A Cowboy Mystery/Love Story

I enjoyed this story of two men in their 40's and 50's finally coming together after several years or awkward fear on both of their parts. Josh, a broken man after being wounded in the Gulf War, takes over his family's ranching business. Marcus Colton owns the local general store in a small Midwestern town in Wyoming. Marcus has been a sort of father-figure to the teenage Petaloon, a girl whom everyone thinks is slow, but may not be so slow after all. Her mother is a drunk and a druggie, so Marcus does what he can to help and protect the girl. When she disappears, the two men get involved in trying to find her, which plops them down in to a mystery involving drugs and kidnapping. Along the way, they confess their attraction for one another and embark on a new relationship.

This was the first of a series, and ended with a cliffhanger. I will definitely be listening to part two soon. Well written by Nya Rawlyns and excellently narrated by Nick J. Russo, this listen held my interest throughout. Engaging characters and the fact that the men are older and therefore break the tropes of younger gay male love stories make this different from most m/m stories out there. A nice change for an older listener.

Great story

I really enjoyed this audio. It was an interesting story filled with great characters that kept me engaged from beginning to end. I loved the sense of family and community that they built. It made it feel real and believable. I liked the slow build of the relationship between Josiah and Marcus, and the way they cared for Pet.

I think the narrator did a great job bringing them all to life.

Good story, great performance

I really enjoyed this book. It had all the elements I generally love, older MCs, hurt-comfort, a mystery and lots of action. At times I sort of lost the narrative flow of the story, as there is a story within the romance story and it got a little convoluted. But it didn't really take anything away from my enjoyment. Also, let me say that despite the book cover, this is not a shifter story. And despite "Kit" being in the blurb, he is a minor character and not part of the main mm romance..

The romance is between Marcus (late 40's) who is still mourning his lover, but ready to move on, and Josh (late 30s) who is a disabled veteran with scars and PTSD.

I love this series!

this series is amazing! and the short stories are a perfect way to get you ready for the next book!

Great Little Emotional Story

For a short story/novella, Angie Fox packed in the emotional wallops. I really started to feel for Verity and Frankie in this one. In Ghost of Chance, I felt like the author really gave us a good idea of how lonely both Frankie and Veritys existence are. Veritys ostracization from Sugarland doesnt seem to have eased any from Skeletons in the Closet and it appears that she and Ellis are still keeping their relationship on the down low. This leads Verity to a very quiet Christmas and poor Frankie still being tethered to her house cant really seem to find any joy in the season either. But the big emotional was Mrs. Jacksons heartbreak over her losing her son in the Civil War. Goodness the author did a great job of describing her pain and loss. I was glad to see the story end happily but it was one emotional ride to get there.

Tavia Gilbert continues to delight as the voice of Verity and the citizens of Sugarland

Verity is up to her usual hijinks in this cute little short. She ands Frankie team up to restore a friend's family relationship.

I recently lost my son and my brother within a year of each other and I really enjoy listening to these humorouss books that make me believe that their ghosts may still be around and that when I talk to them they may actually hear me.

Great Beginning to a Great Series

This is a great book and Harry Blue is a great character. My wife and I listened to the second book "Never Never" in the series first. We liked it so much we looked to see if there was a collection around the Harry Blue character and found this book. Now we can hardly wait for the next book in the series to come out.

The same lady reads both books and she definitely adds to the entertainment value. I hope she continues with the series too.

Great character

Love the character of detective Blue. Not sure if it's because of the story, because or Faraday Holmes' narration, or a combination of the two.

I usually prefer hard copy reads as I love the whole tactile portion of reading, the hurried turning of the page at an exciting point in the story, the anxious shifting as you reach a pivotal moment in the book, and the physical finality of closing the book upon itself once the story is complete.

I was taken in...by this story...this narrator, and was able to truly enjoy my first audiobook fiction.

Loved it! What a fantastic story and performance! I'm thinking of changing my dog's name. Non-stop action as our heroine, Joy/Sydney encounters and overcomes one, and another adversary. ...but how she and puppy does it is worth the reading and/or listening.

There were a lot of surprises. I enjoyed all the Sydney Rye mysteries. I especially enjoy Sydney sense of humor and her and Blue's relationship.

I love this series! Keeps me on the edge of my seat! Can't put it down!

I just hope a movie will come of it! The imagary is great! But it is not for younger readers.

This story is bonkers

The story makes no sense at all. Even the initial set up is mental. But the reading - ah! Perfection. He nails it. If anyone else had read it I'd have given it two stars.

Fell for it again!

Of course I want another Poirot story! Please couldn't this be the one? Nope. Awful. Silly, contrived, not worth the listen. The narrator does well but can't save this poor story.

Narration is GREAT!

I picked up this book because of all the hype and I was intrigued of the plot and twists. Was expecting a bit more action and maybe less characters but just because of the narration I kept on listening. The book itself an enjoyable cozy mystery.

I loved this mystery!

My one regret is my inability to adequately express how much I loved this book. It was well written with a very insightful plot. The narration was perfect. I am at a loss for words!

I enjoyed this

Keeping in mind that my exposure to Hercule Poirot has been primarily through PBS dramatizations, I enjoyed this rendering. It seemed fairly consistent in terms of environment, tension and complexity, but Poirot's final explication of who did what leading up to "whodunnit " was a bit drawn out.

I have read a couple of the Low Country books and they seem to start out slow. The magic is that this seems to be intentional to give the feeling of living in "southern" time. The books draw you in like a glass of sweet tea. Once you've read one you have to read more.

This is one of my all time favorite series I've loved each book including this one ... but not quite as much as the others. The story lacks the creativity of the other books. By now the characters are well known and developed but they were flat and uninteresting in this book.

Going into withdrawal. Need more books in this delightful series. Please hurry with the next one, and the next, and the next one. Well, you get the picture. More more more please.

Fantastic suspense story set in Napa Valley!

With the Broken Brooch, author Katherine Lowry Logan throws the fans addicted to her time-travel novels a curveball. Even though it is not a time travel romance, it has the same heart-racing action adventure we've come to expect with the Celtic Brooch books. As an added bonus we get the entire MacKlenna Family in this book (all the heroes and heroines from the entire series), including their children and pets.

This story centers around newcomer NYPD detective Jenny Lynn "JL" O'Grady and her soulmate Kevin Allen, who we've met on several occasions in previous books. He's Elliot Frasier's right hand man, personal paramedic, and the Chief Financial Officer of the MacKlenna Corporation. JL's brother works at Montgomery Winery and he invites her to a posh gala that is being thrown to celebrate the end of the growing season. Instead of relaxing and enjoying a mini-Napa Valley vacation, JL gets involved with a murder investigation that occurs at the winery because it is eerily similar to a drug trafficking case that she closed a few years before in New York. Then her brother is kidnapped and soon the lives of all of the MacKlennas are in danger. It's up to JL and Kevin to save the day, which they do quickly and effectively with the help of Elliot's teenaged son James Cullen (who just happens to have a sixth sense but no filter on what comes out of his mouth).

As with the previous books in the Celtic Brooch series, Teri Schnaubelt narrated this audiobook. Simply said, Teri's narration is outstanding. Her smooth overtones and subtle character nuances are very natural making it easy to become totally immersed listening to the book. Although these books are long (this one is nearly 12 hours on audio), they don't feel like it.

Quirky and Cozy

This download was books 1 and 2 of the Agatha Raisin series. Agatha is a cantankerous, quirky, and thoroughly charming, ex-PR professional from London. Having retired and moved to a small bucolic town, she finds herself getting involved in and solving local crimes. The two books have different narrators, both excellent, yet quite different in their approach.

The charm of these books lies in getting to know the primary characters: Agatha is a pragmatic businesswoman who has bouts of teenage love fantasies. Bill is the local young police detective who genuinely likes Agatha, while being nervous about her meddling and sleuthing. James lives in the cottage next door. He is a handsome, retired army colonel who joins Agatha in her adventures but shies away from any romantic attachment. In addition there is a host of local ladies who add all sorts of warmth and color to the comings and goings.

If you love cozy British mysteries, this is a must listen. However if you are looking for edge of your seat mysteries with complex and fascinating plot lines, this series won't be for you.

Excellent cozy murder

Just discovered agatha raisin. Will get the series. Thoroughly enjoyable and well narrated by both readers.

MORES THE PITY.

I'm sad to say.. I listened to 2 chapters and did not like the character at all. The performance was outstanding ( Penelope Keith) but Agatha seemed to be a selfish, egocentric woman, who enjoys cheating and hoodwinking people as some sort of medal of honor( ie the cleaning lady) This is too bad because I was looking for a new cottage/cozy series. and this has a ton of books. :( I probably wouldn't enjoy a story about this woman with no redeeming qualities.-- I could just watch the news to get that, I guess my search will continue for another good mystery series * sigh

Feel good fiction

The only way to describe this alleged "Mystery/Thrilled" is as "feel good fiction" bordering on "chick lit". The whole story was offensively predictable; we knew how it was going to end as soon as it started. The love story was ridiculous, the characters were under-developed, and it was just hopeless. I don't know if the voice of the narrator added to the chick lit feel or not, but I think she might have just made it worse.

This book had great reviews...I was excited to try it out. Unfortunately, I was unable to listen to it due to the narrators voice. Wobbly, ready to cry female voice narration. Its exhausting to listen to the story because I think the narrator is going to start crying any minute. I tried to keep skipping ahead to push through the areas of the book the narrator considered sad....but she speaks in that voice the entire book!!!

Predictable, boring, cheesy

This book was incredibly predictable. It was long, boring, and a bit cheesy. It had potential. But the content was common and familiar and repetitive.

there was nothing particularly wrong with this book and yet it wasn't great. slow story, underdeveloped characters and relationships. fine narration

Great read and OK narration..

I can always tell when I really like a book, thats when Im at the half way through the book and I havent even skipped one page. I did like that the way Thayne and Riley got to know one another was through their talk on the phone every Friday night for a full year, not seeing each other, just talking on the phone, she lived in DC and he was in Wyoming. Until Thayne needed her expertise to find his kidnapped sister.

And, wow! What a twosome they made, and what a great love story. The twists and turns in Rileys profile kept you guessing all the time. And when it all came together it was such a surprise. I would have never guessed that final outcome.

I really liked Thaynes family: his dad, Carson, Gram and Pops, Hudson, Jackson, and Cheyenne. Rileys parents were really awful.
