Fahim Saleh was born in Saudi Arabia, to Bangladeshi parents who frequently traveled for work, until finally settling in Rochester, New York. Saleh taught himself how to program and coding as a teenager, and created numerous online projects such as a website for his family, a teenage social platform, and a prank dial service called PrankDial, which generated over $10 million in business. Saleh graduated from Bentley University in 2009, a private university focused on business and located in Waltham, Massachusetts. As he grew older, Saleh said that he wanted to create something that adds “legitimate value to humanity”, which led to him creating his first company while still in high school, using the income from PrankDial to fund his ventures.
Saleh would then go on to co-found the ride company Pathao, which was very popular in Bangladesh and Nepal in 2015. Pathao was valued at $100 million dollars. In 2018, Saleh also helped found Gokada, a Nigerian ride-hail startup for motorbike taxis, that had millions of dollars in funding and gained a lot of traction in the country. However the company faced setbacks after authorities in Lagos banned motorbike taxis in 2020. Saleh would also invest in another ride-sharing company named Picap in Colombia.
As we can see, a very bright innovator who seemed to be on his way to great economic success and an imposing figure in the developing world. Friends close to Saleh would even call him the Elon Musk/Jeff Bezos/Bill Gates of Developing world. He was also known as an individual who deeply cared for his colleagues and family. Complex estimated his net worth to be $150 million dollars.
Fahim Saleh depicted himself as a entrepreneur driven by passion. As one of his YouTube videos said “Entrepreneurs are the ones that really change countries and cities. They are the ones that bring the vision”.
However, many of his visions were never seen to their full level as his life was tragically cut short.
On July 14, 2020, Fahim Saleh was found dead in his 2.25 million luxury apartment on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Police have reported that he was killed the day before.
