Today’s guest is Patrick O’Donnell, a retired police sergeant from Milwaukee who spent 25 years in one of the nation’s largest police departments, handling everything from routine patrol to major investigations and crime scenes.
After retiring, Patrick took that real-world experience and turned it into something unique — becoming an author, podcast host, and consultant helping writers and filmmakers get police work right through his platform, Cops and Writers.
He’s also the author of books that give an inside look at policing — from rookie experiences to the realities of working the streets during some of the toughest times in modern law enforcement.
Today, we’re talking about the reality of police work versus what people think it is, the transition from the street to storytelling, and why getting the details right actually matters.
