  • #121 Overweight to Ultrarunner // Caleb Sherrill

Caleb Sherrill wasn’t always an ultrarunner. In fact, he used to be about twice the size he is now. Struggling with weight, anxiety and depression, Caleb decided it was time to take matters into his own hands. He is now an athlete for RODS (Racing for Orphans with Down Syndrome) and has a big year of racing on the calendar. Get inspired!

  • #120 Be. That. Person. with Collette Schoenegge
I’m excited, this is a really cool episode I think everyone is going to love. My friend Collette just wrote a book called Be. That. Person. It’s not where you live, but how much confetti you throw along the way. Well, Collette is That Person! I was so excited to catch up with her and hear all about her life, her writing and of course, her dogs!  She is coming up in just a minute. DO BIG THINGS Collette!

  • #119 Two Time Leadman Champ / Larry DeWitt
Welcome back to the DO BIG THINGS podcast! I am here to inspire you, week after week with heroic tails from the trails. I’ve got a banger here for you this week, this one got me right in the feels. Larry DeWitt has too many races and accomplishments to list here but a couple of them include Tour Divide finisher in 2018 as well as the Leadman champion in 2006 and 2009. If you know anything about the endurance world, that says a lot right there. However, Larry grew up in a dysfunctional family where he was a juvenile delinquent, a high school dropout and periodically homeless. Sounds like two different people, right? Luckily, Larry was able to flip the script at an early age and went back to high school, ran cross country, graduated honor roll, enlisted into the army and eventually earned himself three different degrees. This is another incredible story you won’t want to miss.

  • #118 Be Brave, Be Strong with Jill Homer
Jill Homer not only has fifty some odd ultramarathons under her belt, she has completed some of the biggest and baddest bike races, including the Iditarod Invitational 1,000 mile bike race across Alaska.  This race encounters temperatures from -50F to 35F, gale force winds, rain, blizzards, waist-deep snow, mud, glare ice and bright sunny skies - all in the same day.  Jill set the women's record!  She's also been known to write about her adventures, she's published six books. That's what I'm talking about!  You're going to love this conversation.  Find Jill at www.jilloutside.com.  DO BIG THINGS Jill!

  • #116 MOUNT EVEREST 2022 with Jason Howell
When talking with my friend Jason Howell, it seemed like he had packed a few different lives into his 38 years.  From the Marine’s to the Green Berets to the Moab 240, it’s safe to say that Jason’s Life Resume is packed full of adventure.  He’s about to take on his biggest project yet, Mount Everest!  He is raising money for a nonprofit supporting greenberetracing.org.  Jason will be climbing and summiting Mount Everest without the use of supplemental oxygen in an effort to bring awareness to the fallen service members of our country and the hidden issues of PTSD and suicide.  His goal is to raise $25,000.  You can support him at givingtuesday.mightycause.com.  Support this man and his mission!

  • #115 Trails of Recovery with William "Boxcar" Curry
My guest this week, William “Boxcar” Curry takes one step at a time towards progress and recovery. After a hard life of following around the Grateful Dead and hopping trains all over the country, Boxcar eventually gave up the hard drinking and hard drugs for simply putting one foot in front of the other. He discovered walking which led to hiking which led to long distance thru-hikes. He’s hiked some of the biggest trails in the US and now he’s even dipping his toes into the ultramarathon world. He is the founder of Trails of Recovery where he helps others get and stay sober through the power of movement. The power of one step at a time. I apologize for the sound quality of this episode, we did the best we could with this one. I hope to have Ol Boxcar back on the show at some point to make up for it.

  • #114 From Thru-Hiker to Blood Rock 100 WINNER / Tara Dower

I’ve got another outstanding up and comer on this week’s show. Tara Dower aka Candy Mama has been thru-hiking some of the bigger trails for years now, including the AT as well as the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. Eventually that led to some FKT’s and now she’s transitioning into ultramarathons. With a big win at Blood Rock 100 this year, second to the man himself, Jeff Browning, she has officially put her stamp on the world of trail running. Keep your eyes on this woman, she’s moving fast and she has big goals. DO BIG THINGS Tara! • #113 Guinness World Record Holder / Alyssa Clark
Alyssa Clark is fresh off of a supported FKT on the Pinhoti Trail. That’s a 335-mile trail through Alabama and Georgia with about 50,000 vertical feet. Her new record is 5 days, 14 hours and 43 minutes. Alyssa also holds a Guinness World Record for running the most consecutive marathons, 95 days in a row! Needless to say, she’s a bada$$ and I couldn’t wait to get her on the show. Oh yeah, she won Ouray 100 this year as well. She says it was just a training run J You’ve got to listen to this episode!

  • #112 The Hiking Veteran / Erik Schlimmer
This is the DO BIG THINGS podcast, episode 112.  My guest this week, Erik Schlimmer, has climbed almost 2,500 mountains.  He’s spent over a thousand nights camping in the wilderness.  He’s written a bunch of books.   This was just a super fascinating conversation for me.  He’s been on the show before, he was on episode 36 of the DO BIG THINGS podcast.  If you go back and listen, you’ll remember Erik is the guy who doesn’t filter his water when he’s out in the wild.  He dips right into a stream and consumes.  This goes against everything we’ve been taught.  No filtering, no iodine tablets, nothing.  So needless to say, Erik marches to the beat of his own drum.  Those are the people that I love.  These are the folks that I want to come on the show and chat.  I know you are going to enjoy this conversation!
