And they did. Great story i really loved it! Great narrated.
