Doctrine and Covenants sections 49 and 50 provide guidance and counsel to Church members regarding some specific challenges of the early church. In Section 49, the Lord addresses misconceptions and false teachings propagated by the Shakers, clarifying doctrines about marriage, meat consumption, and the Second Coming of Christ. Section 50 deals with false spirits and deception within the church, teaching that manifestations and spiritual gifts must edify and be consistent with the truth. These sections emphasize staying true to the established doctrines and being discerning about spiritual experiences.
