There is power in collaborating in a manner that seeks to understand and provides a safe place of respect. There’s power in being in a place where your energy can be focused on coming together, authentically to accomplish a task. There is power in bringing to bear the things that matter to allow us to focus our expertise and best selves.

When we take the position of wanting to understand, and seeking to understand, we can strengthen our thoughts, we can expand our thoughts, we can clarify our thoughts. We can make connection through our understanding of others that allows them enough connectivity and psychological safety to try to understand us. When we gain clarity of understanding, it allows us to collaboratively progress through decisions.

It can be human nature to try to separate and reject versus seeking understanding and benefiting from the insights and power understanding offers. Seek understanding.

Let’s Talk About Decreasing Uncertainty

Whether it's interpersonal interactions, investing money, taking a vacation, or planning for the future - people seem to prefer predictability.  This isn't to discount the appreciation of things going better than anticipates, it is to say we do our best to chart a course and most proceed with caution when things are unknown in order to provide themselves the best possible option for a response.  When things are unpredictable, the uncertainty can create strain. Strain can activate stress that is if not managed can create a bit of chaos. And while chaos can drive order, chaos can also result in a breakdown.

It's important to understand the value of predictability to help manage the present and to help us discover the future.  Predictability allows us to plan.  Predictability allows us to build upon our new discoveries in context of what is known. Predictability in relationships allows us to trust, to engage productively, to recognize when things are aligned and misaligned.

Let’s Talk About Progress

In large part, your job and your life is what you determine to make of it.

It's important to understand that in most situations we have no real control over other people and other people have no real control over us.  We do have control over our thinking and our behavior.  And while it is true that life experiences can and do impact the way we think, we have the ability to make change. 

When we understand the ability we have to decide how we will take in the world and how we will intentionally give back, we can more clearly see that things largely are what we choose to make of them.  That is why given the same set of circumstances and similar experience, different choices and decisions are made by different people.

To make change we must try to envision it. Even seeing a small part of something can provide some guidance. I like abstract art. Sometimes I can envision great detail and other times, I create what each moment seems to reveal. I step back, evaluate, and continue to allow things to unfold. Remember, sometimes life and progress can be like that, revealing future options more fully than other times. Each moment, is progress that prepares us for the next one. Keep Going!

Experience is a great teacher that allows us to see things and experience things from a different perspective.

Experience sometimes gives us the privilege and responsibility of sound observation and insights.

It's important for us to be encouraging about the things we observe.  In some cases, it may fall like a dormant seed that needs to the right conditions to germinate and grow, in other cases it may be the immediate spark that gives rise to the realization of dreams.

In my life, I have been blessed with experienced souls who took time to share their observations of my skills and abilities.  Sometimes, what seems natural to us or what seems to be second nature, is actually part of our superpower.

So, I encourage you to share your observations and insights of the  talent and abilities you see in others. 

Spend some time reflecting on the compliments and gratitude you have received in your life and look at patterns related to your skills, abilities, and behaviors.

Sharing observations and insights that are encouraging and enriching to others is one aspect of living a fulfilled life.

Episode 6-444 – Difficult Circumstances Embolden

Difficult Circumstances can be beneficial to our personal and professional maturity.  Tough times help us see what we are made of at that time and reveal areas that require our work to develop.  Other times, the tough times prove to us that we have what it takes.

I recall a time in my career, where a colleague attempted to sabotage me.  The lessons I learned through that experience were pivotal.  What was meant to cause harm, actually turned into a benefit that helped to me to better assess situations and also helped me to be willing to accept that things change and sometimes the right thing to do is to let go. Finally, the experience reinforced the importance of asking how an experience might serve to prepare me for the future. I came to understand that there can be a boldness in trying to find what can be taken from a situation that is of value.

When we have the boldness and confidence to live in authenticity, we tap into an energy to more positively impact the world.

Let’s Talk About Alignment

The ability to get alignment is a necessary skill for successful leaders and the teams they lead. 

Gaining Alignment may be challenging, but it is valuable to the success and longevity of a solution or a path forward. Alignment creates an opportunity for discussion, and an opportunity for all to share in the vision of the path forward.

Finally, alignment can fluctuate over time with evolving circumstances, and so alignment requires continuous attention to remain relevant. We may have alignment on a personal level, an interpersonal level, a group level, or an organizational level. It is important to take inventory of things to ensure we remain aligned and if not to understand why and to implement intentional change. 

Alignment can benefit our collaborative efforts, having a shared understanding allows us to make progress faster.  Ensuring our alignment remains relevant can help us to identify and focus on priorities that best help us to move forward.
