Elvis the Equestrian

I had no idea that Elvis Presley had such an affinity for horses until I read this fascinating book. I especially could relate to his fondness for Tennessee Walkers, one of my favorite breeds. I loved the accounts of Elvis riding in front of the gates at Graceland to delight his fans and the equine adventures he had in his movies. The photos of Elvis and his various horses make this book even more enjoyable!

This is a wonderful book, which really shows how kind and humble ...

This book, written by a personal friend of mine for over 30 years -- is marvelous work. Kim Gatto, the author and whose idea was turned into this book, is the true author and deserves the credit. She worked tirelessly for over a year, trying to obtain information without the help of anyone from Graceland. She spoke to Elvis' friends directly, which was how she could get detailed, first-hand accounts of life with Elvis, as well as their personal photos. This is a wonderful book, which really shows how kind and humble the King was and that his legacy lives on. GREAT JOB, KIM

A Fascinating Look Into a Lesser-Known Side of The King

All the King's Horses is a detailed, thoughtful account of an otherwise unexplored aspect of Elvis' life. The author, Kimberly Gatto, weaves a portrait of Elvis at his happiest, out of the spotlight among friends at the Circle G Ranch or acting from the saddle on countless Hollywood movie sets. The book blends historical fact with countless anecdotes from close friends and associates, conjuring a lesser-known side of The King. Before reading this book, I had little to no knowledge of Elvis' love of his equestrian friends, nor his selfless devotion to his fans. It's clear that the author is passionate about both subjects and it shines through in the writing. Great read for anyone interested in Elvis, horses, or classic Hollywood cinema.

A fun read for horse or Elvis fans!

"All the King's Horses" takes you into the little-known, private part of Elvis Presley's life with horses. I was never a huge Elvis fan, but after reading this book, I want to explore more of his career. He seemed to be a kind and generous person.

Author Kimberly Gatto did an exceptional job bringing out Elvis' passion for horses through personal stories from those that knew him, to factual evidence, and rarely seen photos. The book is an enjoyable and easy read that has been beautifully presented.

Big Ears - Big Career

Mr Druxman never lets us forget that these American Silver Screen icons are real people.This one with a

troublesome childhood and troublesome 'adulthood.' If it wasn't for the women who saw possibility

in him and did a sort of Pygmalian number someone else would surely have filled "the King of Hollywood's" shoes

but it wouldn't be this guy with the big ears and big brawn. Fascinating for a reader or for an actor to

interpret and keep in his repertoire. And with Druxman's humor - so entertaining.

One Act Plays

Michael B. Druxman has written several of these one act plays and they are well written and fun to read.

Okay and would recommend

I came away feeling Gable wasn"t a happy man. No too bad a read and worth the time. The author did follow his life well.

Ain't no king here.....

.....just a guy who woke up one morning to find himself a star. I really loved this play and didn't expect to even like it! With a lovely soft touch it tells us more than the length would forecast about a flawed man who became loved by millions (including new ones everyday), yet never knew why. Forget about all the bios - some truly awful - and read what Mr. Gable would have likely written himself. Thanks, Mr. Druxman.

A Rip-Off

All Druxman does is copy other biographies about Clark Gable & then put the words in Gable's mouth as if he's saying them. A real waste of time & money.

Seemed like a lot of gloom and doom followed him

Short, but then Dean didn't live that long. Interesting what there is. I was a young kid living in L.A. at the time

and he was a big deal. Seemed like a lot of gloom and doom followed him, the Charles River writer seems to think it was

mostly movie producers hype..

I seen all three of his movies while I was in California and wasn't that impressed other than he was saying what many teenagers

were thinking, moaning and groaning as he went along..

He of course was the Star in Rebel and East of Eden, but not in Giant as they said..I felt he was over shadowed by Liz

and Hudson...

Being a die hard JD fan,I couldn't resist buying another JD book. But it's more for the uninitiated than for the JD devotee and more like a primer that touches upon his life without delving. It gives a lot of details and is a quick read which will make you want to know more about this iconic actor.

Well researched, patchy performance...

What did you love best about The Comedians?

I enjoyed learning about the history, the pilgrims, the heartbreaks and successes of 20th century comedy in the U.S.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The vocalizations were inconsistent throughout-a passable Mel Brooks devolves into indistinguishable characters, some that most listeners will have no reference for.The Danish shopkeeper left me wondering if the narrator had ever heard any Scandinavian language. Many other characters had no voice overs at all. Some words were misused and mispronounced with occasional incoherent mumbling. Energetic and inspired, but needed more professional editing and contribution.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed and appreciated the work but it would have benefitted from more distinct characters.

Can Kinski Be Understood? Heck No...Appreciated...Hell Yes!

This was a wonderful piece on a very difficult to understand artist. By allowing his own confusion and conflicting feelings about Klaus Kinski to show, he made it easier for us all to understand the seeming chaos, but basic unity of outlook he has. I found it enlightening, fascinating, and extremely well written. It makes a great difference in my approach to Kinski's work, and I don't think you can ask for more from a writer!

Klaus Kinski's intense madness & despair

Of the three pieces that Ms. Clements has allowed Amazon to republish so far, this one is the longest and ostensibly the most straightforward: a profile of a famous actor. Simple. Expect the actor here is the forbidding and mercurial Klaus Kinski. One might as well have asked Clements to interview a tornado.

What's fun and worthwhile about this essay, to me, then, is how cheerfully Clements interviews the tornado. In submitting to the hallucinatory force of his nature, she notices, for example, his torrential manner of speaking--of leading you to central truths about acting by spiraling around and around them. (It's especially a feat of journalism to convey this since, as she explains, Kinski made it all but impossible for her to record their conversations). She offers us, hilariously, his terrifying instructions to her as she drives them around ("Why do you go so SLOW! Just GO!!!").

Clements, as usual, writes perceptively, in a controlled and wittily observant prose style: "This is what I found most compelling about Kinski: his ability both to experience and to deny despair. He seemed to me like a man at the end of his rope who screams...at the rope.'" Rather than dismiss him as a madman, she engages Kinski on his own terms, and in turn he opens up to her. She picks apart the contradictory elements that make him up as a person, that seem to be warring within him and cohere only when he's embodying a character. Miraculously, she gets to the heart of Kinski's wild-man appeal, and pries loose from him a piece of the turmoil that made him such a gifted artist. Highly, highly recommended.

WOW!

I have listened to and watched Stephanie Miller for many years. She is my constant companion from 9-noon Monday to Friday . If I go out I take her along on my phone. Everything in the book seems to be true. But... The writing is just awful. It reads like a child's composition. Inadequate punctuation makes some sentences confusing. She obviously didn't have an editor. Save your money. Not even worth $3, especially if you love Steph
