    Quite enjoyable
I listened to this book out of order so it was good to fill in the blanks. Another good read from Nolan.
"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."
    Worth your time
    Any additional comments?
Great addition to the series. Another well written, on the edge of your seat story. This installment was just as enjoyable and entertaining as the first book. The story picks up shortly after where the first book ended. The plot is constantly moving forward at pretty fast pace while weaving a creative and engaging story full of action, intrigue and suspense.
This is the second book in the series and while technically you could read it as a standalone, it will make much more sense if you start at the beginning. Even I went back and refreshed my memory with the first book before starting this one. There is a lot of history between Todd and Clint that is setup/takes place in the first story that continues to build in this book.
A technological invention that was meant to be used in a positive way is now being used to kill. With everything that can be done/is done with technology in today's world, it can also be easily twisted and used in a devastating way if it falls into the wrong hands.
Clint and Todd are playing a dangerous game of cat and mouse. Clint is being pushed into the game. Todd is out to destroy Clint any way he can. Even if he has to kill innocent people to do it. Clint needs to figure out how Todd has been able to gain access CatSat codes and use them when he should be locked out of the system. With no explanation of how Todd gained access to the codes Clint falls under suspicion. Clint needs to solve the mystery of how Todd is controlling the system, find a way to stop him and clear his name before anyone else gets hurt.
Todd is one twisted maniac. I don't even feel sorry for Paige. Sorry for the baby yes, but not Paige. When you team up with a lunatic you need to be prepared for the consequences.
Patrick Nolan does a great job once again with the narration. Nice voice. Easy to listen to for long periods of time .Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Good character voices. Even his female character voices are good. I'm really glad he doesn't try and do a high pitched female voice like many male narrators do. He was able to bring the story and characters to life.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave...
...when first we practice to deceive. Walter Scott, Marmion
Audible classifies this as espionage. It is not. It is likely best classified as a medical or murder mystery. The protagonist, a female surgeon with 5 grown children, has some serious secrets. In any case it is an excellent story with outstanding narration.
A Note from the book's Narrator
    Any additional comments?
The reviewer Manstein was correct that there were some quality issues with the book in chapter 1. These have been taken care of and you can download this audiobook with confidence. If you previously bought and downloaded the book, removing it from your library and redownloading will replace the book with the new one. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Don't Buy. Needs post production to be usable.
It's the narration. Repeating the same phrase 3 or 4 times with different intonations. 10 to 45 seconds of silence. Sniffing. Pauses with the narrator fiddling around. And these artifacts outnumber the actual story narrated. Aside from the annoyance, I just couldn't follow the story with all of those extras. Never heard anything so extremely inappropriate for something sold as a finished product. I can understand so extra sounds in an audiobook but it was so bad, I returned it. I cannot tell you what the story was about in the 20 minutes I tried to listen.

    A Decent Short Story Collection
Octopussy and The Living Daylights is a short story collection by Ian Fleming. It was collected and published after Fleming's death. The book is very short and only contains four stories. "Octopussy" Is a story about a former British officer who is now in retirement. All seems to be well until a man named Bond shows up and exposes an old crime. "The Living Daylights" has Bond using his skills as a sniper to protect a spy who is trying to escape from East Berlin. In "Property of a Lady" Bond has to trap a mole inside the office. Finally in "007 in New York" Bond spends an evening in the Big Apple.
The stories are short and are not exactly his best work. Fleming was a great writer of novels. His novels were never long, almost all coming in at under 200 pages. Somehow that format better fits his style. "Octopussy" is an interesting morality tale of murder and greed. "The Living Daylights" is an interesting story because it shows Bond at odds with his duties as a 00 agent. The other two stories are below par for Fleming's work. Overall the two title stories are alright. If you want to own all of Fleming's Bond Books then you will need to get this book. Don't make it your first Bond book though.
    Generally great short stories.
Really, the only thing keeping this book from being 5 stars is the short story 007 in New York. The other ones have a clear focus and conflict being worked through. And the stories are quick reads. 007 in New York just appears to exist, not really offering much in terms of story, conflict, or anything else to justify itself, at least in comparison to the rest.
This collection of 'James Bond' short stories is good, but not Ian Fleming's best work.
"Octopussy and The Living Daylights" was published after Ian Fleming's death. The book originally contained just two stories, "Octopussy" and "The Living Daylights", with later editions also carrying "The Property of a Lady" and eventually including "007 in New York". The stories were first published in different publications. "Octopussy" was first serialized in the Daily Express in 1965. "The Living Daylights" first appeared in The Sunday Times in 1962. "The Property of a Lady" was published in 1963 in The Ivory Hammer. "007 in New York" first appeared in the New York Herald Tribune in 1963. I bought "Octopussy and The Living Daylights" to complete the series of Ian Fleming's 14 'Bond' books.

But when one of these 'slow horses' is kidnapped by a former soldier bent on revenge, the agents uncover a larger web of intrigue that involves not only a group of private mercenaries but also the highest authorities in the Security Service.
After years spent as the lowest on the totem pole, the slow horses suddenly find themselves caught in the midst of a conspiracy that threatens not only the future of Slough House but of MI5 itself....
    Members Reviews:
    Splendid
This is the third of the Slough House trilogy and I was sorry to get to the end. I had grown fond of all the Slough House inhabitants, even the appalling Jackson Lamb, who gets most of the best lines, and the nerdy Roderick Ho. All three books are wildly implausible, but terrific fun and beautifully written. The narrator, Sean Barrett, does all the characters justice. The Slow Horses have all had a good outing, but I hope another trilogy with different characters is in the pipeline.
    Undiluted enjoyment
Truly. If you like this genre, even if you don't, listen to this novel. It's my third in the Author's series and it is splendid. It is fascinating to see the ongoing characters sparkle and scintillate through a very nicely plotted yarn. The language is just right. Intelligent, descriptive and very, very amusing. there is enough action to suit everyone's taste and even recognisable villains or "goodies" abound..no matter. Tonnes of recognisable Reality offsets the fiction and makes you pleased that Goodness can still prevail over dangerous Nutcases. Please. Keep going Mr Herron- more Slow Horses please.
    Great series
Really enjoyable. Characters are interesting (I love that they are flawed and that I can judge them on their actions rather than the author telling me how wonderful/bad they are). Lots of twists. And Jackson lamb is glorious.
    Narrator amongst the best.
    Complicated creatures
The third book in the Slough House series told by the deep soft purring voice of Sean Barrett. Excellent, gripping and humorous. The team, all stamped by their past bungles as "slow horses" or losers show yet again that despite machinations by the good and the great they can rise to any, even some, almost impossible tasks.
The series keeps getting better. More would be good as yet again we are left with loose ends!
    Entertaining .
It took me a while to get used to the style of narration, monotone delivery, no break for new chapters or changes of scene. But once I did I could appreciate that this was a good way to deliver this series of books. Although it's about the British intelligence services, I do hope they bear little or no resemblance to this lot! Amusing, entertaining and full of interesting characters, ...... But not who you want protecting the country!

    Publisher's Summary:
The assassination of a Caribbean dictator...The "hit" on a traitor in Beirut...The brutal murder of a young CIA officer behind the Iron Curtain...So begins the game.... It is 1964, the height of the Cold War, and British Intelligence is riding high with its top double agent network: Constellation. But in the secret war fought across Europe the enemy is never far away and soon the agents of Constellation are targeted by an unknown team of assassins. In desperation British Intelligence sends in their best agent to protect the network and hunt down the killers. Jack "Gorilla" Grant isn't your typical Cold War secret agent. Short, tough, uncompromising, rough edged. He doesn't fit in with the elitist spies and debonair intelligence agents. He prefers working at the rough end of British covert operations. But "Gorilla" is one of the best "Redactors" in the business. He's an expert at close quarter shooting: quick to the draw and deadly accurate when it comes to the elimination of traitors and extremists on behalf of the British Secret Service (SIS). He is soon drawn into a game of cross and double cross where nothing is as it seems and even the most perfect spy can die in a wilderness of mirrors. A Game for Assassins is an action packed edge of your seat thrill ride played out across the global stage of the Cold War.

    Not your average spy novel...
What did you love best about A Game for Assassins?
The narration - the narrator definitely captures all of the various accents, and has just the right sinister tone to carry the reader along with the storyline. I felt like I was part of the story, watching from the sidelines, and was completely immersed throughout the whole book.
What other book might you compare A Game for Assassins to and why?
Anything by John Le Carre, Tom Clancy et al
I enjoy long books that move right on along
But this book could have been a little shorter if the reader had read in slow motion.this is historical fiction in and around JFK, Castro, and Central America in the 60's. CIA
And KGB, and who is real and who isn't.
If you like cold blooded killers. And deception delux I know you will enjoy the story, I just wanted to use a cattle prod on the reader just to speed him up a little
    Characters fell short
forced myself to finish it. Potential for a good story but hard to follow at times. most of the characters were lost on me.

    Members Reviews:
    Clancy-esque intrigue, almost
The story is contemporary and believable, interesting and global, as befits the scope of issues and combatants. A few too many flaws in every hero, for my tastes, but these will doubtless mellow with experience and age.
    Intense Terror-based Thriller
What did you love best about Slaughter & Maneuver?
I enjoyed Hernandez's work that packs a lot of bite into one novel. There is mystery, action, suspense, and I was overall satisfied for the new take in the genre!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Slaughter & Maneuver?
I really enjoyed the water scenes. I felt this was excellently done, both writing and performance wise. I was able to immerse myself into this section specifically.
Have you listened to any of Gary Tiedemanns other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not listened to any of Tiedemann's performances.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Past alliances could save or kill you
    Any additional comments?
The only difficulty that I had was the very beginning of the book. I am not sure if this was the way it was written, or the performance that left me a bit off kilter. Once I gained my bearings into the novel's atmosphere, I restarted the book and was better able to follow the story.
    Great Listen
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
It was suspenseful, and it kept me wondering will happen the next time I get in my car.
What does Gary Tiedemann bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Well read and easy to listen to
    Any additional comments?
I highly recommend the audible version
    GREAT READ!!
It was a thriller , well written and held your interest thru out the whole story line. When you think its time to put the book down the story wont let you. Highly recommend this book!!!
    An Overall Great Thriller
This book opens with some great action sequences, following a couple different operations happening at the same time. Throughout the book there were several different story lines going at once and the author ended up weaving them together very well. The author also does a great job of building up the plot throughout the story, and there were several unexpected twists and turns. The way the author explains everything makes the story plausible, like it could actually happen. The author did a good job explaining the characters history and backstory, and the fact that the characters could actually make mistakes made the story more plausible. I also enjoyed how we got to experience part of the story through the bad guys point of view. The narrator did a fantastic job with all the different voices.
