Cost vs Value for a 3-minute story

Any additional comments?

This was a very sweet book that teaches a lesson in persevering and being nice. It would be a good story for a child feeling left out.

I chose this book because of the narrator (Kathrine Kellgren is awesome) and loved her performance as usual. It is just the length of the book (3 minutes) compared with the cost (about 2 dollars if I remember right) that did not feel right.

CUTE BOOK!!

I love the Gossie series of books by Olivier Dunrea. This book is a simple, sweet tale of BFFs. I love that although Gossie seems to be the friend in charge to begin with that really both Gossie and Gertie have their own likes and dislikes and both love being with each other.

Love!

My daughter loves this whole series - I do, too. All of Olivier Dunrea's work is great. The illustrations are great, and it's a good choice for someone learning to read, too.

Love the Splat books. My twin grandsons got me started. The fact they also come in the 'I can Read Book 1' makes it all the better. These are entertaining books. The drawings are cute as can be. Title: The Turtle

Subtitle: The Lighthouse Family, Book 4

Author: Cynthia Rylant

Narrator: Mark Nelson

Format: Unabridged

Length: 27 mins

Language: English

Release date: 02-22-13

Publisher: Recorded Books

Genres: Kids, Ages 5-7

Publisher's Summary:

Beloved award-winning childrens author Cynthia Rylant adds to the touching tale of the Lighthouse Family with The Turtle.

Fog descends upon the lighthouse, and Seabold the dog uses the foghorn to warn oncoming ships. Then Seabold and the mouse children, Whistler and Lila, hear a cry for help! Can Pandora the cat figure out a way to save a stranded sea turtle from the cold northern waters?

Members Reviews:

Just love this series - buy them all

Cynthia Rylant is a marvelous author and obviously quite prolific. She is the author of the "Poppleton," "Henry and Mudge," and the "Cobble Street Cousins," series as well as numerous other books. I bought this particular series for my nieces (ages 4 and 7). They are short, almost novellas, but Rylant does not "talk down" to her audience instead exposing our young ones to higher level vocabulary. The adventures the Lighthouse Family have, especially the three orphaned/adopted young mice, are exciting, but quiet; no extreme violence, fearful chases or shoot 'em up. They make great bedtime reading.

Great early chapter series!!

So we read just about everything by Cynthia Rylant (see "Mr Putter and Tabby") - but the Lighthouse Family series introduces young readers to chapters with 'more words on the page'. The stories are sweet, warm and fuzzy but also keep the student's attention as they wait to see how the problem in each story is resolved. The characters are charming. This is a 'safe' series I used for 2nd grade readers and character discussions. Highly recommend!

Would Not Purchase in This Format

Good story but illustrations are almost impossible to decipher; they are not colored and my 3 and 5-yr.-old could not clearly see the characters. The book is a rough-paged paperback enclosed in a fresh hardbacked cover, which has a nice colored illustration on the front. I would not have bought this if I had realized the format.

Good series.

Daughter loves it, and the series. Very kid friendly. No promo / discount given for this review.

Perfect series.

Cynthia Rylant is always good and these books are some of her best, a very fine series, great illustrations as well. Sweet sweet all around.

Great book.

Found this at our dollar store. Great book.

A lovely alternative to fairy tales

I would highly recommend these as an alternative to all those silly fairy tales that 1st and 2nd graders are reading these days. They are an easy enough read, and are actually interesting! Try them at the library before you buy, you'll want the whole set!
