The Lucky Cat is the second entry in the Salem Massachusetts Mini Mystery series. The start of this series is The Lucky Cat. You can listen to them one-by-one if you wish, or you can listen to them bundled into collections. All author's proceeds from this series benefit battered women's shelters.
Lisa has lived in scenic Massachusetts since 1986, with only two brief forays out of state. One of Lisa's ancestors was Ann Foster, who died during the Salem Witch Trials. Ann Foster was a grandmother by that time and sacrificed herself to protect her daughter and granddaughter. Ann had been born in England, came over in 1635, and was 75 by the time of the trials. Salem reached its dark depths during those trials from 1692-1693 - but since then has healed, blossomed, and shines. It now features the amazing Peabody Essex Museum, a plethora of gorgeous historic architecture, and a beautiful coastline. It's well worth a visit. If you can't go in person, take a virtual trip through Lisa's firsthand descriptions!

A somewhat promising start, but not a compelling read
I've now read two books in this series. I really wanted to like them. The covers are cute, and I'm very familiar with the location.
However, I felt as if the first two stories were rushed, loaded with cliches, and -- except that these books are so short -- I just didn't care enough about the characters to want to see how each book concluded.
It's not that I _didn't_ like it... I just prefer a more compelling read. For me, the first and second books in this series didn't deliver. I bought the third one, but can't muster enough interest to open the virtual cover.
However, I don't want to dismiss this book as dismal. It's not. As a first mystery series by an author arriving from another, longer genre, the writing is okay. I may revisit this author's cozy mysteries when she's written another dozen or so. Or, she may do better with a book length that gives her more time to develop characters, settings, and plots.
Even as a quick, shallow read, this book disappointed me. The writing shows some promise, but it has a long way to go.
~~Periwinkle and Poison~~
Zoe Starlander believes she is being poisoned by Joe, her ex-boyfriend. Zoe is 22 and the picture of health and most flamboyant. Our intrepid PI, Kathy takes the case and she is off to the bar where Joe works.
I like the fact that a flower plays a starring role in this volume. I also am glad that the proceeds of these books go to local battered women's shelters.
Highly recommended.
A very good book, highly captivating for the reader.
I have read now the second book of this series "Black Cat". These books are great and I will continue to read the third book. I am not an English native and is difficult for me to understand all the slang from other books here on Amazon, but this book I could easily read in one hour. In my opinion this author could be as good as Lee Child (whose books are no.1 on Amazon now) if these short books would be just a bit longer (about 30-40 pages instead of 12).
