Well, thought I would try to record one last set for 2016, and a 138 BPM mix seemed appropriate for the Happy Holidays and Year End, so here it is!!! I honestly wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to pull this off because I have spent much of this month recovering in bed from some surgery I had at the beginning of Dec, which has been a very painful process, but just managed to get well enough in time to be able to stand and record on my gear for this set (which turned out to be a long one of course, Doh!).. I was hoping I might have it ready before New Year’s Eve, but I am happy that I was able to finish it by Christmas so anyone who likes my mixes can enjoy some uplifting and heart pumping Trance over the holiday weekend. Anyway, 2016 was a very good and bad year for me in a lot of ways, so happy to have experienced it, but stoked to be moving onto 2017 and hopefully an excellent year for us all. A lot of incredible brand new Trance on this one, starts off a little harder than usual, but gradually settles into that euphoric sound I love so much, with a couple of well-placed vocal tracks that I guarantee will send chills down your spine like a winter breeze haha!! Brand new!! Once again I was beyond honored to be on the opening roster for one of those gargantuan names in Trance, a true pioneer and contributor to the formation of the Trance genre in the early years, one of the founders of NU-NRG with all of their classic Trance hits from the late 90’s that Trance enthusiasts hold so near and dear, and so much more between then and now, Italian DJ/Producer mega-force, GIUSEPPE OTTAVIANI. This was such a special show for many reasons: it was the night before Thanksgiving holiday here in the US, so "Trancegiving Eve" (haha) as we called it, it was a few days before my Birthday, it was at the Underground in Seattle which is such a memorable place to see these big Trance stars perform up close because of the intimacy of a smaller venue vs. the giant festival arenas they ordinarily play at, plus Giuseppe is one of those rare and super talented Producers who prefers to compose the majority of his sets live with a huge array of electronic music gear on the stage rather than just “DJ” like most everyone else, which makes each show a unique and one-of-a-kind experience, truly an amazing, EPIC night in Seattle!! Giuseppe was incredibly humble and nice, so polite, and a genuinely friendly guy, and it was a true honor to meet him after all these years of being a fan. I was first up that night so set out to create a nice ambient start and mellow build into a euphoric "wall-of-sound" vibe that I had so much fun playing, plus I had so much great and brand new material to work with from some of my favorite Trance artists to help set the mood for the eve. It seems I have been on a 138 BPM kick lately, and to add to the ever-expanding “DJ Gotek repertoire of 138 BPM mixes” I finally got around to recording this earlier in the week on Monday, August 15, 2016, after several weeks of delay due to business travel for my “real job” (haha)! This one was a lot of fun and I was able to cross a few more of my favorite EPIC classics from yesteryear off my bucket list to use in a mix; this time I even busted out my old Trance vinyl collection and the Technics turntables to add in some very vintage and rare tracks straight from vinyl, which was a load of fun as well, although you may hear some scratches and pops due to the years-old & well-played vinyl plus it’s so hard to get the levels to sound right with this really old Trance compared to the super high-fidelity new production stuff, of which there are some incredible just released spine-tingly and highly euphoric CHOONS on here as well. From the classics side I kicked it off with one of my favorite long-lost tracks from the early days of Trance on vinyl, the eternally awesome Super8 Remix of Aurora’s “Sleeping Satellite”, and also included Thrillseeker’s incredible remix of “Can You Feel” by Sholan, plus a recent insane remake of Goldenscan’s "Only With You", and end it off with the timeless and haunting "Choose Freedom" by Ultravibe, all of which are many, many years old now, and names you probably have not heard in a while, or perhaps even EVER haha, and it's all just as good all these years later!!! This one also features the brand new epic release from Swedish Trance powerhouse Bjorn Akesson ("Paper Dreams"), whom I am honored to be opening for in Seattle this month at the Underground on Friday, Aug 26, SOOOO EXCITED about this one!!! Lastly I would have to say Aimoon’s brand new release "Thunderbolt" is probably my very favorite track on the mix, or is it Alex M.O.R.P.H. and "Sunset Boulevard"?? Hard to say.. but needless to say there is all sorts of incredible stuff on this 84 minute behemoth of Hi-NRG Melodic Trance action to help you finish off the sunny days of summer. Brand new 138 BPM TRANCE demo set for you!! This one has some brighter summery sounds and features an assortment of incredible and euphoric just-released stuff, plus a few EPIC CLASSICS that seemed to fit the mix perfecty.. I recorded this on the afternoon of Sunday, July 10, and have been pretty excited about this one for a while because A.) there seems to be an uptick of jaw-droppingly gorgeous 138 BPM stuff getting released lately, which I am ecstatic about and just proves that Trance is NOT DEAD (so there, Tiesto!!!) haha), B.) there has also been a recent resurgence of remakes of some of the epic classic oldies (like I’m talking 15-20 years) from the likes of the Trance Masters of yesteryear such as Forerunners, Darren Tate a.k.a. DT8, Kyau & Albert, to name a few, and C.) I have been searching for a CD that I thought I had lost for YEARS (literally)of a rare remix back from 2002 of an incredible track, Svenson & Gielen ft. Jan Johnston – Beachbreeze (Spacediver remix), which I had discovered in the earlier days of Trance when I was still learning the sounds that I was most attracted to, so I was so sad that I thought I had lost this incredibly uplifting track forever.. At long last and to my surprise I finally found it by accident a few weeks ago in a box of old CD’s in the garage, so this is the track that inspired the concept of this mix, and with which I kicked everything off to celebrate it's return to my collection.. All these years later it still massively sends chills down my spine, but then again, quite a few tracks on this set do that!! On Saturday, July 2nd, 2016, I had the honor of being invited down to play at a show called DEEP & PROGRESSIVE at the Whiskey Bar in Portland, OR, which I have played at before many times, and each time I am totally thrilled because the people who come out to the shows there are typically great Trance fans with a lot of “Trance Fam” vibes and support for the DJ’s, both local and all the huge headliners they bring through there as well, plus it has a super rockin’ sound system so it feels so great to feel this music resonate with your bones haha!! This particular night was on 4th of July weekend (a big holiday in the US) so it was unknown what kind of a crowd the show would draw due to people traveling etc, but ended up having an awesome core crowd including people down from Seattle (including me!) and also all the way from Las Vegas there to see some good Trance, which was totally appreciated and awesome!!! My set that night was a little later in the evening so it was a bit more energetic later on than the title of the show would indicate, plus it was 30 minutes longer than I was originally told so the last 30 minutes was more ad-hoc but fortunately I always show up with plenty of music to play for many hours if needed so it all worked out great and it was a super fun night for me to play. I had some great brand-new and spine-tingly stuff to play, plus pulled in some gems from some of my more recent sets towards the end. Special thanks (as usual) to my good friend and DJ buddy, Zoxy, who is a local Portland Trance celeb and promoter of many of these shows I play at down there, and also props to a new-comer to the Portland scene, Jinxxie, for her high-energy and fun selection of late-night Hard-Trance that kept the dance floor full and pumping until close. On Friday, June 17th, I was honored to have been invited to play alongside some of Seattle finest Progressive House and Trance DJ’s. Eric Weber, a.k.a. “WEB”, Jason LeMaitre, Alex Henkens, a.k.a. “Frequent Flyer Miles”, and Tony Apfelbeck, ½ of “Cartographer”, at a unique show call “SLIGHTLY CHILLED” that was meant to be a more laid-back and classy eve with wine tasting during the earlier cocktail hours and gradually progressing into more Progressive Trance later in the night. I had the 12:15-1 am time-slot so my set was perhaps not as “chilled” as the earlier sets in order to maintain the energy and keep people on the dancefloor, but as usual it was a super fun night to play and an awesome group of friends and fans of the music that turned out for the show. I had some great tracks selected which included a few tracks from my recent “Somewhere Over Ibiza” demo which hadn’t been played (by me) in front of a live audience yet, plus some brand-new releases that I just love. I hope that you enjoy the set, and as usual thank you for the support!!! On a much more somber note, albeit none of us realized at the time of the show, this ended up being the last night for a friend of all of ours and well-known fellow Seattle DJ who was loved by many, who passed away the following day after a long and brutal battle against cancer. He was only 32. I dedicate this set to Erik Anderson; you will be missed dearly sir, Godspeed.

On the eve of Tuesday, May 14th, I finally got around to forcing myself to record a chill and progressivy semi-Balearic beach-themed demo mix that I entitled "Somewhere Over Ibiza", a mix that I had been planning and working on for probably 6 months or more. It all starts with an idea, and by the time I recorded this the entire mix had probably been abolished and re-worked something like 7 or 8 times, and most of the original tracks that inspired the mix in the first place didn’t end up making the final cut as it turned out (happens a lot actually). One of the reasons it took so long is I really wanted this to be (in my opinion) the perfect chill out ambient mix, and I kept coming across better and better tracks that I fell in love with, and the track list of “MUST HAVE'S” grew and grew until it was impossibly long, so I had to pain-stakenly go through and whittle it down to just 17 tracks, which was actually 3-4 tracks longer than I intended, but I believe that these are all exquisite, dreamy, spine-tingly, beautiful, gorgeous tracks of equal quality throughout, and that you will enjoy, hopefully multiple times! I set out to record a set that had a chill, beachy and/or "summer twilight on the terrace or poolside" vibe, not all necessarily the quintessential “Balearic” approved quality with the cliché acoustic guitar riffs etc, definitely some straight Progressive House and even a bit of Progressive Trance in there to keep things interesting and on the euphoric side, but I made sure all the tracks sounded great together, were in key, and offered a very gradual build and then tapered off into a chill-out remix of one of my all-time favorite tracks that I always need to include some iteration of in any beach-themed mix, Mike Foyle’s eternally beautiful piano version of “Shipwrecked”. Also, to enhance the beach ambiance I have added some recorded samples of tropical nature, birds, and the surf from various exotic beaches from around the world by plugging in my iPhone to the mixer in an unused channel and bringing in the sounds at opportune times to enhance the music. Lastly, just had a few new Voice ID Tags made and inserted by my beloved sound producer, Chris Dececio in the UK, as a finishing touch. On Sat, May 7th, Seattle had one of its first large-scale 100% purely Trance festival-style shows at WaMu Theater called “BLISS, The Awakening”, which drew over 10,000 Trance fans out on an epic day of beautiful NW sunshine and gorgeous summery weather for an incredible night of Trance. I was very honored to be invited to join a rare collection of NW Trance and Progressive DJ’s from Seattle and up from Portland for an *unofficial* (not put on by promoters of Bliss) after-party called AFTERGLOW at a club a few blocks away from the Bliss show, called the Underground. The DJ’s included Gabe Spiel (10-Midnight), Chris Paape (Midnight-1:30am), DJ Gotek (me, 1:30-2am), DJ Zoxy (2-2:30am), Marc Pospisil a.k.a. MarQ (2:30-3:00), Jose Hernandez, (3-3:30am), and Bobby Lilly a.k.a. Digital Ascension, wrapping it up from 3:30-4am. All I can say is, WOWW, WHAT A NIGHT!!!!! It was a little sketchy at first because everyone was at Bliss and it was unclear whether we would get much of a crowd, but as Bliss was winding down the Underground began filling up, and by the time the clock struck 1:30 am when I was just going on there was a steady stream of ravers and Trance fans all dressed up in their finest Trance gear and lights flowing onto the dance floor, and by the time I handed off to Zoxy the club was PACKED with a huge line going all the way down the street, everyone was in such great spirits, so many hugs and smiles and happy faces and hands reaching out in the blinding light, it all went by in a blur, it was yet again a night I will never, ever forget. I only had 30 minutes so made sure to shoot for the stars and played some brand new stuff mixed with a blend of a few tracks from my recent 138 Trance demos that deserved to be played in front of a dancefloor and not just on a demo mix, and ended off with my favorite Trance track of all time, “Northern Lights” by Smith & Pledger, can almost cry whenever I hear this track, and to see people jumping up and down when I played it, man, chiiiilllllllsssss doesn’t even come close….. On Friday, April 22nd, I was truly honored to be on the opening line-up for world-renown Trance Pioneer, Record Producer, and DJ from the UK, SOLARSTONE, at the Sounds of Trance show at the Underground, Seattle. This was one of those times where I had to make sure I wasn’t dreaming because I have been a fan of Solarstone and the Pure Trance show for such a long time, some of my very earliest Trance CD’s in the 90’s were Solarstone, and to get to play on the same stage and actually meet him was just a dream-come-true for me. I also got to spin with two of my good buddies, Erik Anderson, a.k.a. BEEFER, as well as the promoter of the show, Marc Pospisil, a.k.a. MARQ, so it was a totally awesome night from beginning to end. I only had 45 minutes for this one so tried to lay down some reasonably chill and uplifting tracks to set the stage for Solarstone, but I got a lot of pats on the back, hugs and handshakes afterwards, which is always so appreciated.
