Fox News Fantasy

This books is perfect for those Fox News fanboys who think that torture could fix everything. That people with brown skin are the cause of all the bad in the world. It's either brown skin people from the middle east, brown skin people from mexico or south america or brown skin people from inner city USA. I mean this books has a white character sexually tortures and mutilates a 18 year black girl, then somehow the girl is suppose to be so grateful that the character did this to her that she becomes their freaking maid. What sad is that these aren't characters, this is the author living out his Fox News fantasies about the world.

Loved This Bad Girl

If you could sum up The Lure of Hell in three words, what would they be?

Intense, Scary, and Fun!

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the palpable fear that Ms. Lynn Montoya elicited right from the pages of the novel. Her patience with her targets was so eerie that it became humorous. Lynn's comment to a potential target during a police interrogation: Dont mind that mean old policeman, let him leave; you and I will work it all out nearly brought me to my knees laughing.

The scary part was in knowing she meant every word of what she said.

Have you listened to any of Kevin Pierces other performances before? How does this one compare?

Hey, Kevin is one of the best. In fact, I decided to discontinue buying books in this series because Kevin stopped narrating beyond book 4. He has the unique ability to left the story right off the pages and arouse the imagination. Kevin patience in narrating allows one to experience the story as though the events were happening in real time. He put the element of reality in fiction.

Narco Terror?

What if narco terrorists with lots of money hired mahem and anarchy in the US? Applied the same strong arm tactics to the USA as to Columbia or Venezuela? That's the thesis of this book and Jake Grafton plays a small but crucial role. I was surprised that the US leadership did not apply interdiction in Columbia to the story; it would have improved some. Instead, the author stayed with tactical roles, even making the CJCS a tactical commander. I liked the book and am looking forward to the next in the Grafton series.

Geeeez. What a mess.

Everyone loves thoae multiple and separate character pathways that converge ....peak...and follow through. The book does that for about 8 chapters too long and with Character names that are so close in sound .....it is almost impossible to follow.

Multiple starts and finally I just crept painfully along u til Chapter 12 and the story started. .....Geeez I never thought I would ever see Jake Grafton enter the story as a main character.

Stephen Coonts failed me for the first time.

Ugg. Don't buy thia book unless you has 30 hours to spend on a 17 hours book.

Too complicated!

Too many plots and sub plots. I felt it was confusing and too many different things going on were a major distraction. Also, way too long!

A few hours too long

This was surprisingly difficult to listen to. It was all over the place. I must have pressed fast forward over 100 times because I was so bored. Too little time was spent on the parts that would have made it a good book. I am extremely disappointed and do not recommend this book.

You'll enjoy the constant movement and situations Jake and company continue to find themselves in but it's all on the Ground! All the pilots are walking...

Superb!

Of all the Chess Team stories I think this is the most shocking. Lots of questions are answered. Page-turningly good. As always the action and characters are written extremely well. I am very please we have not seen the last of the Chess Team....long live King!

Kafer does a fantastic job bringing the characters to life. He will have you laughing, gasping and maybe even shedding a tear.

It's awesome! well worth the read or in this case the listen! I have become a fan boy of jeremy robinson and his books! To be honest it been hard to find a series that can hold my attention and cause me to remember each character and its history. Jeremy has done it and he blends characters from his other series together in new books seamlessly!

Great Story

Coonts delivers another great installment of the Grafton series! Great character development and awesome flying scenes. Was a bit slow to start as he set the stage, but took off from there and was hard to put down once started.

Narrator is excellent and gives characters their own distinction through his voice.

First Time Reading this Author

This book has extremely long chapters. I've never read this author until now so I'm not sure if this is his normal writing style. Also I didn't like how the author described every little thing to the fullest. There seemed to be alot of characters that didn't add to the story. I did however like the narrator of the book voice.

Dead people won't stay dead....

In post-soviet Russia, nothing is what it seems...or is it? One thing that is clear and certain is that murder has taken no leave from the society....Arkady Renko finds himself trying to find a killer...or killers...and as usual the odds seem not in his favor. This novel is a fast-paced and satisfying mystery with an ending that fits the overall story...I liked Gorky Park better, but I was glad to visit Renko again....

Decent story relevant to our times

I have long been a fan of the Arkady Renko series though this is the first I have experienced as an audio book. Martin Cruz Smith brings well drawn characters and exquisite turns of phrase to the genre. The world weary Renko seems endlessly adaptable to the ever evolving Russian landscape. Some of the coincidences and plot twists require a fair amount of suspension of disbelief but it's such a pleasure to inhabit Smith's world that I'm easily won over. The only complaint I have is, though the reader had an appealing delivery, he read at a somnambulent pace which got pretty frustrating after a while. He also didn't bother much with differentiating the voices.

I really like this new series. Sullivan is proving himself to be included with authors like Ben Coes, Mark Greaney etc. the books have complex plots with many curves along the way and once solved , the conclusion is not the end, that's when hidden agendas are revealed. GREAT!!

The most incompetent hero ever.

I bought this book on the recommendations. Although it is your average pulp fiction, it is rather ludicrous. The hero, Robin Monarch, is hired by the president to find the captured secretary of state. His credentials is that he is ex CIA, Special Forces, and allegedly the world's best thief. Okay, that is standard fare. But the real issue with this book is that the guy gets caught in every situation. He always manages to fight his way out, but to be caught every time?. In one scene he wants to rob an office in the world's tallest tower so of course he has to jump out of a helicopter and land on the side of the building with super magnetic gloves (although the author states the building is covered in stainless steel which is non magnetic). He finally gets in the office and two minutes later the owner walks in a catches him. How about the old tried and true criminal technique of the lookout?

There are much better books in this genre, not sure would waste a credit here.

Meh, it was okay

Robin is never all that competent but the book was entertaining. A little more action and a lot better writing and it would have gotten another star.

Monarch is back

Robin Monarch is a new kind of crook. Just as likable as Mitch Rapp or Dewey Andreas from some other books in this genre. Sullivan has something good here and Jeff Gurner gives a good voice to Robin. Keep them coming.

I was well entertained. Moves along, fast paced. Our thief has more lives than a cat. Not a believable novel but it was fun. Kind of like a James Bond, fun but not real. Narrator did a pretty good job.

Don't worry because Jake Grafton...

...is still alive! The ending makes it appear Jake had been killed, but he's still alive and will appear in at least 15 more novels. It was, however, his last flight as a Navy pilot.

I first read Final Flight almost 30 years ago and now I'm going back and listening to the older novels in this and the Tommy Carmellini series (think of the Grafton and Carmellini series as one 18 novel series). This is Book 3 in the series. It is also the last where Grafton is a Navy pilot. It is the first where Grafton participates in espionage, but the rest of his career is in that area. Book 3 takes place 15 years after the end of Book 2.

Final Flight is an outstanding novel with a great plot to go along with action and intense suspense. Stephen Coonts, an ex-Navy pilot, is a very talented story teller. The first three novels in the series mirror his own experiences in the same planes he flew. I'm a huge fan of this series and recommend all 18 novels in the Grafton and Carmellini series, but I am not a fan of much of his other work. The books in this series are standalone. (By the way, Tommy Carmellini enters the series in Book 7 which is titled Cuba.)

Very upset with Coonts as to the prolific foul language, which is new for him, and the way the story ends. There are several "Jake Grafton" books that come after this one and they are all very good reads. Wonderful story and edge of your seat action ruined by language and porn.

Spine tingling? Maybe? It was one hellova good Navy book. From the boring administrative details of Navy life, to the smashing conclusion; the book was a fun read. And, as always with a Coonts novel, our hero saves the world for democracy and the American way.

Newly released originalbook.

I find it interesting that a number of authors are bringing some of their earliest publication into the digital age. This is one of them. Grafton is still a leutenant fighter pilot in this 1996 book.It is a fun read and fills in some of his early history. The narration was Excellent. The ending was AWFUL. Coonts doesn't even hint at their being more to come in the Grafton series.

Monopolizing

This is book two in the Jet Series. Jet is the code name of Mossads greatest female operative. At the end of book one Jet discovers her daughter was not dead but living with an adopted family in the USA.

Jet flies to the States to obtain her daughter and just after stealing her she is apprehended by the CIA. They insist she assassinate the White Devil, a former CIA agent and also obtain the 50 million dollars worth of diamonds he stole from them. Apparently he is running a large criminal organization in Thailand. The story then moves to the streets and jungles of Thailand and Myanmar; she finds the story is not what it seems to be.

The book is well written and the plot twists and turns keeping the reader alert as does the fast pace action. The suspense builds throughout the story. As with book one it helps, at times, to suspend belief and just enjoy the story. Looking forward to book three in the series.

Braden Wright does a good job narrating the story. Wright is an actor, voice over artist and audiobook narrator.

It is "okay" if you were looking for YA flavor

Bit weaker than book 1 in the series... probably because the time line was "collapsed" here. Instead of writing it as a sequential series of events where the main character works her way through challenges, she just seems to miraculously jet (pun intended) from one locale to another and one urgent event to another.

And, of course, there was a "true love" hiatus mid-story which was not well done and not believable (but also not detailed or graphic).

Actually, the entire story is not graphic or detailed, which makes it feel like a young adult action novel. As such, it is a decent book. If you are looking for a mature/dark struggle-filled story line, you won't find it here.

The narration is fine. There is no sex or graphic violence and I don't recall any swearing.

Another Edge of Your Seat Thriller

A home run by Mr. Blake, who has a knack of weaving words together in a mesmerizing way. Narration was great, but the story's the star here. Go, Jet, go! Love this series so far.

Most espionage thriller authors write one or maybe two book each year. Russell Blake averages six or more. This means he does most of his research online rather than by visiting the actual locals. The quality of Blake's work is very high. Great espionage thrillers combine outstanding character development and suspense, intense and sustained. Blake is as good as anyone at writing superb espionage thrillers. He utilizes the talents of actor Braden Wright as narrator of the JET series.
