A Year Later at the Painted Lady Inn

The Painted Lady Inn has opened in Legacy, NC. and Donna has an inn full of guests. Half of them people she went to high school with.

And since she didn't like them in high school she's not to thrilled her sister-in-law booked them into the inn, but money is money.

Of course Donna has her hands full with a battling wedding guest couple who high jack her dog at every turn. Then the odd old lady who is blunt and reminds Donna of someone. And the millionaire pooper scooper who has a crush on Donna.

Donna's old classmate Wyn is found dead and decides this has to be solved without her inn being involved.

After all Wyn checked in with his wife and then slipped out of his room to his old girlfriend's Teri's room and then his real wife shows up.

And since his body was found in the woods maybe she can help solve this without the reporters ever linking the two and she can keep getting positive reviews.

The motive and killer are quite obscure and no clues are ever present which for me kind of takes the fun out yet the personality of the characters, especially Donna who is still the least likely inn keeper makes it a good read.

Still a 3.5. 3 for the killer and motive, 4 for the characters and story line. And at least we know it's in NC for sure, even if on the boarder .

Can Donna clear her B&B Inn from yet another murder?

Donna has a 30 year high school reunion coming and she has decided to use that to help build some business for her Bed and Breakfast Inn. Unfortunely for her, some of her worst nightmares in high school have made reservations there, plus a few odd characters thrown in just to add to the mix of torment for Donna. Then one of her guests is murdered. Do they have a murderer among them at the inn? Things just keep getting stranger and stranger. Donna doesn't want her inn associated with yet another death. Can she figure out who the murder is and why? The answer will surprise you! Can Donna and her "friend" Detective Mark Taber finally get together? A fun read from the beginning clear to the end.

Really enjoyed this series

I have truly enjoyed this cozy mystery series. I like that the main character, Donna, is smart, independent and actually thinks! Very entertaining.

This is a well written book that will keep your interest from beginning to end. The characters are multidimensional and act in a realistic manner. I truly enjoyed this mystery and hope that the next Ava Logan book will be available soon.

A current mystery with a connection to one from 20 years ago

This is a very good mystery, and I was torn on my rating of this audio book. I had read the book previously and gave it a 5-star rating, but I'm one of those people who read their favorite books over several times. When I had a chance to get the audio book from Liz I was excited to have the chance to listen to it while in the car. The 4-stars are for the narrator.

I had never listened to a book read by Jennifer Fournier. The narrative parts of the book and her interpretation of Polly, for the most part, are very good. She is easily understood, has good diction and pronunciation, and reads at a good pace. She changes inflection for the various characters. When Ms. Fournier switches tone for other characters she needs to consider this is a book for adults. Her interpretation of Rooster is a cross between Santa Claus and the Big Bad Wolf. Occasionally she makes Polly sound like a 6-year old, especially if she's been caught taking unnecessary risks and has to explain her actions.

That being said, I would still recommend adding this book to your audio library. Ms. Fournier is clear and concise in her reading. It is easy to follow the action in the story. It is great to be able to listen to the book while engaged in some other activity that prevents reading, such as driving, cooking, needlework or other actions such as those.

Liz Dodwell is one of my favorite authors. When a young woman is found dead, being guarded by her Irish Setter, Polly believes it's murder even though it is ruled accidental death. It also seems to be connected to a disappearance of a child twenty years ago. This is a great mystery with twists and turns and an ending that took me by surprise. Seeing Red is a stand alone book but a great part of the Polly Parrett series. It is such a treat to be able to listen to the story.

Enjoyable mystery about secrets from the past leading to murder

Received free audio book for a review. I really like the Polly Parrott pet sitter mysteries even before this, but I have recently started buying audio versions, so... I was pleased that one of the Polly stories I hadn't read yet was this one. I enjoy the mix of characters in these mysteries. Polly and her pet sitters, her boyfriend, her Mother and the vets being helped. Polly's contact with Eric (full name Eric the Red), finds her and gets her following him to his very ill mistress. Circumstances lead to the second meeting with Eric, again related to his mistress, but this time she is dead, in very mysterious, to Polly, circumstances.

Elliot Lisbon is Fun and Adventure

The adventures of Elli Lisbon are fun, well mostly fun. Her trips (literally) are expected by the time you read the 4th book in the series but it's okay because that's who she is. She has "attitude" that drives her boyfriend/lover crazy but he loves her just the same and who cannot? The serious side of Elli slips into the plot just enough to make her less scatter brained and if she's just shed that germ phobia, she'd be someone it would be fun to meet although her friends and acquaintances have been known to wind up dead or injured.

Always Entertaining

Love traveling around the "Island" with one of my favorite PI in training. Kendel Lynn never lets readers down. POT LUCK entertains and intrigues the reader in an attempt to solve yet another mystery. It's good, folks. If your are not familiar with Kendel Lynn, do yourself a favor, read all four mysteries. You will not be disappointed!

Serious but Humorous

Funny mostly. Serious plot with an unusual storyline. But then all of the books in this series have been that way. Which is why I enjoy them! Some mystery along with humor and a twist at the end! Love it!

Another good one!

I have enjoyed all of the Elliot Lisbon books. The pug puppies in this one are adorable and the story is good. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a well-written cozy.

More fun!

Her series and characters are always amusing. What fun! Lynn's ex-husband recommended her writing and I have read all of this series. I do not know if it is part of a settlement agreement but a certain detective would soon get to the bottom of this issue.

Love the series.

Hidden witch

Harlow trying to keep her witch skills from Jack and an arsonist on the loose. Teenagers to deal with and a crazy family to boot. Good reading.

Great vacation read

This is a good read. The book definitely kept me hooked the whole way through. I like Harlow and her crazy family. Can't wait for the next one.

Fantastic story

This was interesting but yet confusing due to the fact that Harlow again seems more of a scatter brain sometimes. I get why they keep making comments on here abilities as a journalist being faulty at best. Focus seems to be a problem where Harlow is concerned. There are plenty of instances where she could have used spells that she has learned and used before to get out of danger. At least now she realizes that the preseason she does not know any good spells is due to her lack of wanted to know and asking to learn them. Cannot not wait for the author to reveal the reason behind the grandmother's cryostasis and how it relates to John because I just know it is connected somehow. The author has a great imagination and looking forward to more of her work.

Great Book!

This book is the third book in the series. It was a fun read. I can't wait for the next one!

I was not impressed with the readers who preformed in the book, it too a along time to really get into the book, but as the plot thickens it gets more interesting and the ending of the book was much better than the beginning. and it was an overall [email protected] read and listening on audio is a great experience with a book like this one, and I love Nancy McGovern books so I can't wait to start the next one.Thank you Nancy

Not What I Expected

I was disappointed in this Puzzle Lady book, loved the previous ones. This was definitely not up to the quality of his previous books. I had a hard time finishing it. Ending was predictable and blah.

The adventures keeps goingwith Walt and the gang! In this audiobook of the Lady Justice series, Robert Thornhill tackles a very serious topic, but also injects humor at every turn.

Stinging Fun

I really enjoyed this book. The story was engaging, educational, and over the top FUN. I can not speak highly enough about Thornhill's ability to both entertain AND increase awareness.

In addition to rubbing elbows with some of the funniest characters in audiobooks, we are taken on an exhilarating, high stakes ride to the world of the pharmaceutical industry its unsavory connection to politics. While I have great appreciation for the historical use of herbs in apothecary, the business of prescription drugs has evolved into a synthetic madness and a network of avarice that does not benefit the sick or the general public. Thornhill totally takes delivers this message in a way that does not make you feel depressed. Instead you feel motivated to do something on a grassroots level-- and to try out another installment of Lady Justice; Lady Justice and Dr. Death for example.

My only "stinging" comment is that one or two of Thornhill's characters are a bit overly stereotypical in a way that detracts from the story. A few things happened or were said or described in ways that seemed to serve a purpose other than "story." At the very least they had the effect of listening to a lovely song on "wax/LP" and then suddenly being jarred with a "skip." Any more elaboration may inadvertently" lead" readers of this review, which is not my intent. I simply wanted to explain the "overall" rating of 3 stars.

Narrator George Kuch knocks it out as if the story were his. *This is a sidebar only and has no weight on my review of Kuch: For some reason, listening to his voice makes me think of a tall, strong guy, but the main character often references how his short and rather small stature.

Very Entertaining

This is a very entertaining book with engaging characters. I thought the end of the book was a bit to involved. But I enjoyed the story.

Amazing tale

This is the second in what I hope is a long series. Unusual but well done.
