Meet Dr. Kwadwo Kyeremanteng. He comes from north of the border and is a physician formally trained in critical care medicine and palliative care. To achieve this, he founded the Resource Optimization Network, a multidisciplinary research group working to reduce health spending in this area without compromising care. Dr. K, as he is fondly called, is a leading contributor helping the department to achieve its vision of shaping the future of Medicine.
Recently, he joined the physician podcast family with his popular show Solving Healthcare. Solving Healthcare is a podcast series featuring interviews and discussions on topics related to improving healthcare delivery in Canada based on the values of cost-effectiveness, dignity and justice in healthcare. I gotta give him props, my man has been busy pumping out great content around Covid-19 and I definitely recommend you all subscribe to his podcast.
Dr. Kwadwo is on the hotseat today so we can learn more about him, why he started his show, and what are the differences in responses to Covid 19 between the US and Canada.

Our 2nd most downloaded episode this year was Episode 194 – D.O. Lives Matter
We talking about the crazy misrepresentation of the osteopathic profession that happened with Dr. Sean Conley. You might remember, Dr. Conley is President Trump’s physician, and media personalities wrongly pounced on his credentials as an explanation for his questionable statements during press conferences. Today, Drs. Jen Caudle, Tyree Winters, and Tyeese Gaines join me to discuss this contested issue!

“We have to postpone this closing…I gotta pick up my son!!”
Yup, I said that. As you’ve already learned by listening to previous episodes, there are many potential potholes along the way to becoming a landlord. Let’s be real though, it took us over 10 years to become fully minted attendings, we’re not going to let real estate scare us away.
So on this episode, you’re going to catch us while we’re driving on the highway to close on the property. Did we forget to mention that the REAL closing was the day before? Yup! Take a listen to find out why!
These are the 4 main things we discussed in this episode:

Is it possible to be a Doctor and still feel like you failed at something?!
Well, that’s how I felt. Recently on Twitter, a heated conversation occurred on student loan debt between a medical student and a prominent physician blogger. I felt a certain way about it at first, but after much thought decided to share the stories of two first-generation immigrants’ walk in student loan crisis.
That’s right, Renee joins me to talk about the emotions of chasing a dream and the financial consequences that came along with it.

“Do I submit a CV or a resume?”
“What’s a RVU?”
“How much of a salary should I ask for?”
These are all questions that you might have had or currently have now that its time to start looking for a job. Unfortunately, your residency/fellowship probably is not helping you with the answers to these questions.

“Shoot your shot!” Not sure where that quote originates from, but to me it means take a chance even if means you’re going to get a hard “No” in response. I’ve been a huge fan of Tiffany “The Budgetnista” Aliche’s work for several years. Several months ago, I reached out to her to see if she would come on to talk about personal finance and self-employment. Tiffany said yes, and now we’re here! On the real, her episode is a masterclass on hitting rock bottom, finding your strengths, and then believing you can monetize it.
More about Tiffany Aliche:
Tiffany “The Budgetnista” Aliche, is an award-winning teacher of financial education and is quickly becoming America’s favorite, personal financial educator. The Budgetnista is also an Amazon #1 bestselling author of The One Week Budget and the Live Richer Challenge series.
Through her company, The Budgetnista, Tiffany has created a financial movement that has helped over 1 million women worldwide collectively save more than $150 million, and pay off over $100 million in debt, purchase homes and transform the way they think about their finances. These women that participate in this global movement call themselves, Dream Catchers.
Tiffany credits her experience as a preschool teacher for 10 years in Newark, NJ for defining her purpose behind The Budgetnista…education.
In 2019, Tiffany transformed her commitment into legislation when she partnered with Assemblywoman Angela V. McKnight to write a bill that was later signed into Law A1414 (The Budgetnista Law). This law made it mandatory for financial education to be integrated into all middle schools in New Jersey.
To further her mission Tiffany has created and teaches numerous financial classes both online and in person. Her signature course is her annual, Live Richer Challenge with over 900,000 women participating in one or more of her Challenges.
She also blogs about personal finance for The Huffington Post and The Budgetnista Blog, co-hosts an award-winning podcast, Brown Ambition and has an online school, the Live Richer Academy that teaches women how to create, implement and automate their own financial education path.
The Budgetnista and her financial advice have been featured on Good Morning America, the TODAY show, PBS, TIME, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, ESSENCE Magazine, FORBES, Fox Business, MSNBC, CNN/HLN. She is also the featured financial expert for the popular daytime talk show, The Real.

I’m very proud to let ya’ll know that this is my first interview with someone in the new podcast studio. I was addicted to late-night talk shows growing up. I’m talking Arsenio, Johnny Carson, Jay Leno and the list goes on. Talking through Zoom is one thing, but it’s a different animal when you’re face to face with your guest. Dr. Tyree Winters is my first guest in the studio. We’re talking about The New Yorker and its piece on hazard pay with residents. We also get into Dr. Tyree’s interesting path from Detroit and his stumble in Mississippi.
