Chosen of Nandawen, book 2
Hand of the Hunter: Chosen of Nendawen, Book IIis the second book in the Trilogy, The Chosen of Nendawen by author Mark Sehestedt. This novel is broken into three parts, two of which occur in the present and in the Giantspire mountains and one in the Hunting Lands/Feywild. Part one sets the stage with the main character, Hweilan's long lost "love" come searching with his half-brother and trusty lieutenant. Part two involves the training of Hweilan and her shaping into the Hand the demi-God Nendawen needs to destroy his ancient enemy, Jagun Ghen. Hweilan must learn the Lore, she must learn to Know and she must learn to Hunt. Hweilan is succesfull and manages to learn all three though not without leaving behind the little girl in Highwatch and becoming the Huntress, cold, beautifull and unforgiving. Parte de trois details really who Hweilan has become. During this time she puts all her training into action by saving the lover who never was and meeting up with her old friend, Menduarthis. Hweilan is tested near the end, and fails, causing her to truly come to terms with herself and steeling herself for what she must do, in the next novel of course. (Last sentance is spoiler free so it may not make much sense in context.)
Pros:
1. Hweilan is a major pro in this book as you can truly see her transformation into the warrior huntress that is needed to defeat Jagun Ghen.
2. Prejudice is present in part three of this novel and though a small part of the novel, gives it character.
Cons:
1. Part two of this novel is a con purely because of its length. It is much too long! I would've liked for it to be shorter and more to the point, with more detail in part three, thought I do aknowledge Mr. Sehestdet's use of this part as Hweilan's transformative period.
All in all, this was a good second volume in Mr. Sehestdet's trilogy,
Becoming the Hand of the Hunter
Foreword: This review was written after having read the whole trilogy.
Scenario: While the book does begin with Hweilan fighting against Nar and a daemon, to save some unexpected people, this book is primarily about Hweilan becoming the Hand of Nendawen.
Cast: Hweilan, a group of nobles investigating the fall of Highwatch, the real of Nendawen, and the daemons themselves.
Storyline: As already mentioned this book is more about Hweilan becoming the Hand of Nendawen in the Feywild. Thus the majority of the book is about the trials she had to go through to become the hand of a primordial being. As to be expected, it is neither pleasant nor sane.
