    Publisher's Summary:
What does the chairman of the new Atlantic Defence Committee have to do with the American Civil War? And why was a top CIA trouble-shooter needed as a middleman - a middleman looking for David Audley, senior analyst for British Intelligence?
It all seems very wrong to Oliver St John Latimer, but it does present an interesting opportunity. Unfortunately for the ambitious and usually desk-bound Latimer, the opportunity is twice as deadly as it is intriguing.

    When in Ireland?
Why in the world is the narrator using an Irish accent? No connection to the story & he can do standard English, Brit or American, for the characters. Very distracting.

Length: 8 hrs and 27 mins

    Publisher's Summary:
In the rural peace of modern England, a war game recreates the slaughter of the Civil War. But when the battle ends, a real corpse is left it the Swine Brook; and an aristocratic but impoverished revolutionary claims to have found a cache of "Cromwell's Gold".
When David Audley is called in, 17th-century secrets and the deadly game of modern espionage clash in a brilliantly intricate thriller of bluff and counterbluff.
    Members Reviews:
This time it's re enacted battles between Cromwell
and the Royalists on the old battlegrounds. English Civil War.
Do not expect Martin Cruze-Smith or even LeCarre, and you could get a palatable dose of
interesting history. As well as 'Spy vs Spy'
English polies not wanting a rightful heir to collect his millions and no one telling anyone what the game is really about.
A story about those Rusky and the KGB. Curious CIA operatives. Spanish gold robbed from South America and stolen again by the Russians during or after the Spanish Civil War. And yes a little about cunning and good luck. Cromwell's.
Spanish Gold! Cromwell! And a Red Heir!
What made the experience of listening to War Game the most enjoyable?
The story - I love its twists and turns, and the resolution - in both senses of the word. And the character of David Audley. A book with lots of Audley is always more enjoyable ...
What was one of the most memorable moments of War Game?
The chance that is taken with a chancer. More would be a spoiler, I think
Which character as performed by Dan Morgan was your favourite?
As I've implied David Audley is my favourite character - but I have to wonder why, in this and in Soldier No More, he has given the public school and Cambridge educated young man from Sussex should speak with a detectable Yorkshire accent - vowels sounds more reminiscent of Sean Bean as Sharpe than the landed, educated, Southern! Audley

    Five Stars
It is too bad this series ended with the second book. Jerry: Please write more!
Nice spy thriller that ages well
Although written back in the cold war, this book and storyline aged rather well. I particularly enjoyed the little details about how a respectable citizen might be expected to act during that time. The plot is still engaging even today. Loved the sailing scenes. Fun read.
    Dated but exciting
The novel was written and set during the hieght of the cold war, The story was excellent and the use of the sail boat was interesting. There story had an excellent pace. The second in the series kept me interested.

    Ludlum laughing at Ludlum. Sweet!
    Any additional comments?
Mr. Shepherd was clearly well aware of the absurdities inherent in the formula he exploited so well in his other life as Robert Ludlum. It's obvious from the preamble, included in this edition, that he enjoyed subverting the genre as much as I have enjoyed his subversion of it.
l It is a pity that the roads to Gandolfo and Omaha were the only ones he ventured down in this spirit...but then again maybe it was better that he left us thus rather than falling into the repetitive tedium of the Bourne franchise again and again again!
I get the feeling that the narrator, Scott Brick, equally enjoyed his reading of this book. While I always find his readings clear and professional it is sometimes hard to distinguish his delivery of say "Atlas Shrugged" from the latest zombie saga. In this performance, though, he has given voice to a range of characters and displayed an evident level of preparation that is not always obvious in his other work. The only reason I haven't handed out five stars here's because I have a constitutional aversion to the idea that anything is perfect.
it seemed like a long road to nowhere
Would you try another book written by Robert Ludlum or narrated by Scott Brick?
yes I have liked most of his books
Would you ever listen to anything by Robert Ludlum again?
    yes
Would you be willing to try another one of Scott Bricks performances?
    possibly
You didnt love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
    not in my opinon
    Any additional comments?
this is one road I wish I'd never travelled

    Great story.
    Performance let's this down.
If you persevere it does reward
    Five more words are required
    The narrator RUINED this.....!
What disappointed you about The Scorpio Illusion?
The narrator's voice sounded like a mix of a computerised spectrum digital voice v Stephen Hawkins!. No emotional voice acting and a hugely monotonous tone. I had to switch off and was left majorly disappointed as I was looking forward to this story!!!!Get the narrator changed! Long live David Rintoul!!!!
Would you ever listen to anything by Robert Ludlum again?
Not unless there was a good narrator
How could the performance have been better?
Have someone like David rintoul narrating
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Anger!, frustration and lots of swearing at how awful it was.....

    217 Hours too long
I thought it would NEVER end. So disappointing from one of my all time favourite writers. Why I kept on waiting for things to get better I just don't know. I learned an important lesson with this one. "If it's boring and confusing, it's OK to stop listening.
The Parsifal Mosaic was ridiculously over complicated and at times almost impossible to comprehend. I've never used the re-wind button so much on an audio book. I was constantly trying to figure out what was going on and who that particular character was and was he a 'goody' or a 'baddie?'
I felt it was coming from an author who was being held prisoner somewhere and being forced to write on regardless of any consideration for the poor listener.
Unless you are struggling to get to sleep at night avoid this book like the plague.
    Dreadful.
    Great!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. Good complex story and keeps you reading!
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes, the chase was great to listen through.
Which character as performed by Scott Brick was your favorite?
The foreign ones (Foreign as in not American). He is absolutely wonderful with his accents!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes, the one where Haveloc had his knife to the man's eye on the forest floor. Scott did that part brilliantly!
    Better than Bourne
This is one of the best books I've listened to. It is set during the heart of the Cold War and starts with the main character witnessing the assassination of his lover whom he believes has betrayed him and his country. He then quits the CIA and decides to tour Europe before taking up a teaching position. However his former profession won't let him go and before long he is thrust back into his former role not only to safe his life but also to safe his country.. This book is full of intrigue and so many twists and turns you'll be left guessing to the very end.
keeps you on the edge all the time
I use the audiobook service to keep me entertained and alert during my commute to work.
And this book certainly did the job perfectly. The plot is so ambitious and fast paced that you literally wait for the time to go fast that you know the next part of the story, yet the story is so good that you don't want the book to end.

    Publisher's Summary:
After narrowly surviving his last operation, Gabriel Allon, the wayward son of Israeli intelligence, has taken refuge behind the walls of the Vatican, where he is restoring one of Caravaggio's greatest masterpieces. But early one morning, he is summoned to St. Peter's Basilica by Monsignor Luigi Donati, the all-powerful private secretary to his Holiness Pope Paul VII; the body of a beautiful woman lies broken beneath Michelangelo's magnificent dome. The Vatican police suspect suicide, though Gabriel believes otherwise. So, it seems, does Donati. But the monsignor is fearful that a public inquiry might inflict another scandal on the Church, and so he calls upon Gabriel to quietly pursue the truth, with one caveat.
"Rule number one at the Vatican," Donati said. "Don't ask too many questions."
Gabriel learns that the dead woman had uncovered a dangerous secret; a secret that threatens a global criminal enterprise that is looting timeless treasures of antiquity and selling them to the highest bidder. But there is more to this network than just greed. A mysterious operative is plotting an act of sabotage that will plunge the world into a conflict of apocalyptic proportions....

    Sooo predictable...
What did you like best about The Fallen Angel? What did you like least?
Exciting story-line but outcomes are so predictable. Gabriel saves Israel, Gabriel saves the Pope, the bad guy falls to his death and kills himself when Gabriel didn't have enough evidence... If you read the previous book you know everything in advance.
An electric novel that will keep you captivated!
Absolutely one of the best stories ever read. Don't you miss this book from your library.
    Another brilliant read
Once again we listened together over several weeks, drawing out every word of this fiction based on so much fact. Can't wait for the next book when we re on holiday
    A good story
Yet again another captivating story, well written and performed. The plot line has you gripped throughout.

    Publisher's Summary:
The man Jason Bourne fishes out of the freezing sea is near death, half-drowned, and bleeding profusely from a gunshot wound. He awakens with no memory of who he is or why he was shot - and Bourne is eerily reminded of his own amnesia. Then Bourne discovers that the Mossad agent named Rebeka is so determined to find this injured man that she has gone off the grid, cut her ties to her agency, and is now being stalked by Mossad's most feared killer. Do the answers to these mysteries lie back in southeast Lebanon, in a secret encampment to which Bourne and Rebeka escaped following a firefight weeks ago?
The complex trail links to the mission given to Treadstone directors Peter Marks and Soraya Moore: find the semi-mythic terrorist assassin known as Nicodemo.
In the course of Bourne's desperate, deadly search for a secret that will alter the future of the entire world, he will experience both triumph and loss, and his life will never be the same.
Now everything turns on the amnesiac. Bourne must learn his identity and purpose before both he and Rebeka are killed. From Stockholm to Washington, D.C., from Mexico City to Beijing, the web of lies and betrayals extends into a worldwide conspiracy of monumental proportions.
    Members Reviews:
Rediculous lack of age progression in series.
I did not like the way they killed off his wife and had him dump his kids on his in-laws in this series. If anyone tried to figure out his age by time passing in the books they would realize the man was at least 70 years old and still getting shot, stabbed and severely beaten in each book. No one could have lived through all that.
    the end is near
Having read all the Bourne books, including this one. The story line is growing tired. This book seemed to have less to do with Jason Bourne than the other players in the book. For some unknown reason we must travel down the path of PCism & mention one of the characters sexual orintation. YAWN. I like to read these kinds of books developing an image in my mind. I dont read those kinds of books because I dont need that kind of image in my mind. A good book is like a fine meal, it will stand on its own accord. I have read many serial books over the years, the majority suck you in waiting to see what happens on the next page or waiting for the next book to reach the shelf. After this latest Bourne book I'm not waiting anymore. I will not waste any of my money on this series. Good luck & RIP Robert Lundlum, just don't bump your head while spinning in your grave.
    Eric Lustbader is no Ludlum
This is a terrible example of the Bourne property. Lustbader turns in a poor job overall. The impression I got was that the author was required to do so many of these books and just spit out the minimum necessary to complete the contract. Don't expect much from Bourne himself in this book, mostly it's other characters that are written. When he does appear, Bourne simply doesn't seem like the Bourne we've come to know. Also, Lustbader apparently was in love with one of his character's names... Maceo Encarnacion is mentioned what seems like thousands of times, and every reference to him includes his entire name... I mean, Jason Bourne is referred to as Bourne, but Maceo Encarnacion is used in every instance, sometimes two or more times in a single sentence. I mean, after awhile, it just grates on the reader's nerves.

I love all of this series about Inspector Pekkala not just because it's a fascinating period of history but because Steven Pacey is absolutely masterful in creating an atmosphere for the characters. Excellent stories of which this is as good as the others. I didn't want it to end and cannot wait for the next one.
    Brilliantly funny.
Loved it. Starting the next one right now . Even Stalin showed elements of humour. And was a great story. These need to be made into films please.
