But then the journalist is found dead, and suspicion falls on the last person to see him - who just happens to be Ellie's brother's girlfriend. Just OK
I read the first book in the series and enjoyed it. This book fell a bit flat. Ellie is defending her brother's girlfriend for a murder she has no reason to commit. Colby her brother is an immature wanderer who thinks his big sister can fix everything while he sits in his van and sleeps. The characters didn't appeal to me and the story lacked depth. I don't know about the next one.
    Bad narrator
Would you try another book from Bailey Cattrell and/or Vanessa Daniels?
Bailey Catrell yes. Vanessa Daniels . .. definitely not.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Difficult to concentrate on story with awkward pauses and intonation. Actually ended up buying the paperback to finish the book.
    Any additional comments?
Love this story but couldn't finish the audio book past the first 2 chapters due to the horrible narrator. I bought the paperback and finished it.

    The Lady of the Lake
What made the experience of listening to The Lady of the Lake the most enjoyable?
Michelle Babb's relaxed way of narrating. The way she brings the characters to life and doesn't try to be overly dramatic allows the story to flow.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Lady of the Lake?
When it appeared the Lady of the Lake might have actually been spotted
Which character as performed by Michelle Babb was your favorite?
I liked the barefoot woman. Her character was so much different than the others and I felt like she added a little something extra to the story.
    Any additional comments?
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the
    author, narrator, or publisher.
    Great Series
As always this narrator did not disappoint. This story really comes to life when Frannie gets into her shenanigans. This makes me wish I had an RV so I could have a group of friends that loves camping and we would go frequently. There were some really good new characters created for this story, especially the author and her little dog. My heart broke for Donna due to her past. The Wiccan was a really weird side character. Brother and Sister in a dance competition, really? Its kinda funny how law enforcement knows Larry and Franny Schumaker no matter where they end up. I love female sleuthing stories. Keep up the good work. I voluntarily offered this review in exchange to listen to this book.
    GOOD MYSTERY

This is the story of a woman who discovers she has inherited powers, even though she didn't know it. It's a very light, kind of funny, good read. Very enjoyable. I recommend it.

    Great Read
    Any additional comments?
Poison My Pretty by Amity Allen was a good read. Poppy turns 21 when her popular television show gets cancelled. She returns home and finds her life changes completely. I enjoyed reading this book.
I read, loved and reviewed this book, YOUR TURN
poppy is so lovable, but it didn't really go into her pqoers, or how she would use them. beauty pageant for kids like toddlers and tiaras, a murder, and a cat... makes for a great little cozy!!!
    Loved it!
This was a very well written, beautifully performed murder mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the plot moved right along. There wasn't a cliffhanger but there is definitely a setup for the next book in the series. I can't wait to continue on with the next book!
A fun cozy with a bit of witchiness.
Would you listen to Poison My Pretty again? Why?
I am not sure. I might if in the mood for a short cozy. The narration is spot on.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Poison My Pretty?
At the end when the cat speaks to her.
    Which scene was your favorite?
I liked the part where the mystery came to a head.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I did chuckle a few times.
    Any additional comments?
Poison My Pretty is a fast-paced, short cozy with a paranormal twist.
Poppy Parker was a child star but after five years her series is canceled. It was a series with three young witches that solve mysteries. Now a judge at a beauty pageant with bodies falling dead she is putting those skills to work in life, along with her new found talent of being a real witch.
The story is full of quirky characters, it's fast-paced and funny with a touch of mystery. There was a hint of romance in bloom with the cop that stops her in the beginning but I would have liked to see a bit more of that even without sex just a fun romance. I also would have liked more of the witch part as that was very little but I did see that there may be more to come.

    Wonderful Mystery
    Any additional comments?
While digging up clay for her pottery, Shandra Higheagle digs up a skeleton. She calls detective Ryan Greer so he can come to investigate this discovery. The body turns out to be Shandras employee, Lils, old boyfriend who went missing decades earlier. Shandra is happy to reconnect with Ryan but she isnt happy that Lil is his prime suspect. Shandra cant help but get involved in the investigation. Can the real murder be found after all this time?
This is the 2nd book but my first experience with this series. I am really happy I gave this book a chance, the mystery works well as a stand-alone book. I will definitely read more from this series. The plot of the book has a great pace and is filled with red herrings to keep you guessing until the end. Along with the great plot, the book has interesting characters, a touch of romance, and a hint of paranormal.
Narrator Ann M. Thompson is a great asset to this book. She has a wonderful voice for the character and really brought them to life. She was easily understood and kept a great pace as a storyteller.
I was given a copy of this book in hopes I would submit a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A buried body leads to adventure
Shandra Higheagle is digging up clay for her artwork when she uncovers the boot and then leg of a long-buried body in Tarnished Remains by Paty Jager. Calling her friend, Detective Ryan Greer, Shandra is happy to reconnect with the man with whom she had felt a connection in her previous encounter with the law. The archaeologists called in to dig up the body determine that the body is that of Johnny, the former boyfriend of Shandra's employee, known to all around as "Crazy Lil." She thought that he had abandoned her when it turns out that he had been dead all this time.
This book comes across as a light mystery but was a delight to listen to. I enjoyed getting to see the solution unfold, partly through the assistance of Shandra's deceased grandmother, who sends her dreams to give her guidance. It is interesting that it is the Irish detective who trusts the dreams more than the half- Native American Shandra. Having been forbidden from knowing about her native heritage by her step-father, Shandra explores her own past and gains a greater knowledge of her own self. I also enjoyed the growing romance between Shandra and Ryan. I appreciated the details of the development of the characters in the book.
Ann M. Thompson performs the audio edition of the book, and I liked the job she does in bringing the book to life.

A clear 5 stars ! A winner of a series with engaging characters and a different perspective than the usual stuff out there.
I got this box set last night and read the whole thing before I went to bed at about 2 a.m. It is up to Larkin's high standards. As usual with her writing, these stories are well-written and thoroughly edited. She writes well and prolifically and always manages to create engaging, believable characters. These are a nice chance from the ghost hunter series, which I love, but the premise of two elderly widows becoming private investigators is a great one. So far, they have avoided love interests, being devoted to their deceased husbands--and the requisite cop is a female detective and family friend , so none of the usual stuff there. That's good!
Fun, great mysteries, wonderful characters, just the right length!
Butterworth Mysteries - Box Set 1 by Gillian Larkin has the first four short story mysteries of the series together in this set. The Butterworth Mysteries are two elderly women who now decide they need something to do to occupy their lonely days and being a PI is their answer. Without any experience or training, they get jobs and start making a name for themselves. A good name. They do well and these are some of the cases. These have great plots, lots of humor, fun, short and enjoyable reads with twists and turns of a full novel. I love to read her books right before bed. They are just the right length. The books are never boring and always satisfying.

Weddings can be murder is the 16th book in the Charlie Parker series and I don't know how Connie Shelton does it, but each book seems to just get better and better.
This story has just the right amount of cozy and suspense. Connie goes back in time with her characters in this story and then at just the right time ties it all together with the present time. I actually didn't want the story to end because it was that good.
The next in the series is Alibis Can Be Murder and I am anxiously waiting for it to show up on Audible.

... read all theses books by Lisa Shea & I like them very much
I've read all theses books by Lisa Shea & I like them very much. I really like series books with the same people in all of them. I would like them to be a bit longer though. They're very short & easy reads.
    They are great stories
And they let me visit places I can't. The zoos are wonderful and I'm enjoying the black market theme that's going through the stories.
informative without sounding like a lecture
Kindle Unlimited, except first one which may be permafree, short stories are about 20 pages each and feature different zoos around the country, one even in key west, and portion of the proceeds benefits battered women's shelters in this case, some of her other books may benefit other charities. Was thinking there was a 6 book set but may be wrong about that, she usually does sets in 10's.Cute without being cutesy, informative without sounding like a lecture.
The Preening Peacock 1 - The Sparkling Sparrow 2 - The Clucking Chicken 3 - The Gargling Giraffe 4 - The Absent Anteater 5 - The Minuscule Mouse 6 - The Swimming Snake 7
    Great Cozy Mystery!
I was asked to beta read this for Lisa and I am glad she asked me to do that. I have read the first story in this series and enjoyed it very much. I liked it even more than the first book and I did not know that was possible.
Once again, we are re-introduced to Rosalinda. Her character is still bubbly and fun but also, she is incredibly smart. She has a passion for animals, and in this book, we see her passion for larger animals. The book is well written, and even though it is short, it makes a nice read for anyone who likes cozy mysteries. I think she is making a great set of mini stories surrounding a strong, powerful woman who cannot be contained by her gender. I am always up for new genres and this sequel did not disappoint. Thank you again, Lisa for allowing me to beta read this for you. I look forward to your next installment.
