excellent and intelligent
I must confess I have not read much French literature - unable to read the original and have not really thought about the translations of the classics. This book has changed my mind and made me want to read more - from this author certainly.
This is a complex book, and it clearly is written in a French style, as recognisable as French film. Characters are well-defined and the story is well-developed. Consider also that the author has practical extensive experience in the world of intelligence, and this book makes for fascinating reading. Geopolitical catastrophes mixed with good old fashioned thriller scenarios - and you have this book in a nutshell.
You will not find this an easy read. The variety of characters, and the complex interplay makes this book both rich and at times confusing. I found it fascinating, refreshing and satisfying. Why only 4 stars? I found the climatic changes too grotesque for my comfort. It perfectly meets the needs of plot, but I found it a small distraction. Buy the book - it is excellent.
Global warming murder mystery
Translated from the French, this action mystery ties into current global-warming issues from a world perspective. While the lead characters are French, other key characters cover wide parts of the globe, and the resolution of the murder-mystery is clever and barely predictable. Switching focal points for each chapter allowed the multiple plot paths to gradually converge, keeping interest keen.
A fast paced glimpse into what may be our future.
A good and timely read with up to date - and maybe future geopolitical and sociopolitical implications. Fast paced and suspenseful. The complex plot is well developed and the ends are reasonably tied.
Very interesting!
Needed better editing, but story was great! Hope it doesn't come true ever! It reminds me that we live in a greedy world.
Loved the setting and two of the characters, but it just wasn't enough
I have to admit that the main reason why I chose to read this book is that I'm quite the armchair traveler, and I had yet to read a book set in Greenland. I also like to read thrillers with environmental elements to them. Unfortunately, once I'd finished reading The Greenland Breach, I felt the synopsis was the best part of the book.
The two strong elements in the book were its depiction of Greenland and two of the main characters. With the melting of the ice caps, Greenland is seen as a land that's literally coming apart at the seams, and this definitely ratchets up the adrenaline and the suspense.
