I located a report that has some similar features, the case of Calvin Russel Sault, who was found off I-94 on June 7, 1978.

The body of Mate Crawford (50) was found about 2.5 miles west of US 19 on the side of the Ozello Trail in Citrus County, Florida on May 5, 1986. He had been shot twice with a small caliber weapon.
