    Publisher's Summary:
The first three books in this action-packed, wildly original fantasy series by New York Times bestselling author Jasmine Walt.
This kick-ass urban fantasy series has been compared to books by Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Karen Marie Moning, and more. You're sure to enjoy it if you like spunky heroines, kick-ass fight scenes, wild new worlds, and sizzling, slow-building romance.
    Book One: Burned by Magic
    Book Two: Bound by Magic
    Book Three: Hunted by Magic

Decent YA light read, but no Patricia Briggs
    Any additional comments?
Books 1-3 are enjoyable as a light read for a teen audience. For adults, they lack depth and sophistication of plot and character.
I love urban fantasy and enjoyed the world building in these books. There are some fun, original ideas. The main character is at times likable and other times immature, bratty and entitled. She wants to be respected but doesn't give respect. But mainly, I found her to be unconvincing as an enforcer or a panther/shifter. There are much more believable characters and more exciting fight scenes in Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson series, Faith Hunter's Jane Yellowrock series and Mark Henwick's Bite Back series.
Narrator did a decent job but needs to slow down a bit.
Overall, the books are well written and flow well. I would give them more stars if they were more developed and the main character was more believable in her role.
    It keeps getting better.
I was frustrated in book 1 by some aspects of the character but intrigued by the story and cast, however by the end of book 3 I was checking the number of chapters left cursing that there wasn't more. I keep wanting more of Sunaia Baine!
    20 hours....worth the credit!!!
Although the reviews for this book were mixed I decided to try it out. I love it when they lump books together that are short and you get it for one credit as sometimes there are stories I would like to listen to put less than 7 or 8 hours is not worth the credit for me. Now, the book. I would have to agree with one of the reviews I read about the teenage attitude Baine has. She whines and complains and has child like behavior in the wrong settings. She has no respect for others and is rude to people who are trying to help her when it would be best to be respectful. This did become very annoying by the end of the 20 hours. The book was ok and the story was different and entertaining. There is not a suspense building aspect to the book, there are no big exciting scenes, but it does hold your attention ok. The narrator did a great job and made the story believable. You could tell the different characters easily. I would say if you are in between your favorite series and need something to pass the time this will do a good job.
    Finally...a kiss!
I can say that I am thrilled the story had made progress in this third book. Not only do we experience more movement from the resistance but a kiss from our main characters. Not only and kiss but open admittance of feelings.
This book moved at a more rapid pace with a lot of action taking place.

Great book. Looking forward to more!
I began listening to Nathan's books when he was reading them himself. I loved the way he narrated and knew exactly how each character would be feeling at the time. I wasn't sure if I'd like the new reader and I didn't at first. Given time I've grown to accept him and I'll say he did a great job with the book. All I request now is...... more books, Mr. Lowell!
    Great Listen!
Gosh now I want the next one. I was afraid of being disappointed by the narrator as I'm used to listening to the author but that wasn't the case at all. What a great book!
    Strong new beginning
The traders tails series was fantastic all the way through. This series has a bit more action to it (so far), but maintains the overall feeling of the other.
Ish is back with Pip, and only fun will follow... for us readers, at least.
    On the fence
After listening to Nathan Lowell narrate his other books, I was excited about the story, but this narrator did not do it justice. He mispronounced many words, and sounds like he's narrating a old crime story.
    Good as usual, but....
Nathan Lowell is a great inspirational writer, but I liked the series read by him. This guy just didn't do justice to the characters, especially Ishmael.

The Mesan Alignment is revealed, and for Honor Harrington and the Manticoran Star Kingdom, this means war!
    Unintended Consequences
Sometimes things don't work out exactly as planned.
The Mesan Alignment has a plan - one it's been working on for centuries. A plan to remake the galaxy and genetically improve the human race - its way.
Until recently things have gone pretty much as scheduled, but then the Alignment hit a minor bump in the road called the Star Empire of Manticore. So the Alignment engineered a war between the Solarian League, the biggest and most formidable interstellar power in human history. To help push things along, the Alignment launched a devastating sneak attack that destroyed the Royal Manticoran Navy's industrial infrastructure.
And in order to undercut Manticore's galaxy-wide reputation as a star nation of its word, it launched Operation Janus - a false-flag covert operation to encourage rebellions it knows will fail by promising Manticoran support. The twin purposes are to harden Solarian determination to destroy the Star Empire once and for all and to devastate the Star Empire's reputation with the rest of the galaxy.
But even the best laid plans can have unintended consequences, and one of those consequences in this case may just be a new dawn of freedom for oppressed star nations everywhere.

this is a rehash of other books
Sadly David weber has simply went back yet again in the story line and told the same story from a few different perspectives. he isn't actually advancing the story line at all. Huge disappointment. Years of waiting for the next volume and he gives his readers a rehash of previous story lines.
    Extremely tedious to listen to.
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
You'll enjoy listening to an American pronounce Czech & middle eastern names ceaselessly with constant setting switches.
What could David Weber have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I understand that Weber wanted to create multiple distinct settings to immerse the audience in, but the overly heavy-handed use of foreign words makes this extremely difficult to follow unless you're drawing a string-chart and constantly referencing it. At some point about 5 hours in, every time I heard a foreign word I'd stop listening and just wait until Weber discussed the atmosphere so that I could understand what was going on.
Did Kevin T. Collins do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
This was a serious shock after binging the whole series all this year. I initially hated the previous narrator, but I ~eventually~ grew fond of her characters and come to expect their voices. This new narrator has a completely different idea on how the characters sound and how they portray themselves.
    I don't like it.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
    Serious, crushing disappointment.
    Any additional comments?
Weber spends way too much time focusing on the names of organizations in foreign languages to the point that you will easily lose track of where you are, who is talking, and who they represent.

    Publisher's Summary:
What if life as we know it was just a game?
What if instead of traditional schools, children learned by participating in a virtual reality simulation, one that allowed them to experience "life" from birth to death - multiple times?
What if one player, on his final play, could change the world forever?
    Members Reviews:
A good concept mired by lazy writing.
    Any additional comments?
The concept of The Game is a somewhat classic and attractive concept to sci-fi fans; that of a completely immersive VR world akin to that found in The Matrix. It plays with interesting ideas like 'what if life is just a computer simulation', and 'how might society change in response to the development of highly advanced VR'.
In general, the writing style and character development are fairly solid, and the performance is great. But the world-building itself, the most interesting prospect of the book, is executed terribly, and between the lines can be found an anti-atheistic message.
I get the distinct impression that this book was written for teens. Not in that the content itself is targeted towards teens, but rather, that there is an assumption of undeveloped intelligence and a lack of worldly knowledge that the author has used to justify lazy world building.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To give a few examples (very mild spoilers):
    1) We are told that viewing players in the game has replaced all other forms of entertainment (TV, movies, books, video games, etc). The only explanation given is that watching important, extraordinary, or popular people live out their day-to-day lives is obviously better entertainment, which it obviously is not.
    2) We are told that time passes at a rate of 1 virtual year per 1 real day. We are also told that it is impossible to record the game. No explanation is given as to why recording is impossible (or how viewings are done), and no explanation as to how viewing is possible, especially given the differing rates of time, and no ability to record (and thus no playing back recorded video at a slower speed).
    3) Lastly, we are told, in several pieces, that society has changed to completely revolve around the game. This includes the economy, education, entertainment, and the extreme classism that has since developed. Nearly no details are offered to explain how this came to be, or how society currently functions. There is, in essence, nearly zero actual word-building.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The book also seems to promote an approach to life that abandons healthy scepticism and rational inquiry. While the protagonists seek out and absorb all that alternative medicine and religious studies have to offer, there's a telling absence of interest in science and evidence-based medicine. There also seems to be the clear message that faith and prayer are positive and effective forces, and that the absence of religion would ruin society.
I've read and enjoyed many fictional books with religion, magic, spirituality, or angels and demons as a central theme, the problem here is the execution; its inclusion seems to be for the purpose of delivering a message, rather than serving the story.

    eh...
this book was... just ok. without spoiling I can't really say much but... the climax was trite and the characters were forgettable. I kept hoping that certain things would come to fruition and I was sadly disappointed. it seems that at the end the author was building up to another story but... eh. nah, I'm good.
The war for Earth's future continues
The gloves are off, and the Human Defense Force prepares an all-out invasion of the Scum homeworld, Abaddon. Leading the attack and tasked with killing the Scum emperor are Corporals Marco Emery, Addy Linden and Lailani Marita de la Rosa. The platoon is again commanded by Lt. Einav Ben-Ari who has filled squads with STC veterans of Scum attacks and hive invasions, Sergeants all.
The planning, preparation and training for the mass attack against Abaddon take place on the rogue planet, Nightwall, headquarters of the Space Territorial Command. As the fleet assembles, hundreds of thousands of spacecraft, from the L16 Fighting Firebirds to massive battleships and transports, carrying millions of combined HDF and STC troops, prepare to battle against hundreds of millions of Scum in the air and on the ground of Abaddon. Oh, and add in one Lt. Kemi Abasi flying one of the Firebirds.
The gripping combat action, the fantastic, exotic sceneries and the richly believable characters continue to the depth that only Daniel Arensen can provide. This third saga in the Earth Rise series is the best so far. I've fallen in love with the characters, especially Addy with all her bravado and aggression, masking the frightened child who watched her parents die, eaten by Scum. The training and combat descriptions are thorough and frankly terrifying, so well written that I laugh, cry, ache and bleed along with Marco, Addy and Lailani.
I can highly recommend this book to all, especially lovers of sci-fi action. I know you'll enjoy the book and the series as much as I did! And now the hard part - waiting for the next book in the Earthrise series, Earth Fire.
great narrator makes a bad book ok.
struggled to finish. all three so far have been narrated wonderfully but the story is just, well, lacking. NOT up to the author's usual.
    Struggled through this one
What did you like best about Earth Rising? What did you like least?
The action was fairly constant, which was nice. Some poor terminology. I'm a stickler for this. Aircraft have instrument panels, cars have dashboards. Aircraft have control sticks, video games have joy sticks.
What was most disappointing about Daniel Arensons story?
I found that the characters would face seemingly insurmountable odds, yet still win. Didn't make sense.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I liked the consistency of the character voicing.

In order to survive, the crew of the Athena must explore an alien star system to find the species that summoned them.
    Members Reviews:
    Excellent second book!
I was lucky to stop by and see Jeff Hays new releases because I didn't know these were out! haha, it was nice to be back so soon with the crew of the Athena, and to see how and what was going to happen to them in their dire situation. From Michael trapped on Pluto to the crew now in an unknown galaxy.
The character development is really good, I enjoyed the little menage a la 4 that's been going on, even though we know that Kayleigh and Zack are meant to be with each other, it seems that they're just not going to get that right just yet. Katy is a wonderful gal and does Zack a load of good by being nice to him, I do wonder though if it's going to go south it will just end up with Katy and Hicks being hurt. :( and that sucks these two are really nice characters.
As for all the alien stuff, it takes off after the first book and the speed and action doesn't really get chance to let up. There's one thing after the other for the crew, and my heart was literally in my throat for most of the read through. What I really love about this is it's not quite your typical alien invasion 'we must destroy Earth' of course no doubt they're on the way to doing so, but this is more exploration gone wrong with fallible characters you grow to love.
Jeff of course is an excellent narrator, his tone and voices really make this pop out. And it was a great listen while driving. I can't wait to get the next book on. Thank you to you both. This is an excellent series. :)
    Fantastic story!!
I am anxious to see more books in this series become available on Audible. This story is just getting wound up and has huge potential to grow to quite the collection of books. I highly recommend giving this series a shot.
An excellent follow-up to book 1
While the thrust of the story focuses on humans introduction to multi-species galaxy, some seemingly benevolent and others malevolent. This encounter is complicated due to conflicting romantic relationships between Zach (hacker par excellence), Kaylan (remote viewer), Hicks and Katy. While Zach and Kaylan are the primary protagonists, Hicks and Katy play an important roles as the crew's security contingent as well as the competing romantic interests of the two.
The SciFi elements are not crucial to the story but they do add to the excitement to the story. For example, the shroud was a means used by the benevolent species to prevent both the detection by humans of other higher-level species as well as guarding their being detected by higher level species until such time as human had evolved enough to be deemed worthy and ready.

    Publisher's Summary:
At the Sign of Triumph: David Weber's New York Times best-selling Safehold series began with Off Armageddon Reef, By Schism Rent Asunder, By Heresies Distressed, A Mighty Fortress, and How Firm a Foundation.
The Church of God Awaiting's triumph over Charis was inevitable. Despite its prosperity, the Charis was a single, small island realm. It boasted less than 2 percent of the total population of Safehold. How could it possibly resist total destruction? The Church had every reason to be confident of a swift, crushing victory, an object lesson to other rebels.
But Charis had something far more powerful than simple numbers. It had a king, a crown prince, and a navy prepared to die where they stood in its defense. It had the Brethren of Saint Zherneau, who knew the truth about Safehold's founding. Who knew that the Church of God Awaiting was a monstrous lie. And it had Merlin Athrawes, last survivor of long-vanished Earth. Merlin, the cybernetic avatar of a woman dead over 1,000 years, who was determined to break the Church's grip upon the human mind and soul.
So after eight years of war, it is not Charis but the Church that stands upon the brink of defeat. But the Church still commands immense resources, and - faced with the unthinkable - it's decided that it, too, must embrace the forbidden technology that has carried Charis so far.
In the end it is simple, for only one can survive. The lines are drawn, the navies and armies have been raised, and all of Safehold is poised for the final battle between those who believe in freedom and those who would crush it forever.

    Wow wow wow
This is a great end to the beginning and yes a long way to still travel but what a book. This was probably my favorite of the Safehold books so far. Oliver Wyman is such a treat to listen too as well. If you are new to the series I recommend starting starting with book one. Also know this even though this book is around 40 hours it goes by fast. Thank you Mr. Weber for yet another fantastic work I will enjoy time and time again.
    many detailed inconsequential sideplots
excellent performance. rushed ending has obvious missing developments such as why and how thirsk became regent. on the other hand there are very detailed side plots with characters who are introduced and then killed, making this seem like a collection of short stories in the safehold war.
    unfufilling
What disappointed you about At the Sign of Triumph?
Wrapped up in a rush, and the ultimate story of how the human race rebuilds and confronts the aliens is left untold. You never find out what was under the temple either, so the ultimate confrontation with that is left unfinished as well( probably a bigger deal in the immediate story line).
    A Great series
Each book was Worth the wait , one of my all time favorite series. This book was a good end to a good series.
    P.S.

Love the characters but not the story
I loved the first book and really liked the second one. This one felt like it dragged on and on and on. Just not as fun as the first books.
I love the characters and will stay with the series but I just didn't like the metaphysical aspects of this one.
Why is there always a fist fight?
Why is it that regardless of the level of magic/technology/time travel, the conflict always ends up in a fist fight? While I liked that this book continued threads form the first two books, I found the whole section in the Neverwhere ( or was it Neverwhen?) dull and I wasn't interested in the explanation of it. I did like the vision of the future, and there were a few interesting characters. But three of these books are enough for me. The narrator continued to do a good job, especially when there were versions of the same character who had to sound different.
    Loved listening to the story.
Loved listening to the story . The narrator really brought the story alive.
The Best Time Travel Story Ever
When I finished the final book of this trilogy I thought, "Wow, what an exquisitely perfect ending to a never-ending story!". Nathan Van Coops is a signularity amid the panoply of story telling stars of modern science fiction. I am an awestruck admirer forever, and ever, ad infinitum!
    WOW!
Best time travel books I've ever read. If you've made it this far you already know they're great. So go ahead and spend your money. I promise you won't regret it.

A welcome bounce back from book 5
This book unites many of the primary protagonists from earlier episodes and makes for a fun-filled romp through the broken world left in the wake of the alien invasion. Walt, Keri and Mia-Tom provide plenty of exciting situational encounters I was left wanting knowing that Lucy would not be part of it. Even so, the various plot-arcs were entertaining and provided a sufficient amount nail-biting and intrigue along the way.
As with all to previous books, both the author's writing skills and the narrator's oratory abilities kept the dialog lively. Of particular note was the excellent dead-pan nature of the sarcastic repartee from Walt and even Mia-Tom under extreme conditions, know full well that they were going to pay for their silliness and pay dearly.
As I said, there was much fun to be had while on a long drive home from a family Thanksgiving trip.
It keeps geting better and better.
this series falls easily in my top 10 favorites. really enjoying them all. characters are evolving in ways I wouldn't have imagined. Walt is a little unbelievable, but every story needs a "super" hero.
    Outstanding!
Just like all of the other books in the series, this one is outstanding. I've been waiting for this to be available on Audible for what seems like forever and once I learned that this was being released I listened to all of the others again. I had forgotten just how good this series is and this book did not disappoint.
    just wonderful!
truly, I'll miss this universe when the story is complete. I've listened none stop since the omnibus purchase.
    Narration
Several people have commented that the narrator for this series has ruined it for them. I like him. I think it's a gritty story and he has a gritty voice that suits it perfectly.

    Publisher's Summary:
It's happened once before, and it will happen again.
In the year 2030 the Maunder Minimum, a period of solar inactivity, will cause a mini-ice age like it did between the years 1645 and 1710. When it does, Bishop will have to save her not only from the effects of severe weather but also from man himself.
Maeve Tildon and her son Ben live alone in the rural town of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Since her husband died in the war, she's barely kept her head above water, and when the first freeze strikes in the fall, she's completely unprepared for what lies ahead. Only a war-torn man, one who prefers the solitude of the Kootenai National Forest, can rescue her and her son.
From the best-selling author of the Graham's Resolution series, Shaw brings you Surrender the Sun.

    Apocalyptic cold snap? Yes please!
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Unfortunately I felt that there were some things that were wrapped up way too quickly and conveniently which caused the story to lose some of its plausibility. Although the overall ending was fine, and the expected resolve has been experienced, I kind of felt...I don't know exactly...I guess cheated is the right word.
Which character as performed by Kevin Pierce was your favorite?
In my opinion, one of Kevin's greatest assets is his ability to read characters without actually characterizing them. There is no character better or worse than another based on his performance, they are all solid, easy to follow, and enjoyable to listen to.
    Any additional comments?
Overall I enjoyed the book; it was fun, action filled, and it was nice to listen to something with a slightly different twist. However, I think it would have been more enjoyable if there was a stronger emphasis on the survivalist aspect of the "event". Instead it read a little more like an action movie. This isn't necessarily a terrible thing, but it was enough to make the listen somewhat agitating at times.
There were a few characters that didn't seem to have a reason to exist other than as convenient vessels or fodder to assist in passing from one scenario to another, timings that were way off to the point where i had to go back and re-listen to a couple of spots to make sure I didn't miss something like "...days went by before Bishop...", and activities that took place seemingly only to setup a scene rather than making sense to the situation and characters. Sometimes it was as if there were a bunch of "scene's" written first then "filler" was added between them after the fact to move us from one to the other. It's tough to discuss these without posting spoilers but they are the reasons I gave the story only 3 stars.
I will probably go ahead and pick up the next book if one is released. Although it wasn't my favorite it was still fun and my expectations will be adjusted accordingly.

Where does Surrender the Sun rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
One of the better prepper disaster type of books.
