    Publisher's Summary:
Any successful scholar will make personal sacrifices to enhance his research. But most are never expected to include a suspect marriage to a barefoot hill girl. Musicologist J. Monroe Farley hopes to prove that the wilds of the Ozark Mountains preserved the language and music of an era gone by. Hill girl Meggie Best only hopes for a handsome prince to make her dreams come true. Neither expects to have life suddenly upended by a jar of bad piccalilli and a skunk.
This story set in the Ozarks of 1903 recalls mountain ways and wiles as unique as the music the traveling scholar seeks. Publisher's Weekly awarded a starred review and described the story as "rich and heady as a jug of mountain 'donk' - and just as hard to put down."

Historical Romance in the Ozarks - with music
    Outline
It's the early 1900s and musicologist J. Monroe Farley (Roe) has travelled to the Ozarks. He has a theory and wants to study the music of the area.
He meets up with the Best family, daughter Meggie believes he is the Prince Charming she has dreamed of for so many years. With both coming from completely different backgrounds, Meggie being raised in the Ozarks and Roe educated at Harvard, they certainly don't share the same life view. It is their different outlooks and different life expectations that provide the story with plenty of scope, some quite humorous.
I found it quite slow to start, consequently it took me a while to become involved in the story, but I did like the way the characters slowly developed and moved towards an appreciative realisation of each others differences.
I quite enjoyed the book and though I appreciate the quality and style of the writing, as it is a romance, albeit historical, I don't think I quite fit the intended readership, but the music helped it along.
    Narrator
A fine narration by Kevin Clay, I enjoyed the wonderful rhythmn and tone of his voice, very easy to listen to. His vocal gender changes and characterisations are excellent, the listener won't be left guessing at who is speaking. For me, he made the story more interesting, he carries it along at the right pace and his timing is spot on. I enjoyed the accents, being non-American I can't vouch for the accuracy but they sounded pretty good to me.
Disclaimer: audiobook provided by the narrator in return for an honest review
A layered story of love, hardship and differences!
I was given this audio book free in exchange for an honest review. This story was set in the Ozark Mountains in the early 1900's. It's the story of J. Monroe Farley, who has traveled to the Ozarks to capture the songs and music of the area to try to confirm his theory that it is still a pure form of early music brought to the country by their ancestors. Upon arriving to the Ozarks he stumbles across the Best family and reluctantly agrees to stay with them after suffering greatly from the daughter's attempt at cooking.
Meggie Best has read fairy tales all her life and has been waiting for her Prince Charming to arrive. She's convinced that Roe is all she's been waiting for until he announces that he has no intention of marrying her and then becomes ill from her cooking. Prince Charming, indeed! She's attracted to him, but over him.

    Publisher's Summary:
Is he a half-mad court jester or a brilliant spy for the king?
Lady Julianna knows this much for certain: He is no fool when it comes to the art of seduction.
Nicholas Strangefellow is a scoundrel prized by King Henry himself - a court jester. Now sent to the wedding of the Earl of Fordham to entertain, but secretly under orders from the King to bring back a legendary chalice, Nicholas is a man on a mission that could easily be bollixed. Suddenly the chances of bollixing increase merrily when he meets irresistible Julianna, the widowed daughter of the bride-to-be.
After a loveless arranged marriage, Julianna plans to join a convent. Yet she finds herself in wickedly provocative conversation with, of all men, the king's mocking, ribald "wedding present" to the Earl. Nicholas - the jester, the fool, and a mere commoner who immediately decides to seduce her while procuring the chalice for King Henry.
What follows is a rollicking comedy, an intrigue spiced with villains and danger, but most of all, a tender and sexy romance. Nicholas is hardly the husband a noblewoman should choose, and when he's faced with a choice between desire and betrayal, or loyalty to King and a comfortable life, he'll have to confront the shocking truth that he's become a fool for love.

GREAT STORY, NOT SO SURE ABOUT THE NARRATOR.
Would you listen to Lady Fortune again? Why?
I probably would, but only because i love the story. I listened to the sample before i bought it and it took me a few weeks to finally relent and purchase it...i mean its Anne Stuart. I was also hoping that the narration would improve further in the book...it didnt. I dont regret it though...Anne's stories are addictive and her audiobooks are like a new fix ; )
What was one of the most memorable moments of Lady Fortune?
Dont have one memorable moment, but have memorable characters instead. I love Nicholas...i mean who wouldnt even if he is not the typical medieval knight or a sorcerer, but the king's fool. That was unexpected and fun. Julianna is also a great character and their love story delightful. The secondary romance involving Julianna's mother was also interesting.
How could the performance have been better?
By changing the narrator. Susan Ericksen would be perfect (Rohan series was her absolute masterpiece). I am not trying to be unkind but, actually anyone would be better then this lady. Her style of reading just dont go together with Anne's stories.
    Any additional comments?
Waiting for Lord of Danger audiobook with bated breath ; )
    lady fortune
A funny and interesting story. The characters are compelling and interesting. A great way to spend a rainy afternoon.
    Laughed Throughout the story
I got this book via audiobook boom. I am glad I took the time to listen to all 10 plus hours. They were funny and strange and wicked and wild. The narrator made me laugh so hard when she did the priest's voice. She did mispronounce several words but aside from that, she did a great job. I am so glad that not only Julianna had her HEA but so did her mother. This is one regency romance that I did not mind listening to. The narrator was very good with all the ranges of voices she had to perform. Glad that Bogo got to retire in peace. I am sure with the priest the monk's order was a much nicer place. The story was well written and there were enough plot twist to keep the story going.

although it's the same narrator as others in this series, the voices are better than the others. This aided the story for me. That aside, I enjoyed these characters.

    I LOVED THESE BOOKS....
I seriously cannot rave enough about LINDA LAEL MILLER'S books
The first one is as good as the second, third, fourth as many as she has written ....LOL :)
Any of her book's or series is just as interesting as the first one you begin reading .
still any excellent reading I would recommend any and all LINDA LAEL MILLER'S Books.
Once you read just one of her books :) you just wont want to ever stop ,
    Pretty good but...
I love LLM and this book was not an exception but there were too many subplots going on. Chance and Kate, Brice and Mary...I think they really need their own story; not even an epilogue so you are left hanging. Main characters...good LOVE story.

Entertaining Espionage Thriller Set in Regency
    Any additional comments?
A Reckless Soul by Elizabeth Cole is an entertaining espionage thriller set during the Regency period. The "Zodiac" is a secret spy network formed to protect the crown and mother England. There are multiple scenes with action, adventure, and near death experiences for our heroes. Although it is the second book in the Secrets of the Zodiac series, it is truly a stand alone book as I didn't feel like I was missing something by not having listened to the first book in the series.
The story focuses on the relationship between Sophie Bertrand and Bruce Allander who are teamed up to work undercover on a case where government secrets are being sold to Napoleon from a member of the nobility. Up until this point in time, all Zodiac agents worked alone, so the first half of the book is a competition between Sophie and Bruce as to who is the most skilled at their job. In the second half of the story, Sophie and Bruce slowly learn to appreciate the other and realize how similar and compatible they are.
Marian Hussey did a fantastic job narrating. She really brought the characters to life, giving each character their own distinct voice. Marian's narration definitely contributed to my enjoyment of this book, raising my overall satisfaction by at least one star. I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review. In short, I enjoyed listening to this audiobook and recommend it!
    Strong female lead
I loved the first book in this series and I was anxious to read this one. The narration was great but, for some reason, I found the book dragged a bit.
That being said, the characters were quite interesting. Sophie is strong, prefers to work alone, and willing to do what it takes to complete her missions. Bruce is pretty much the same. When they are assigned together, sparks fly - in a few ways.
Good overall but just a bit under 5 stars.
    Sorry..
At 25% Im already tired of these two. Bruce and Sophie cant even talk to each other without being mean and hateful.

    Surprised
I enjoyed some of this book; however I was surprised at the descriptive sex scene towards the end of the book. In my opinion, it didn't fit with the rest of the story. Now that I know, I can avoid this author in the future, and anyone reading this review will know also.
A funny, gentle, romantic story set at Christmas
This is a feel good story about a spirited woman and a stuffy guy who finally realise they are made for each other. Okay, it has been done before in romantic fiction, but hey, what hasn't? This story is so skilfully written that you get caught up in the characters lives very quickly and want to know what happens to them. She is a very likeable, flawed human being and he is a pompous nit-wit; at least in the beginning. I like the way the writer gradually draws the two of them together. The seduction scene is beautifully written and full of emotion - not many writers can do that well, so all credit to Callie's gift for writing. It was nice for it not to be an icky anatomy lesson.
This is a curl up by the fire, relaxing read, perfect for when you want some 'me' time. Lara Wells narrates it so well that I almost forgot she was speaking and saw it all unfold in my head.
I have just started reviewing and have decided to only review what I really like. I don't like trashing someone's pride and joy so you will see high star ratings from me since. iIt is all matter of taste anyway. The exception being something that makes me angry and /or looks carelessly written

    Decent read
What did you like best about Her Scottish Rogue? What did you like least?
The beginning of the story was quite intriguing and kept me on my toes but I feel the plot got to a point where the story started to drag. Also, the mistaken identity issue was a pivotal factor in the whole story whoever there were moments that it wasn't handled right. For instance, once the hero figures out the truth he should have at least tried to find out what happened to the real Lady Anne but instead does, what?...
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
The narrative of the story was pretty slow not to mention there was much "she said," "he said," as opposed to other ways to infer who was doing the talking and at times that became annoying.
What aspect of Steve Worsleys performance would you have changed?
There were times that the Scottish brogue and English accent sounded the same and flat, like there was no lilt, not always of course but still I couldn't tell who was doing the talking until there was the "he said" part.
Was Her Scottish Rogue worth the listening time?
Yes and no. This is my personal opinion obviously and perhaps I would have felt different if I had read the story myself. The book dragged a lot in some parts so I feel that had I been reading it I could had just skimmed those pages instead of listening to what to me was just redundant and inessential to the plot.
    Any additional comments?
The end was a bit confusing and I get that is a series but it left me with an aftertaste of unfulfillment. To me there were to many untied knots and too many unanswered questions that I don't want to post or I'm afraid I would be giving away too many spoilers.
Overall I guess it was a decent read and I'd like to know what happens to the hero and heroine but I'm still not sure if I'll be picking up the next one in the series.
    decent story
It was okay. Worth the purchase, but not the best read. I would have liked more background. Maybe book two would be better. I don't want to give a spoiler, but the ending was very unrealistic!
    love love love
kept me riveted. couldn't stop listening. I recommend this to anyone who likes stories of Scotland
I found reasons to do housework so I could listen!
If you could sum up Her Scottish Rogue in three words, what would they be?
If I could sum up in three words, I would say 'Romantic thriller - gripping!

Holiday Tale for Fans of a Young Knight's Quest
    Any additional comments?
The Mission: He Taught Me to Hope Christmas Vignette is a continuation of the Darcy and the Young Knight's Quest series by P.O. Dixon. The short story begins not long after He Taught Me to Hope ends with Elizabeth and her young son, Ben Carlton, now living at Pemberley. Ben feeling sad for Darcy because he's lost both of his parents (instead of only one like him), desires nothing more than to have Darcy experience the best Christmas ever. He elicits the help of Georgiana and together they send invitations to Elizabeths sisters and parents as well as Darcys extended family, the Fitzwilliams, for Christmas. Considering Elizabeth used to be engaged to Mr. Collins and is now married to Jane, this is no small task Ben has set out to achieve. However, by the end, Jane and Lizzy are the best of sisters once more.
Pearl Hewitt did an outstanding job narrating, as she does with other Jane
Austen Fan Fiction books. Her voice for the young Ben is particularly good. My only problem with this story is that it was too short! I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest unbiased review.
Quick Holiday read and story continuation
What made the experience of listening to The Mission: He Taught Me to Hope Christmas Vignette the most enjoyable?
I read this over my Winter break and it was great to listen to a quick story line with characters I've enjoyed. This is a continuation of The Young Knight's Quest and was very enjoyable. Looking forward to the next book.
Have you listened to any of Pearl Hewitts other performances before? How does this one compare?
Pearl Hewitt has become one of my favorite readers. She incorporates different voice inflections for the characters which adds depth and feeling to the story.
    Any additional comments?
Looking forward to the next book.
    Happy Christmas
Listening to Pearl Hewitt voice Ben's words enraptured me. I was disappointed when i heard references to the previous story because although i had read it last year the facts were vague. My solution was to buy the audible book (reduced price since I owned the kindle edition) of He Taught Me to Hope . What a great read oops listen! Pearl made the story come alive. I fell in love with Ben all over again. I especially loved the relationship between Darcy and Ben. This brought the spirit of Christmas to the Darcys and me.
    A Surprise
Young Benn has plans, but he cannot implement them alone, so he asks Georgiana for help in writing the invitations. He wants to surprise his mother and new 'da', with the best Christmas ever, by inviting their family members (including an unforgiving Mr. Bennet), to help celebrate their first together as a family. A sweet vignette about family coming back together. As usual, Pearl Hewett does a beautiful job bringing Benn, Darcy, Lizzie and the others to life.

Tabitha McClelland knows accepting a job as a Harvey House waitress can be risky. Traveling alone to the rough-and-tumble West just isn't done by young ladies of good breeding. But far more dangerous is her powerful attraction to Adam Foster. Family means everything to the widowed chef, but the self-sufficient Tabitha cherishes her freedom above all else.
Adam is captivated by the fiercely independent Tabitha. Fraternizing with the female employees is strictly forbidden, but the Harvey Girl awakens feelings too compelling to ignore. Can Adam convince Tabby to share his dream of a future in California - together?
    Members Reviews:
The Story Was Really Slow But Saved By Narration
This story takes place along the route to California back in the 1800s, I would guess. Tabitha is a young woman, single and trying to earn a living on her way to California. She has found her niche in waitressing for the version of the 1980/90's Howard Johnson's.
Adam Foster is a cook at these establishments. He is widowed and not looking for anything but to survive and support his family.
There are very strict rules against fraternization between employees. It seems that everyone is keeping an eye out so as to tattle on anyone making "inappropriate" comments and or behavior.
Midway through the story, Adam gets the message that his mother is quite ill. He rushes back to be with her. It is during the separation that Tabitha and Adam really understand that they are lonely without one another.
I appreciate the authors work and her Christian theme throughout. The story seemed to be very slow. With 30 minutes left I was still waiting for the story to pick up.
However, Meghan Kelly is amazing, as usual. She kept me engaged and listening lots longer than I would have, had I been reading it on my own or the story being performed by another narrator.
I don't really know how to rate this one other than on performance which I easily give a solid 5 stars. The story line was good but it just took so long to get anywhere that I found myself floundering and losing interest.
There is nothing to note regarding warnings for any potential listeners.
This could easily be rated PG, if not milder, because it was a nice, sweet, innocent Christian story.
*I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my review. I will give the author another chance in the future and hope for a more direct and intriguing plot. Meghan Kelly, the narrator, has my attention on just about anything she chooses to perform.
I enjoy leaving reviews, as I know that I read them the reviews of others before I purchase a book. If you found my review helpful in your decision about this book, would you please select yes directly below this paragraph? Thank you so much.

    Publisher's Summary:
Eva Leigh's smart and sexy Wicked Quills of London series continues, as a fiery playwright meets her match in a rake whose talents are far from hidden....
Playwright Maggie Delamere shuts down aristocratic males with a mere flick of her razor-sharp quill. If only they were so easy to dispatch offstage - especially Cameron, Viscount Marwood. The impossibly charismatic man seems made to test her resistance. But when writer's block and an enemy from Maggie's past simultaneously strike, Cam makes an all-too-tempting proposal....
Cam has never offered a lady his bed without being in it...but Maggie needs a writer's retreat, and his manor is just the place. It's the least Cam can do for the brilliant woman who pens his favorite plays. Still, there's something more than social justice behind the relish with which she skewers her "gentleman" characters. And as Maggie's pen and inhibitions loosen, Cam intends to unlock her secrets - one delicious revelation at a time.

    Lightweight....
There wasn't a whole lot to this tale. What there was didn't need to take so long, it was a simple tale. That said.... it was enjoyable. Yet something was missing. Even in the epilogue I was waiting for 'it'.
NARRATOR: Lacking....easily tolerated but a slight speech/enunciation issue pulled me back out of the story on a regular basis. I'll avoid her.

    Enjoyable story
I enjoyed it but there were times that I felt it was too long. I listened to it on a trip and it made the trip go fast.
Good second book in this series
I really enjoyed the first book in this series. This second one in the series, Maggie's story, was quite good. The lead characters in this series are successful women who write - a great premise for a series. I never really learned why Cam insisted he wouldn't marry, though. And the book ended without revealing a certain portion of Maggie's past that I was sure would get resolved.
The narration was great! This book was very enjoyable.
    Too Slow For Me
Interesting premise but too slow for me. I may have enjoyed it more if the main characters did or acted more as their characters were written - too much of their internal monologue was not reflected elsewhere.
