    Potential
These stories show genuine potential, especially the second-story Timepiece. However, they are completely unrelated to each other. I am surprised that the author didn't issue them as separate short stories since that's quite easy to do on the Kindle platform.
The stories would also greatly benefit from editing. In particular, the author overuses and misuses commas quite frequently .

An apocalyptic event by a biological attack causes life as we know it to cease to exist. The world, now in chaos, throws society into a time reminiscent of colonial America. The country, divided into domains, is controlled by different cultures from the old civilization.
Exploring the country, discovering new boundaries, and assessing the condition of what remains is only possible by frontiersmen, warriors, and soldiers. Isaiah McKenzie is a man who follows in the footsteps of a modern day Boone or Kenton. Men of this caliber are the only hope for civilization. Those that remain are forced to learn the old ways to survive in the New World.

Action Packed and Full of Adventure!
Would you consider the audio edition of Mckenzie's New World to be better than the print version?
Absolutely, the audio version of this book really brought the characters to life in such a dynamic way. This text was meant to be read out loud because as you carefully listen to the events unfolding throughout he story it makes you feel as if you had stepped into this "New World" yourself.
Who was your favorite character and why?
McKenzie because of his adventurous spirit.
Which character as performed by Harry Shaw was your favorite?
Harry Shaw's voice brought McKenzie to life in a more realistic way for me because it made me relate to this character on a very personal level.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me consider our current modern day environment. We can't help but take for granted all of the technology and modern conveniences that we use in our daily living, many things that we feel we just can't live without. Most of these items our parents and grandparents never encountered as they were growing up. But how could we, as individuals, ultimately prepare ourselves, as well as our families, for startling life changing events that could truly rock the foundation of everything we know and believe in as human beings? This book will cause you to ponder such things.
    Any additional comments?
This is quite an interesting story that is action packed, full of adventure at every turn!
Fantastic! Eerily possible in our lives today!
If you could sum up Mckenzie's New World in three words, what would they be?
    Realistic, Adventurous, Survivalist
What does Harry Shaw bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Harry Shaw has the perfect tone for this book. His voice is very pleasant to listen to and he does a great job with effects when speaking as different characters.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book caught my attention right away. It sounds just like something that could happen - any day.
    Any additional comments?
I could see this book going to the big screen.
    VERY GOOD READ
Would you consider the audio edition of Mckenzie's New World to be better than the print version?
    YES BY FAR
Who was your favorite character and why?
    MCKENZIE
What about Harry Shaws performance did you like?
VERY GOOD NARRATOR, BIG FAN OF HIS WORK
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    ABSOLUTLY COULDNT PUT IT DOWN
    Any additional comments?
VERY GOOD READ,HOPE THERE IS ANOTHER BOOK IN THE WORKS
Literally worst book I've ever read.
Feels like I'm chewing on cardboard and trying to juice some flavor out of it.

    Publisher's Summary:
    Earth is gone.
Centuries have passed since life ended on the blue planet. Humanity's survivors are now dispersed among distant colonies, thousands of light years from the barren, frozen rock that was once their home.
At a time when power means everything, the ultimate power, the imperium, rests with the Consulate Magistratus. In return for its protection, citizens must concede their rights absolutely. The Magistratus controls interstellar travel, access to technology, even procreation. Every citizen is implanted with a device to monitor their location, health and emotions. Freedom, religion and self-determination are anachronisms. Humanity's true history survives only in whispers of a secret archive.
Yet there are those who preach a new religion and who want to be free.
In the cold of a winter's night, a small village is the subject of a brutal attack. A 14-year-old boy, Jordi, sees armed men approaching and manages to wake his family. He and a handful of survivors flee into the frozen, snow-covered forest to wait for the preacher who told them their way of life was based on lies.
Shepherd, a freighter-tramp and smuggler, is commissioned to deliver illicit medical supplies to a hostile border planet near the Wall. He is dragged into a fight he does not believe in and a desperate struggle to protect his ship, his way of life and the lives of the persecuted few who seek only freedom.
    A revolution is coming....

    Thrilling and Interesting
Disclaimer: This book has been the first Sci-Fi novel that I have read, so I will be unable to give any comparison to other books in the genre.
That slight fault notwithstanding, I found this book a very entertaining read and I found Mr Bales lingo to be flawless yet thrilling, and without spoiling anything, a special mentioning should go to the final chase scene, which is leaving the reader on the edge of his/her seat.
The book is a gripping tale set in a dystopian future in a distant part of the universe and apart from the main story, it contains rather a lot of metathemes, which I found especially interesting. The book poses hard questions about themes such as religion and freedom and the ever eluding moral dilemma of what is right and wrong. Though the story starts out with the boy Jordi, his tale is soon intertwined with that of the cynical yet reluctantly heroic character Shepherd and it follows their adventure in search for a better future.
The author is great at explaining the vast universe in which the story is set, and there is potential for an epic book series with the thoughtfulness that the author has made into the background story. The author pays homage to both classic mythology (Soteria is also the Greek goddess for salvation) as well as dropping subtle critique of contemporary politics, where the Kolyma prisoner spaceship are the most obvious one hinting at the dreaded Gulag camps of the Soviet Union. These references are well made and when they are picked out, it gives the reader a further layer of reference and a deeper understanding.
The book leaves a lot of questions unanswered about how the different part of the universe is connected, which I am quite eager to read about in the next book.
