Believe the comments about terrible narration
I could barely make it through this book not just because of the seriously terrible plot (A person who eats hummus doesn't eat meat, and a person who eats meat doesn't eat hummus? Really?! A model can't be Catholic, and her parents get brownie points for not hating black people. Many many more examples exist for why this book flat out sucks.) but the narrator is one of the worst I've ever heard. I think she'd be okay at reading children's picture books - she's so over the top ridiculous in reading dialog, she turns the already tenuously believable characters into ear-splitting caricatures. Ugh, it was an effort to not give up though I'm kicking myself now for sticking it out, the person who you think did it, did it. I think it was supposed to be a twist, but so poorly executed as to be laughable. Save yourself and your credit! Don't do it!
    Not her best
While I generally enjoy this author, there were just too many unbelievable coincidences. Not very convincing.
    Horrible narration
I have not placed a formal review in the past but the narration was so horrible I had to comment. The narrator sounds like she is eating and constantly makes wet sounds when she speaks. It is very distracting and gross! Not sure what was going on but I did not enjoy this narrator.
    Good story ... terrible narration
    Any additional comments?
The story was great but the narration was horrendous. Sounds like she is eating or drinking something the entire time. Almost made me stop listening.
    Book is great!
I love all of these books. Lisa Scottoline is a terrific story teller. I've listened to Kate on another book and like that she has different voices for each character. But in this book it sounded like Kate was eating or drinking while she was reading and it was very distracting.

Title: The Waters of Eternal Youth
    Author: Donna Leon
    Narrator: David Colacci
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 9 hrs and 8 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-08-16
    Publisher: Recorded Books
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 365 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
In Donna Leon's Commissario Guido Brunetti series, the Venetian inspector has been called on to investigate many things, from shocking to petty crimes. But in The Waters of Eternal Youth, the 25th novel in this celebrated series, Brunetti finds himself drawn into a case that may not be a case at all.
Fifteen years ago a teenage girl fell into a canal late at night. Unable to swim, she went under and started to drown, surviving only thanks to a nearby man, an alcoholic, who heard her splashes and pulled her out, though not before she suffered irreparable brain damage that left her in a state of permanent childhood, unable to learn or mature. The drunk man claimed he saw her thrown into the canal by another man, but the following day he couldn't remember a thing.
Now, at a fundraising dinner for a Venetian charity, a wealthy and aristocratic patroness - the girl's grandmother - asks Brunetti if he will investigate. Brunetti's not sure what to do. If a crime was committed, it would surely have passed the statute of limitations. But out of a mixture of curiosity, pity, and a willingness to fulfill the wishes of a guilt-wracked older woman who happens to be his mother-in-law's best friend, he agrees. Brunetti soon finds himself unable to let the case rest, if indeed there is a case.
Awash in the rhythms and concerns of contemporary Venetian life, from historical preservation to housing to new waves of African migrants, and the haunting story of a woman trapped in a damaged perpetual childhood, The Waters of Eternal Youth is another wonderful addition to this series.

    Leon & Colacci - Perfect
Would you consider the audio edition of The Waters of Eternal Youth to be better than the print version?
Absolutely. Author and narrator - great match,
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Not "edge of your seat" novel. Leon pens soul stirring mysteries plunging the listener deep into the hearts of her characters.
Have you listened to any of David Colaccis other performances before? How does this one compare?
Have listened to many Colacci's narrations. One of my favorites.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    Will tear at your heart.
    Any additional comments?
Looking forward to the next book.
    Her usual thought-provoking human mystery.
Would you consider the audio edition of The Waters of Eternal Youth to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version for this book. I find that movies, and audible performances can change the author's intention. Some are better than the written book. Others I cannot abide the narrator and would much prefer the book. And then some video productions outshine the book. But, it always starts with the author.
Which character as performed by David Colacci was your favorite?
Guido and Ms. Electra (i apologize for the spelling as I'm not sure what how the secretary's name is spelt.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book was a little easier on the reader and it was somewhat less a societal criticism as her other books. The crime and the response to it could have taken place in many countries. Ms.

After calling Ireland home for six months, Boston expat Maura Donovan still has a lot to learn about Irish ways - and Sullivan's Pub is her classroom. Maura didn't only inherit a business, she inherited a tight-knit community. And when a tragedy strikes, it's the talk of the pub.
A local farmer, out for a stroll on the beach with his young son, has mysteriously disappeared. Did he drown? Kill himself? The child can say only that he saw a boat. Everyone from the local Gardaí to the Coast Guard is scouring the Cork coast, but when a body is finally brought ashore, it's the wrong man. An accidental drowning or something more sinister?

    A Little Disappointing
This book is in the same vein as the first three of the series. Maura Donovan is a young woman who travels to Ireland after the death of her Grandmother. Maura has lived her entire life in Boston. When she arrives in Ireland she is shocked to learn she has inherited Sullivan's Pub.
This series of books describes her experiences in Ireland. She is an admirable young woman who is smart, but inexperienced in life. As I read I try to imagine how I would have fared in similar circumstances. I doubt I would have done as well as Maura has.
Though there is a mystery here, I believe the heart of the story is about Maura's experience and the other people who live in this small Irish village. That is a charming story.
The fours books in this series take place over a relatively short period on time. While I've enjoyed the series, I'm now ready to see Maura's story progress. Maybe the story can jump ahead 6 months or a year and some changes have taken place.
Narration by Amy Rubinate is superb.
I'm glad I didn't give up on this
I almost gave up on this one. The main character Maura is so difficult to see as a heroine. She apparently was so self absorbed growing up that she never bothered to learn anything about her poor Grandmother's prior and current life. She is rude, insensitive and doesn't think before she acts. By the end, she may be maturing!
    Enjoyable Story
A very enjoyable mystery and narration with believable characters. Good pace to the story. Look forward to more!
    I love this series!
I can't wait for the next book #5. I hope it is coming soon. All 4 books are awesome!
    A Lot of Filler Material
What was most disappointing about Sheila Connollys story?
Several times the main character in the book went over the story as if to remind the reader what had happened so far. She either told the story to herself or to others. As a reader, I wanted the plot to move forward not to rehash what I've already heard.

Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
Harbour Street is the next spellbinding installment in Ann Cleeves' series of crime novels about Vera Stanhope, played in the TV detective drama Vera by Brenda Blethyn.
As the snow falls thickly on Newcastle, the shouts and laughter of Christmas revelers break the muffled silence. Detective Joe Ashworth and his daughter, Jessie, are swept along in the jostling crowd onto the Metro. But when the train is stopped due to the bad weather, and the other passengers fade into the swirling snow, Jessie notices that one lady hasn't left the train: Margaret Krukowski has been fatally stabbed.
Arriving at the scene, DI Vera Stanhope is relieved to have an excuse to escape the holiday festivities. As she stands on the silent, snow-covered station platform, Vera feels a familiar buzz of anticipation, sensing that this will be a complex and unusual case. Then, just days later, a second woman is murdered. Vera knows that to find the key to this new killing, she needs to understand what had been troubling Margaret so deeply before she died - before another life is lost. She can feel in her bones that there's a link. Retracing Margaret's final steps, Vera finds herself searching deep into the hidden past of this seemingly innocent neighborhood, led by clues that keep revolving around one street.... Why are the residents of Harbour Street so reluctant to speak? Told with piercing prose and a forensic eye, Ann Cleeves' gripping new audiobook explores what happens when a community closes ranks to protect their own - and at what point silent witnesses become complicit.

    Never guessed the ending
I love all Ann Cleeves work. And the narration was great too. Many times you can figure out who the bad guy is, but I did not guess the ending in this mystery.
I can't get enough of Vera
Vera is one of favorite detectives and Cleeves leaves me yearning for the next book. I've watched every Vera on Acorn tv as well...so very well crafted. Of course the books are more detailed, but seeing Vera in the 'flesh' keeps her image in mind while reading and deepens the meaning.
For me Blethyn is to Vera like Suchet is to Poirot.
    Just Absolutely Great!
A good mystery keeps you guessing and this one does that in spades! To the end, I just didn't see it coming and thus, loved this Ann Cleeves book. I loved it primarily because of the main character -- overweight, irreverent Detective Vera Stanhope. She is so relatable and well written by Cleeves. Yes, there are murders and crime scenes and a good deal of the book deals with police procedurals -- all things to love in a good solid mystery. Five stars or more!
    Not exactly a page-turner
This was not exactly a page turner. The mystery develops slowly, the investigation consists of many informal interviews, everyone seeming to have something to hide. The accent used by the narrator was effective but sometimes hard to understand. Maybe the tv series is better.
    Vera is a delight
Cleeves always is brilliant. It was refreshing to have a strong female lead with no distracting romance. Characters and plot were well/developed.

    Kathleen and Marcus
The author has found a way to create an interesting story and have the main characters work together instead of against each other. And the ending was dangerous in the tradition of her stories, but not. Well done.
    Fun and Entertaining
This is one of my favorite cozy mysteries series. This book only adds to the fun. I enjoyed the characters and the mystery. I can't wait for the next one.
    Mostly Mystery & Some Romance
As always the story is engaging. Mystery and romance make a good combination. I am looking forward to seeing how some of the love interests play out in the next book.
    great addition to the series
This mystery was more complex than some of the previous tales. someone could begin with this story, as the author provides plenty of information for new readers.
Be prepared to endure a lot of repeated phrases
I enjoy the premise of these books. The author is still learning the craft and could use a more experienced editor. Here are a few sentences that it's easy to get tired of: "Are you okay?"; "She gave him a side glance"; "Would you like a cup of coffee?"; "Would you like some hot chocolate?"; Would you like a brownie?" If everyone in the books truly talk and eat the way they're described, they must all weigh in excess of 300 lbs each. Talking equals eating. Perhaps it's a true Minnesota culture! Around here we can have a talk without food or drink accompanying the conversation. As I mentioned, these are cute stories. They could tolerate a diet away from too much food and over-used expressions.

    Good book; good series
Interesting plot combined with the joys of Shakespeare It is made all the better by a truly gifted narrator. A real delight to listen to.
    This is a great series
    Any additional comments?
I've listened to the first 4 books in this series and I am looking forward to #5 and #6 becoming available in audio. I have given all 5 stars to the first 3 books and I'm giving this one an overall 5 and 5 for the narrator. The only reason that I'm giving 4 stars for the story on this one is that I'm not a big fan of romantic triangles and too much angst in my mysteries. I like some romance, and I enjoyed the relationship that has been building between Lindsay and Sully from the beginning, but lately there have just been too many side tracks, and it pulls my attention away from the flow of the story. That's not to say this is not a great book - and I'm sure others really enjoy the twists and turns in the relationship. It's just not my preference. But bottom line...these are great books and I highly recommend them. I will be watching for the next one to become available in audio.
    Great story
Would you listen to Read It and Weep again? Why?
Yes, Lindsey is a great character who always speaks her mind. She is not easily bullied into situations or too worried about what other people think. Also, the ending was definitely a surprise!
    Beyond Belief
The worse thing you can do as an author of a cozy mystery is introduce a love triangle that takes center stage. That is exactly what has happened in this book. This new plot line is unrealistic and annoying. I already bought the next book but that will be the last book in the series.

Who has earned your trust? Do they deserve it?
Wow, what a trail of deceit, lies, corruption, and murder. A master who dun it! Most of the characters are in the midst living a life of deception. There are so many twist and turns in this story, and there will be at least one you'll guess wrong on" the there will be another you never saw coming.
This book is well worth the credit, and when it is over you'll be glad you chose this book
    City of Echoes is underrated!
This is an excellent crime/police mystery set in Los Angeles. I simply do not understand the low ratings this novel has received. A review by one of the listeners I follow here persuaded me to give the book a try.
    A new series
I believe this is the first book in a series. Matt Jones is a rookie LAPD homicide detective. He and his partner Denny Cabrera are investigating a series of ritual murders. Jones best friend Kevin Hughes was killed in a robbery. Maybe the murders are being committed by a rogue cop. Now Jones trusts no one.
This is my first book by Robert Ellis. Somehow or other I bought this book on the Amazon site that provided an audiobook via Audible. The book is well written; the pace is fast. I found the storys plot to be complex and loaded with distortion and misdirection that only increases the suspense. The characters are well developed, credible and complex. Ellis is well on his way to be a master of suspense. What I did not like about the story is its yet another serial killer plot. I am fed up with this topic. Come on authors cant you create another subject. I could also have done with less foul language. The description of the LA area was very good. I have listened to Nick Podehl narrate before and found his narration excellent.
surprisingly it is not his first book
it felt like the author had attended a college class on writing a mystery where he was given a formula to follow for a plot line, then input details and worked the formula to a resolution. add cliche for color and variety. I understand you have to suspend a level of reality to enjoy a thriller/mystery but there were too many places in this book where even someone who knows little about law enforcement or even human nature just can't get past. the setup in this book just wouldn't happen. elements of the story were also put together in rediculous ways. it felt to me like a solid first novel effort for an author, and when I looked him up was not expecting that he has several books out, so I'm guessing this book may be as good as it gets.
