I felt drawn into the stiry
Nice cover artwork, I could visualize the lions pride and was engrossed until the end. Worthwhile read
    good book worth the read
When I was initially given a copy of this book by my friend I was skeptical. Iâd never heard of the writer and from the premise I couldnât help but think âThe Lion Kingâ. I almost didnât give it a chance and I would have missed out on an excellent read. Itâs an injustice for anyone to overlook this story and pass it off before giving it a chance. Between its dark backstory and a sacrifice to save oneâs family it hits close to home and provide a good outlook on redemption and perseverance despite how the book ends (no spoilers here). This isnât your typical fantasy novel.
    Very enjoyable book
This is a very enjoyable book. It has some strong christian undertones, but I think this would be seen as a plus by a lot of people.
I think its a nice and enjoyable childrens book
    SOO GOOD!
An interesting tale of prince taunted by a demon while dark forces rise to claim him and his family. This novel belongs among such writers as David Clemence-Davies and Erin Hunter as it is told from the eyes of animals, despite the interactions with humans. Somewhat a niche book but very intriguing. A must read for anyone who loves to read or are fans of the Warriors Series or even The Sight and Fell.
    Unique fantasy quest
Very unique story. None of the usual tropes. Good character development.

    Publisher's Summary:
Winner of Best Audio Drama, BBC Audio Drama Awards, 2013. Winner of Speculative Fiction, Parsec Award, 2013.
The Minister of Chance is a wildly exciting, picaresque fantasy adventure and a brilliant, Swiftian satire on politics and religion. It boasts Hollywood production values, an orchestral score and a staggeringly accomplished cast: Jenny Agutter, Jed Brophy, Lauren Crace, Paul Darrow, Philip Glenister, Tamsin Greig, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, and the beautifully inflected Julian Wadham as the titular minister.
Originally made on an overdraft, the remaining episodes were funded by fans who turned this groundbreaking radiophonic masterpiece into a multiaward-winning cult phenomenon.
A world not our own: Ambassador Durian of the technologically advanced nation of Sezuan is sent to talk peace with the King of the medieval backwater nation of Tanto. However, the King rebuffs Durian's overtures of friendship, and things take a turn for the very, very sinister.
At a nearby inn, barmaid Kitty's routine of fighting, abusing customers, and avoiding personal hygiene is disrupted by the arrival of a cloaked stranger. Her routine is further disrupted when she follows him into the forest, through a ghostly doorway, over the frost bridge between worlds, and into an adventure encompassing invasions, machiavellian political scheming and conversations with frog gods at the entrance to the Underworld.
Put on your headphones, and spend your next commute in another world. You won't want to leave.

    Audio needs balancing desperately!
I really wanted to love this. The cast of actors that are part of this is amazing. First, realize this is an audio series, not a book. Imagine the radio dramas of days gone by. I had some difficulty following the story line with such a huge cast of characters, many of whose voices were confusing. I couldn't always tell who was talking. And if I had a drink for every time Kitty says "Oy!" I would be too drunk to write this post. But my biggest complaint is how loud the background sounds were, frequently making it hard to understand the actors and proving very distracting. Ok, we got it, they're by a stream, you can turn down the volume on the running water a bit. I found the ambient sounds and music so loud and distracting I had to force myself to listen at times.

    great start
Would you listen to The Shootout Solution again? Why?
no, since doesn't really add much to second listen
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
traveling through book genres. least interesting is visiting only one genre at a time.
Which character as performed by Mary Robinette Kowal was your favorite?
    I like the lead
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
. No, I paced it out
    Starts weak, gets better
The opening almost lost me, but it hit a stride halfway through. I can't help but think the author chose the wrong protagonist: it would've been better if he had the main character be from a genre world, stumbling through the curtain and forced to a Platonic realization. Leah is certainly likable, but her introduction feels artificial and forced.
Narrator is good enough when voicing the women, but I found her male voices distracting. She shouldn't try to go so low on them; would be better if she let her voice stay higher, but opened her vocal chords more for a broader sound.
    Amateur night
Sorry to be such a downer but the only good thing I can put for this is that it was only about three hours long.
Though a clever story I think that maybe only someone who has a career in writing may enjoy this as the references to technical aspects of writing permeated this entire work and were not at all disguised- but that was obviously what the book is based around.
Also no offense to the voice actor, but she can't pull off any of the male voices. It was painful to listen to. Way too forced - sounds like she is trying for an octave too low without actually becoming lower only ducking a chin in and putting out a chest while simply talking slower.
    Needlessly drenched in SJW sauce.
What disappointed you about The Shootout Solution?
It was an interesting idea, but the efforts the author took to make sure that every SJW check box was hit was almost comical. The shoehorning of any possible SJW cause de jour got in the way of telling the story.
Would you ever listen to anything by Michael R. Underwood again?
    Not likely.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Mary Robinette Kowal?
Narration was fine, not Kramer or Lang, but good.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
It was like a pretty good meal that had a a quarter inch of salt poured on top of it.
    Any additional comments?
I expect the story to be in the running for a Hugo this year.

How can the Spider, harried and threatened by 100 new and deadly perils, check the rising power of the next dictator - and lay bare the scheming, criminal mind that seeks to enslave the nation?

In "Empire of Doom", Richard Wentworth, still early in his 10-year career as the arachnid-inspired defender of humanity, takes on the gravest challenge he has yet faced. A faceless terrorist calling himself the Green Hand has unleashed a corrosive gas on the lumber town of Elkhorn, Michigan, killing its inhabitants - by stripping the living meat from their bones! His next victim will be another Michigan hamlet. And this unknown monster vows to keep snuffing out entire cities until Washington pays him a $5 billion ransom.
But the Green Hand has reckoned without another powerful force: the Spider! Rising to the challenge, the master of men rushes to prevent a wave of tragedy unrivaled in American history. It does not go well. When Richard Wentworth is captured by the authorities, and both his fiancée and his mentor, Nita van Sloan and Professor Brownlee, are captured as well, who will protect the people then?

Nick Santa Maria provides the stupefying answers through his thrilling narration. Originally published in The Spider magazine, February 1934.

    Nice violent pulp story
This is an exciting pulp story but it didn't grab me like other pulp stories have. There was too much in this story that I couldn't get past. I felt that at times it dragged and at other times I couldn't suspend my disbelief. I especially felt that the ending was a little too pat. Also, the mystery surrounding who is the Green Hand was pretty easy to solve. Still, if you like exciting, violent pulp stories then you may want to try this one. It included a short story at the end that I thought was better than the main one.
    The Spider saves the day.
The Spider must stop a horrible green gas spreading across the country, I'm not going to tell you what happens you'll have to find out for yourself, in this exciting story, of a madman who wants to rule the world.
Empire of doom the spider strikes
I wish we had the spider now he is a tough customer he attacks the terriost head on the empire of doom is one the best of the spider books!

3.45/5 Decent start to a much wider tale
Summary: A girl gets visions of the future and finds herself at the center of dangerous political games.
    Additional Comments:
No ending. The end is more like the ent of Act 1. Large portions of the story are therefore unresolved.
Characters are okay. Maea's powers are cool. I loved Princess Sabine.
Plot kind of meandered. The beginning didn't make much sense. Johai and the lady stole her memories? Why?
The thing with the handsome prince didn't seem to make much sense either. One second she's appalled by his casual sex with a lady during a party. And the next she's inextricably attracted to him.
The end twist was decently handled.
Conclusion: The beginning of a much longer tale that doesn't really hold up on its own, but if you're willing to read the whole trilogy, it offers a lot of magic and political intrigue.
*I received a free copy of the audio version, please excuse the spelling. I chose to review the book.
    Diviner's Prophecy
This is book 1 in a trilogy and cannot be read as a standalone. There are many questions left unanswered at the end of Book 1. At parts I found the story slow and the characters weak. The political intrigue however is good. The narrration overall was okay but monotone at parts. Overall I found it to be an ok read
    Diviner's prophecy.
This book is not really for me. I picked it because I have read other books by this author which I really liked so I thought I will give this a go. But unfortunately I found it slow, confusing at times and some silly decisions are made in certain places.
The narrator I thought did a great job.
    Others might like this book.

    Above average Epic Fantasy
What did you love best about Age of the Seer?
I loved the world building in this fantasy. There was a lot imaginative creation and it told a good story.
What did you like best about this story?
The characters are unique. I found it interesting. The mystery of the political intrigue and the plight of the slave was entertaining. I was curious how everything was going to tie up in the end.
What does Richard Evert bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
His character voices were intriguing and entertaining. For instance if I tried to read the dwarf speech, I'm not sure I would have understood it as well as he delivered. Overall well done. Would like to hear more with him narrating.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. it is very detailed oriented, and would have been far too much to read or listen to all in one sitting.
    Any additional comments?
I am curious to see where this series goes.
Not bad but the Narrator needs practice
    Any additional comments?
The constant stumbling of the narrator made it a challenge to enjoy the book. I ended up just reading the book my self.
You'll read this book over and over
The Epic of Ahiram is a rich story of adventure, fate, and magic. The interconnectedness and vibrance of Ahiram's world and the fullness of its characters captivates readers pulling them all the way in. You won't be able to put it down.
    Do Not Buy As Audiobook.
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I know I'm going to sound petty, but I could not get 8 minutes into this book listening to the narrator.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Didn't finish. Bought the text version and I will be giving that a go.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Richard Evert?
Almost anyone. He really ruined this one for me. His halting delivery, the voices he gave to the characters and what I felt was a dead-pan performance stopped me in my tracks. I could not get in to the book. I did not give it a chance. I deleted it.
I bought the text version and I'm sure I'll enjoy it that way.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
    Sure.
    Any additional comments?
Please do not waste money or a credit on the audio version. Buy the text version if you are going to give it a try.
Refreshing Take on Epic - lots of Fun!
There is a surprising number of laugh out loud moments, with the author clearly having a taste of 'random' humour.
Interesting array of characters, with good description and lots of well paced action and adventure.

    Good story
    Any additional comments?
I was given this book for free for my honest review. The story itself was pretty good but I didn't care for the narration which makes or breaks an audible book. I didn't feel like he did a great job of switching voices and I had a hard figuring out who was who. Overall the book was good and I am happy I took the time to listen to it.

This audiobook alternates between the survival stories of several people after a virus decimates the world's population. Most people are either dead or have turned into "Moaners" (zombies).
This is the same storyline that almost every zombie novel adheres to; at least that is what I thought at first.
Then comes the twist. Several survivors have one thing in common and that trait may just be the key to humanity's survival.
There are problems however. The survivors may be able to either outrun or outgun the Moaners, but what about other survivors?
It is unfortunate, but there is one universal truth that is highlighted in apocalyptic fiction. Not unfortunate that it is included in the story, but because it is so realistic. That truth is that there are always people who will exploit any situation to their own personal benefit. This is as true in real life as it is in fiction. You need only to look at the price gouging that took place after Hurricane Katrina to find a real-life example of this concept.
Each section or chapter of this book focuses on a specific survivor. My favourite parts were those that told the story of Max and Rocky. Max is a pre-teen and out of necessity he has had to grow up almost overnight. Fortunately for him, his dog Rocky is his constant companion. It is impossible as a parent not to root for the child to survive.
