  • #12 Therapy talk with an actual therapist

TRIGGER WARNING: This episode deals with mental health issues and therapy and may mention triggering conditions. If this is too much for you, please head on to the next episode.

On this week’s episode - we get a quick update to the beaver dilemma… You will have to listen in to get the goods on that one! But all kidding aside, we have our first GUEST on the show this week!! Meet our awesome friend, Kelly! Kelly is a mental health therapist and is awesome at talking about therapy in an accessible and non-terrifying way.

    You’ll hear:

    • How you know if therapy is right for you
    • How to find a therapist and the benefits of self-pay and insurance
    • Common themes among people participating in therapy
    • The benefits of therapy and how many sessions you need to see a difference
    • Outpatient vs. Inpatient therapy
    • And So Much More!!

    Guest Info:

Kelly O'Gara is a licensed mental health therapist in the state of Massachusetts, with a focus on working with adults and couples. Born and raised in Livermore, CA, she met Mari and Molly at Gonzaga University. Not feeling cool enough to be their friend at first, it took moving onto their floor 2nd semester sophomore year and then loads of booze in Italy to become life-long friends. Since graduating from Gonzaga, she worked in higher education, then transitioned into a career in fundraising before finally finishing a master's degree in counseling in her mid-thirties and transitioning to counseling full-time. Currently, she has her own private practice (Living Solution Focused) in Pembroke, MA and is happy to be a resource for people trying to navigate the sometimes seemingly complex, mysterious and scary world of therapy.

  • #7 Neti Pots and Missing Out on Our Own Lives

This week, we are catching up with each other and sharing our illness woes! But through all the struggles, we can find a way to commit to our goals, not the process. We talk about an excellent TedTalk Mari watched about surviving the downtimes in parenthood (link below). We recognize that parenthood isn’t about balance as much as it is about integration — how can you get everything done without burning yourself out? And what happens when you get out of your own way?

    You will hear:

    • The importance of giving yourself grace and taking time for yourself
    • Our message to mothers: Whatever you are doing IS enough. YOU are enough.
    • Try asking for what you need or want (like we would like some 5-star ratings and reviews!!)
    • Concept: You Only Live Once – Stop Fucking Around! Figure out how you want to live your life and do it.
    • And More!

  • #6 If We Are What We Eat, Does That Mean We Are What We Think? I Sure Hope Not!

What kind of thoughts do you have tumbling around inside your head? We want to start a dialog about the limiting thoughts that plague us all! What happens when we listen to that voice inside our head and how can we build the habit to thrive, despite that negative voice? According to our extensive search (asking Jeeves), 75% of our thoughts every day are negative. That’s wild! How much could we do if that changed?

    We talk more about:

    • Spotting those negative thought and swapping them for something more positive
    • Recognizing that those voices aren’t us
    • Our own limiting beliefs
    • Questions to ask yourself to challenge that limiting belief
    • And more!
