Many mothers inside Myanmar are unaware of the health benefits natural breastfeeding can have, both for them and their baby, which can include decreasing risk of illness, or improving the long-term health of their baby.

Part of the reason for this is an aggressive marketing campaign by companies who sell breast milk substitutes, popularly known as infant or baby formula.

In this episode, Doh Athan hears from new mothers about what they know about natural breastfeeding, and delves into some of the murkier tactics used by some of the largest infant formula companies.

In June, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees said it would begin phasing out refugee status of Chin people from Myanmar, a move that has been heavily criticized.

This week, Doh Athan speaks to Chin communities, both inside and outside Myanmar, who have raised issues about the decision, including concerns about their safety and security and a lack of job opportunities if they do return.

Several years ago, Ma Chuu Wai Nyein was travelling through Mandalay by motorbike, when a rider on another bike reached out and groped her teenage sister, who was riding behind her. Instead of ignoring the incident, as is often expected of Myanmar women, she confronted the man, who was arrested and eventually charged.

That experience inspired Chuu Wai Nyein to begin paintings that confront traditionally-held beliefs in Myanmar that women should be modest, but still accept staring and groping.

Ahead of her sixth exhibition, in Paris, Doh Athan speaks with Chuu Wai Nyein about her work, and how she hopes to inspire men and women to question these attitudes.
