  • TWITTER SPACE - PART TWO WATFORD 5 - 0 ROTHERHAM UNITED

Rich joins having thought he wouldn’t get to the game and uses the word “master class” as a positive and a negative, Charlie joins us and remembers Tom Sawyer and the club marking the occasion with a poignant display before kick off and at half time, adding his personal experience regarding family members suffering with dementia and appeals again for Hornets to reach out to Nigel Callaghan currently looking after his mother suffering with the condition and having had a further set back this week – look out for ours and other socials for ways you can help, before coming up with the 102nd (mis) pronunciation of “Chakvetadze”.

Mal and Steve join us from the road back up North and have decided to ban Mike as having not made the journey to the Vic today – he is now considered bad luck before commending how the club and sport in general commemorates such events, Gary joins us to respond to Ron’s earlier comments and talks about those people who are not comfortable in coming to football and why EDI initiatives are vital and if one additional supporter feels able to join in watching the Hornets then that is a net positive, but chances are it would actually be a snowball effect.

Danny joins us and he and Pete immediately deal with the really important Mayonnaise reports of the last few weeks, before taking a warm bath in the rosy glow of the 5-0 win and how much better that makes the 6-game unbeaten run feel. Pete makes Danny Valerien again for the next match and Danny makes some controversial calls refusing to change a winning team on the basis of “if it’s not broken…….”

We cover the five words and long forms and Pete remembers Capt Tom Sawyer and an experience at the time that he wished to share.

    Lest we forget…….

Callers analyse the game, the strength of the opposition and the six-game unbeaten run since the last international break. They also discuss some controversial issues surrounding the club, such as their methods of stewarding at the club and recent blocking of a certain fan on Twitter. Finally, the potential American investment in Watford Football Club is broached, along with speculations about possible changes in the club's ownership.

Ben is happy that the team have reacted from the Huddersfield performance and Pete lines him up for the next quiz, Rob joins us from Atlanta complains about the weather but has a far sunnier disposition due to the match result! Carlos joins us having had an issue with stewarding, delight about the game and intrigue about rumours of potential new investment. Finally, Ron joins for the first time in a while the discussion moves to the EDI initiatives at the ground, people’s right to air their views in a polite fashion and Pete talks about an initial misjudgement of a group based on his past rather than taking the time to properly engage.

  • DNSYE - GOLDEN SHOTS & VISIONS OF BLUE SPECIAL

Justin and Pete talk with Colin Payne and Geoff Wicken, the men behind The Treasury and YBR. The duo discuss Colin’s latest book, 'Golden Shots and Visions of Blue', which brings Watford history to life through the colourization of black & white photographs from the 1950s and 60s, a crucial yet underappreciated era for the football club and discuss the journey of the club through blue to gold.

Topics include the change of kit colour, what kind of hat in the 1960’s could be used to smuggle a flask into the ground, just how high was the Rookery terrace roof and which club chairman would steal bread rolls from his own club. Pete and Geoff both take turns in holding up books on screen which is exactly what an audio podcast is made for!

Do get across to the FSA website and vote for the Treasury in the FSA awards!!

  • THE OPPOSITION VIEW - Rotherham United (Home)

We talk with Matt from @rufc_pod about how the Millers are getting on and how they’re their manager is having a hard time of it at the moment, how their record signing is getting and which World Cup winning captain namesake will be lining up in the Millers midfield!

The prediction league sees Jarvis in a sleepy mood, but Ben finds an excellent song! John bringing memories of Camberwick Green and an interim manager but remembers to add a moment in memory of those Hornets and Miller who have served. Carlos giving us a prediction from the good isle of Tenerife! Justin is upset that the dog is now above him in the table, Brian Cant gets a mention (another one people 50 and above!), Justin fails to find a tourist attraction in Rotherham!

PART TWO - Terry joins us and tells us a tale of looking for entertainment by going to Rugby and causing Northampton Saints to then lose! Pete asks if our own identity is too closely connected to the high water mark of the clubs history, John joins having fired his dice and making an interim appointment of new yellow dice but also has good news about Elton John and Taylor Swift which lead to the recycling of a popular chant!

We go through the excellent 5 word and long form reviews! Thank you as always for everyone who takes part, listens or lurks!

  • TWITTER SPACE - PART 1 - HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 0 - 0 WATFORD

PART ONE - As the Hornets fail to mount a performance of acceptable standards against a poor and highly depleted Huddersfield side supporters are torn between the obvious short comings in the performance, the style of play, the continued lack of discipline of the squad and the lack of attacking options or threat going forward - yet a clean sheet and unbeaten in five.

Rich feels enough is enough, Ellie doesnt like Dan Bachmann despite a clean sheet and the unbeaten run, Wendover wants more direct play to be mixed in as we are too tippy tappy and Neil asks about the game as Hive Live was once again playing silly beggars!!! Neil also described Carl as young, upright and on form! We dont recognise this description at all!!!

  • The World Versus Carl - Mike Duffy (VOTV)

In the first (sort of) inter podcast match Carl takes on Mike Duffy from the “Voices of the Vic” who is running for a great charity cause at the weekend.

After not doing this for a while, things go wrong in the way that they always have, Justin forgets the score (again), Pete forgets who is or isn’t a league club and Mike forgets why we volunteered to come on this nonsense in the first place. Carl gets all over excited and we play an almost entirely new round 5!!!

Thank you so much to all who have already! If you can support Mike then please do! Michael Duffy-Booker is fundraising for The Charlie Ramsey Research Fund (justgiving.com)

  • THE OPPOSITION VIEW - Huddersfield Town (Away)

We chat with Kosi (completing his hattrick of appearances on DNSYE) from the “And he takes that chance” podcast about all things Huddersfield. From the Neil Warnock inspired survival last season we hear a cautionary tale of ownership and football management misalignment, Donld Trump style ownership and a new manager already under pressure from a disenfranchised fanbase which saw around 1,000 fans leave at half time at their last away match.

The Prediction league carries on its chaotic journey despite record levels of public apathy and even the cleaner in Kosi’s office refuses to take any notice of the whole farce – frankly who can blame her!

This week John takes a trip to the Dogs Trust and Jarvis and Ben recall everything they can remember about Huddersfield and Jarvis leaves us singing along to the other Jarvis Cocker!! Carl feels (not very) guilty about pushing for a points deduction for Jarvis from last week!

Finally, Kosi reveals he’s off to Portugal for a football weekend and we work out just how much we collectively don’t know Liga Nos!

  • TWITTER SPACE - PART TWO WATFORD 2 - 2 MILLWALL

Wendover joins us from the West Herts car park and reviews the games since the last international break and looks forward to the two remaining games before the next – Huddersfield Town away and Rotherham United at home. We chat further about how to get the best from Rajovic and how the substitutions helped and hurt with that. Plus are we better off without Louza currently, who it must be remembered put in the telling cross for the equalizer. Greg finishes off with a new Indian take away dish and reveals his dislike for Strictly Come Dancing before Pete introduces a new segment – name that commentary!

Neal joins us from a squally south coast and questions why disgusting Orange wearing sneak – Keith Stroud booked Ken Sema? We discuss the US fans coming over and Neal warns us all off Baseball if anyone plans the reverse fixture. Character, Team Spirit, and progress are commended but the subs should be read in the game and not prescribed before the in-game action. Frustration at Louza is echoed with an emphasis on “team” rather than individual.

Rio comments that we should be beating teams like Millwall at home when we were in a strong position and hopes for 6 points but will take 4 from the next two games. Does Lewis look better with Big Ken in front of him?

Alex joins us from the car and accurately calls the commentary quiz answer!  Ale then loses signal, and we talk to Gary who was already regretting going drinking with Carl and the guys from the US and very possibly the guys from the Netherlands – reiterates the point the Rajovic needs regulation wingers to supply crosses to make him effective. Gary also enjoyed meeting “Badly Drawn Watford” and implores people to follow him. Garry then echoes Carls points earlier and Pete hopes that all parties can come together amicably, show contrition, and just move forward. An example from the 70s/80’s is given where this was done well.

Neil joins us but we only have half of his discussion as midway through the chat a nasty echo is produced, and no one should have to hear Pete ramble on twice!!! The Market Tavern turning back in to “Shakers” for an evening – which sounds a lot of fun! Neil is pleased to see the summer arrivals starting to show their true colours. Neil explains that Sema was booked for back chatting to Luton ref Keith Stroud! On that basis the whole of the Rookery would have booked after 10 minutes!! King Ken goes up in all our opinions for that I’m sure 😊

The five word and long form reviews are as ever an excellent barometer for the game and the goings on of the week.

Charlie joins us with a balance of pleased but frustrated that out inability to defend cost us control of a game that we looked set to dominate, Bachmann not coming for the cross into the 6 yard box for Millwalls second goal, RichWFC2 echoes the points and agrees about concerns about the zonal marking for the corner which lead to the second goal. Mike Duffy joins us and calls out the subs as the tipping point in the game and heralds Bayo’s work rate and contribution. Kayembe and Sema also come in for praise. We discuss Mike running for charity next week (fortunately getting off the subject of Pete’s Debbi Harry fixation) and his just giving page is available via our twitter page.

Pete Fincham joins us having joined us at the Bunker for pre match drinks and caught up with the guys from the Netherlands and Chris and Nick back in from the US. Pete calls out Keith Stroud before his sat nav contributes and we change to Ismaels game management in terms of Kone’s removal as the Canadian was covering such a lot of ground. Pete further calls out for many more crosses if we are playing Rajovic before remembering Sierralta’s missed chance.

Carlos moans until he gets on with Chris (Jimmy Pesto) both struggling post an evening on the beer yesterday. Carl has his say on the online discussions over the last week and as to how we should support the club. Chris then joins us to tell his tale of hangovers and friendships generated at the club that he is now firmly connected to.
