Super action, de Villiers knows the KGB!

This novel was filled with action (and sex) from beginning to end. And also it's an informative novel capturing the total dishonesty and back-stabbing nature of the Russia KGB/FSB. Highly recommended!

Good thriller.

I've read all the other thrillers in this series as they come out in translation. I thought the earlier ones were better but this is still a fast-moving page-turner. It has less explicit sex acts than at least one of the earlier books if that concerns you.

Good read

Where does The Identity Thief rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

This is just my kind of story, and kept me interested the whole time with its twists and turns. Good character development.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of C. Michael Forsyth?

I guess I'm spoiled by the professional quality of the narrators of other books. I had a hard time understanding this narrator's sing-song voice, and large range of volumes. Half the time I could barely hear him, and the other half it felt like he was shouting. The every once in a while there was a large hiss that was that very distracting.

Would you listen to The Identity Thief again? Why?

Yes, we'll certainly the first few hours anyway. The protagonists criminal career, motives and techniques are all well described and researched. After the dramatic change of fortunes for the main man, the story becomes a little thin and lacks tension.

Would you be willing to try another book from C. Michael Forsyth? Why or why not?

Yes, a very intriguing read

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Any of the opening few hours, but especially where the main character was describing his previous exploits. The escape from the hotel was also very compelling.

dreadful narration. The poorest I have encountered

the story was in itself OK. the narrator was however very poor indeed. this will stop me purchasing any further titles with this narrator. he lacks an iota of personality in his oral notes.

John Powers is great to follow

This was great to listen to. The combination of suspense with real events make this a true "international political thriller." Narration was easy to follow, creating great imagery. Overall, a great experience following Mr. Powers.

Even better than the first

As an author, Parr has evolved and is continuing to show the promise demonstrated in his first endeavor, Due Diligence.

A fast paced thriller, Black Swan does a wonderful job of weaving financial markets and espionage into one cohesive story. One of the things I enjoyed the most was the multi-plot storyline, giving readers a taste of it all. A must read.

Full of minutia and not enough plot.

The author has difficulty staying on topic. As a result, the pace of the novel suffers. The character introductions and back stories go on forever, leaving very little time for the story.

Such a fun spy story!

This book was so much fun! Its sort of like James Bond with fembots (or the fembots from Austin Powers). This book is really short, but it was just really fun to listen to. I listened to the Audible audio version of the book narrated by Alison Campbell, and she was really good. Her voice really worked well with the characters and I was able to picture everything in my mind's eye really well. If you like a fun spy story, I highly recommend this book.

Enjoyable Short Story

A robot packaged as a department store perfume sales clerk. Female robots who can shoot bullets from their boobs. I also learned that if the boobs are closer together the "fembot" has better accuracy. If that doesn't piqued your interest I don't know what will!!!!!

This was a fast paced, entertaining audio book that I received in exchange for a review.

I enjoyed the story and the narration was perfect. It was a short story but the way it was written I could have easily listened to 6 hours of it.

Compelling Story

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I thought that listening to the book was time well spent. The recounts of the events really immerse you in the action. One thing that I appreciated about the audio book was that it start off right in a major action scene. Many books are slow to get into the major plot of the story, so for this one to go right into the action was refreshing. The book was also very descriptive of how the characters were feeling and their behaviors. For example, when the young boy was sent to blow up the embassy doors and he was walking slow and a bit nervous. The way the book described his walking pattern and behavior made it seem as if you were watching him in person and could feel his hesitation. These aspects of the book I enjoyed listening to. After listening to this book, it made me interested in learning more about warfare and the tactics behind it.

I would consider the audio version of Strikeforce Syria to be better than the print version because it is way more engaging. It is more beneficial than just reading print because it leaves a lot of the work up to your imagination and allows you to picture the scenes in your head while fostering that image through the narration. The change in tone and pitch of the narration aids in creating a more intriguing and enjoyable experience.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Strikeforce Syria?

The most memorable moment of this audio book for me was when Muhammad went to fulfill his task at the embassy and was moving too slow and Abraham realized the young boy was faltering and he would have to use his own remote detonator. The intensity of this scene continues when a guard of the embassy spots the threat and goes to draw his weapon. Abraham comes to the realization that the bomb needs to be detonated now. Abraham then hits the button killing the guards but leaving the doors to the embassy still standing. A missile is then fired at the doors and the task becomes a success.

a spy thriller with an ordinary man as the hero

Rick Putnam is a shell-shocked veteran doing the best he can. His photographic memory wont let him forget a single moment of the terrible events he suffered in Vietnam. His only relief is the time spent on his motorcycle at top speeds negotiating the busy streets of Washington, DC as a news station courier.

It is the height of the Watergate scandal in the early 1970s and everyone is hyper sensitive to conspiracy. Rick delivers a certain roll of film back to his news station, its disappearance and the death of the reporters raises more than a small warning. Now the same men are after him and he must find out why or become collateral damage in a much bigger cover-up.

The action continues almost non-stop through this 1970s thriller. Jack is an ordinary young man thrown into an impossible situation. He is pretty lucky, even though he doesnt see it that way. The listener can empathize with his flaws and skills. He practically lives on his motorcycle, so when the bad guys try to run him down, the action is at its most intense.

There are several interesting characters in the story and they sound believable enough. The bad guys are two dimensionally evil, they just do their job. But Jack is really the focus of the story and we are deep inside his head; nightmares, doubts and even delusions. The little stability he has in his life crumbles around him quickly and we share his paranoia and anguish as the story unfolds.

The novel is performed by Bill Powers. His deep voice is a pleasure to listen to and his characters are clearly discernible. There isnt a lot of variety in his portrayals, but it is never an issue. Hes got a great voice and does an excellent performance.

Courier Freelancer is a spy thriller with an ordinary man as the hero. We can relate to the military skills forced upon him from Vietnam and his post-traumatic stress disorder because of it. There is an interesting conspiracy twist in the Nixon investigation that seems highly probable. Overall, a highly entertaining espionage thriller full of action and intrigue. Recommended.

Intriqueing suspenseful and well written

Pathetic fictional history

This was a mishmash of cold war history using antiquated technology with misunderstood modern laser technology. What is really bad is showing a weak and unsure American President surrounded by right wing zombies. This was a pathetic showing of a weak American presidency willing to surrender his country on the basis of superior Russian weapons. What nonsense. This is the silliest of "military" thrillers by a noted writer. I am sadden by this nonsense and regret reading this audiobook.
