Right after she vowed not to snoop into murders anymore. But this killer isn't like the others. This one is a friend with a dark past. A past interwoven with the death of Shelby's father five years ago
Shelby Hartâs dad died five years ago at the beginning of the story. Her Dad was a police officer shot in the line of duty. Every year on this date Shelby and her Mom wonder if the cold case will ever be solved.
Shelby and her finance Heath McLeroy start another day of work around Shady Acres Retirement. Shelby goes into the greenhouse to check on her seedlings when the generator that Alice bought began filling the greenhouse with carbon monoxide and Shelby was found by Heath unconscious.
Enter the newly called Shady Acres Gumshoes, Bob Satchett, boyfriend of Sue Ellen Hart, Ted and Grandma, Cheryl Leroiz, Shelbyâs best friend and her boyfriend Seth, a cop who seems to always be getting Shelby out of trouble.
My favorite is Leory Manning, the resident who is allergic to the sun and only comes out at night. While accidents continue to occur all the residents are around Shelby to protect her.
The secondary story of Shelbyâs Dad gives an additional twist to the story.
    Keep 'em coming
I personally love this series. The characters remain constant, which I like. They become your friends as you read each book. A bit more information comes out with each new book. Keep 'em coming.
Note to author....better proof reading is needed.
    Five Stars
I have loved the whole series. Clean reading with mild sexual content, nothing explicit.

    Cute murder mystery series
I have enjoyed this series and waiting for the next installment. The main character is feisty, funny and smart
    .
The Critic Got a Bad Review
When restaurant critic J.E. Muscovy checks into the Painted Lady Inn, Donna is caught off guard by her attitude. She is very demanding and has the reputation of giving scathing reviews for restaurants everywhere she goes. Donna's friend, Jane, who owns The Croaking Frog, wants to know if the critic is planning to do a review of her restaurant and expects Donna to supply the answer.
Donna tries to follow the critic to the Little Bit of Paris cafe, but loses her. When she finally reaches the cafe, the waitress she speaks with is not sure if the critic was there or not.
The next day, J.E.'s rental car is found abandoned with a body found a short distance away. A purse and driver's license inside the car indicate that the body may be that of the critic and the police are not sure if it is murder or suicide.
Donna is certain that with the critic's attitude, she would not commit suicide. Then when she goes to clean her room, she discovers a note listing four restaurants. This first restaurant is Jane's, The Croaking Frog. The second is Sylvester's Salon, but this one is crossed out for some reason. Sylvester is a former flame who also has a reputation for chasing anything in a skirt. The third is one that relocated from New Orleans following a scandal. The fourth is in another city and does not seem to fit the current picture.
So who killed the critic, Jane Ellen Muscovy? Did she actually commit suicide? Was it her former flame, who recently proposed to his current girlfriend? Maybe it was somebody else who was trying to protect their restaurant's reputation? Or is there more here than meets the eye and does somebody else have a good reason to want the critic dead!
The characters are well-developed and the story has plenty of twists and turns. Once started, the book is hard to put down
Did the mean food critic commit suicide or was it murder?
When a food critic comes to town, all the chefs are a nervous wreck. Donna was "lucky" enough to have J.E. Muscovy come and stay at The Painted Lady Inn Bed and Breakfast.

    another great mystery
this is a cute and well written cozy mystery. the main character finds herself again involved with solving what was ruled as an accidental death but turns out to be a murder. I do look forward to more in this series. I received this book as a free gift through audioboom in exchange for an honest review.
    Good, Clean Mystery.
Where does Sharpe Edge rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
This is a good story. The author makes the characters come alive without resorting to stereo-types. The mystery is well-done. The clues are there all along and the suspenseful ending does not rely on last minute information. The suspects are all plausible. I appreciate that the story is clean. No swearing or sex scenes. Safe for pre-teens.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Deanne, the main character, is a lot of fun. She is nosy, witty, sarcastic and smart, yet kind. I really like the main character, but the other characters are interesting too. I think my favorite has to be the redneck long-lost uncle who answers the door with a shotgun and a pack of dogs. He's a colorful guy.
What about Kelley Hazens performance did you like?
She performs the different characters beautifully. She maintains their unique voices effortlessly throughout the book. She does very believable male voices which is often difficult for female narrators. She brings out the personality of the main character.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
This is an entertaining mystery story. It does not lend itself to touching emotional scenes. There are however, some very tense scenes throughout the book and particularly at the end. The mystery is well-written and well paced. It is suspenseful, but not overly or artificially so. This is a good, solid story.
    Any additional comments?
I received this book for free from the author, narrator, or publisher on Audio Book Boom forum in exchange for a honest review.

    Murder and more murder
This was a cute, fun book. Seems Marla cannot stay out of trouble. Murder seems to follow her around. I look forward to reading more in this series. I have read book 1 and 3 and look forward to going back to read book 2. I received this book free in exchange for an honest review,
    A Stylish Fun Cozy
This is a fun, quirky cozy series. The heroine is Marla a cosmetologist who owns a beauty saloon. She has a way of literally stumbling upon dead bodies. She is divorced from a verbally and emotionally abusive husband and has major commitment issues. Also she has a mission regarding campaigning for pool safety such as locked pool fences and early swimming lessons for children. When she was a young college student her toddler charge escaped from his play pen and fell into and drowned in the backyard pool while she was on the phone. The guilt still plagues her, thus she doesn't want to be a mother or be in charge of children.
The story is good though not quite a full 4 stars but better than three stars, which made it hard for me to rate. The narration however is excellent and made the book.
Also, my mouth started watering when Marla was talking to a friend and making Kugel. I really wish that there was an recipe attachment to the book.
In conclusion, If you like cozies with quirky characters and some fun, then this book would be a great choice.
I received this audiobook at no-cost from Audiobookworm Promotions. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.
    Enjoyable Cozy !
I really enjoyed this mystery, I loved the narration and this certainly made a drive much nicer. I like the interaction between the main character and her "police boyfriend" and I liked that there were a few surprises along the way. It was light yet got the animal testing message in there. I will definately listen to the others of this series.I received this audiobook at no-cost from Audiobookworm Promotions. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.
An entertaining, engaging and comical mystery!
Murder by Manicure is a fast-paced, short comical mystery. As a light mystery, you get the enjoyment of a mystery tossed in with some humor and charm. The story is full of suspense and unplanned explorations. I thought this book was unique and amusing with some unforeseen twists. This is the third book in the series but is definitely a standalone. Not having read the previous books in the series, this book did not have the feeling that I missed anything. They are unique and individual stories.
Mary Ann Jacobs did a good job with the narration. She had a clear and crisp voice that was easy to follow.

    Members Reviews:
A Fun Book to Listen Too.
Maren Swenson Waxenburg did a great job narrating Murder on Pointe. It was a fun to listen to how Fiona kept getting in trouble. Great book to listen too.
    A Murder of a ballerina
In Murder on Pointe by C.S. McDonald, Fiona Quinn goes to the ballet to watch her long-time friend, Silja, perform the lead role in Coppelia as a special doll made by a toy maker played by Fiona and Siljas ballet instructor.
The morning show goes beautifully, after which the friends go to lunch and discuss the conflict among the cast, with several people fighting over important roles. Returning to the theater, the pair find one of the lead dancers murdered, struck from behind with a heavy object. A homicide detective, Nathan Landry, comes to the theater, and Fiona finds him very attractive. Then, at 3 a.m., Detective Landry brings Silja to Fionas house after someone has attacked Silja in a manner similar to the attack on the murdered ballerina in the theater garage. Concerned that someone is targeting ballerinas, Detective Landry asks Fiona to go undercover for him as a ballerina, despite the fact that Fiona has not danced in years after a skiing accident that cut short her ballet career.
This book was an enjoyable light read. The setting of a ballet is one Ive never come across in a mystery, but it did not require any understanding of the style of dance. It allowed me a nice chance to have a casual cute read. The one incongruity is the references to Fionas ghost grandmother who helps her out. That supernatural element doesnt fit in with the rest of the book, which is natural. Then it gets silly and ridiculous.
Maren Swenson Waxenberg narrates the audio edition of this book. While sufficient, the performance did not especially impress me. She reads the book with much less expression than typical audiobook readers, and the words seem to run together, in particular with very little pause between sentences. The performance detracted from the story too. I almost gave up on the book when I started it because the narration didnt appeal to me, but Im glad I stuck with it because the book was a nice read, though I did not like the ending.
I enjoyed Murder on Pointe for the most part, as it kept me entertained. But I did not find the ending very satisfying. The behavior of the murderers seemed unrealistic, and Fionas behavior towards the criminals was pretty farfetched.

    Not exceptional
    animals, pets, murder, law-enforcement, cozy-mystery
The publisher's blurb is somewhat informative but rather misleading. There seems to be an abundance of suspects and red herrings, but it moves a bit slowly for my taste.
Erin deWard does a respectable job as narrator.
    Thanks for keeping me guessing.
Very well done for such a short listen. I didn't solve the mystery before the characters. Good character development for an ensemble cast with a few leads. I am more of a cat person but grew up with both cats and dogs. I really like the use of the dogs and their personalities. nice resolution with the dogs as well. Good stand alone story.
    Such a great series!!
I love the Cedar Bay Cozy Mystery Series by Dianne Harman! Trouble at the Animal Shelter was again narrated by Erin deWard, and she did a fabulous job! The only problem is that I've listened to all of the available audiobooks by Dianne Harman on Audible. What's a girl supposed to do now?!? I tried to stretch this one out so it would last longer, but I loved it so much that I'm afraid my plan didn't work too well. :-( I highly recommend this audiobook to lovers of cozy mysteries, as well as to dog lovers everywhere! Lucky for me, I am both.
Each book in the series is a stand alone, full mystery, so in reality, you could read/listen to just this book and enjoy it....BUT, in my opinion, you should start at the beginning. Starting with Book 1 will make your listening experience that much more enjoyable. Each series by Dianne Harman is so well-written. While I love all of them, The Cedar Bay Cozy Mystery Series is my absolute favorite.

From critically acclaimed author Susan C. Shea comes the first novel in an upmarket cozy mystery series set in France.

Earns 5/5 Glasses of Chateauneuf du Pape!
Would you consider the audio edition of Love & Death in Burgundy to be better than the print version?
Better? Nothing can be take away from Susan C. Shea's entertaining story and creation of a wonderful world of characters, but my reading the print version on my own did not do her creativity full justicethe audio version does! I experience what Susan Shea hoped to provide for her readers. I HEAR the different accents and dialects that define and develop the characters. I HEAR the fears, worries, and joys of the events...it is a wonderful way to enjoy Susan Shea's story.
What other book might you compare Love & Death in Burgundy to and why?
Well, looking beyond the mystery, I compare this story to my all-time favorite, Peter Mayle's books starting with "A Year in Provence." The conflicts with an ex-pat living in France, efforts to insinuate an outsider into the community, learning about the history of the area, exploring the countryside, and getting involved with some very quirky people all reminded me of Peter Mayle's trilogy about his ex-pat time living alongside the French.
Which character as performed by Suzanne Toren was your favorite?
First, Suzanne Torens voice artistry is brilliant with such entertaining variations of the Americans, some with southern drawls, varying French dialects from mild to strong, and German and British accents. She easily moved from male to female and young to elderly characters greatly enhancing my enjoyment. But my favorite character is Mme Pomfort. Suzanne was able to capture her
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Of course...dinner was horribly late the first afternoon I started listening. One hour...two hours...four hours in, I couldn't put it on pause. I finished the book in three days, though, only because I really had chores I couldn't put off. It is a delightful adventure!
    Any additional comments?
I am a serious FrancophileFrench wines, soaps, cheesekisses? And now I can add to that list Susan C. Sheas French Village Mystery series. The mystery is very engaging with all the possible scenarios, and I hung on every clue to uncover what happened: accident or murder? Each character is rich and developed from the varied ex-pats to upstanding and shady French villagers; add some Germans and a Brit and Susan has her own EU.

Inspired by her past sleuthing successes, Juliet Langley has officially joined the ranks of Nashville's licensed private investigators. Her best friend, Pete Bennett, doesn't worry that her detective work might interfere with her full-time job running his coffeehouse, Java Jive. He just wishes she would spend her free time rejoining the local music scene instead of tailing cheating spouses. But when one of Java Jive's baristas, Shane, asks Juliet to look into the suspicious death of his fiancée, Pete encourages her to plow full steam ahead.
Since his fiancée died on the job, Shane suspects that her party-planning colleagues are up to something criminal - and will do anything to keep it quiet. After Juliet recruits Pete to go undercover with her at a wedding showcase, she discovers that white lace and black satin have a way of hiding big, fat secrets.
If that weren't enough to fill her plate, her latest P.I. job has her crossing paths with her ex, Detective Ryder Hamilton. They're barely on speaking terms, but to solve the case, they might have to cooperate. No matter where Juliet goes, she's brewing up trouble.
