Though often considered a toxic behaviour, comparison is an important brain function that helps us understand the world around us and ourselves.
Maintaining your mental health amongst instinctual comparisons is an essential factor to maintaining a strong sense of self, and in the age of thirst traps and cuffing season, it’s easier said than done.
Today I’m joined by someone with a unique outlook on comparison. As an identical twin, her earliest memories are of people making comparisons between her and her sister. As she grew up, practice made perfect when it came to separating the perceptions of others from how she saw herself.
With her expertise on how to combat negative effects of comparison, she shares tips on how to shrink the impact of comparing grades, careers, and looks on your mental health. The biggest one of these? Remember that comparisons are normal. It’s being mindful about whether they’re helping or hindering your own sense of self, your relationships, and your personal growth that matters.
