A phenomenal psychic, an unparalleled lover, and a true Renaissance man, Ashton Ford can see into the future and even into the distant past using his psychic powers to assist special clients who are in crisis.
In Don Pendleton's sixth Ashton Ford novel, Time to Time, the husband of an aging - though still beautiful - Hollywood movie star is concerned with his wife's unnatural compulsions and obsessions with UFOs, dolphins, and the paranormal. The actress is convinced that someone, somewhere in space, is calling her. This case leads Ashton Ford into the worlds of dolphins, extraterrestrials, and space-traveling UFOs. It is an awe-inspiring journey through the furthest reaches of time and space and mysteries of the unknown and a look into the ancient population of our very own planet Earth.

A New Side to Don Pendleton!
What did you like best about this story?
I'm a HUGE Pendleton fan, so I was excited to grab this audiobook. For folks who like The Executioner series, take note: Ashton Ford is a much different character - BUT I *loved* it! This is Don Pendleton's more contemplative and philosophical side, and it's great! It's like getting to know a deeper side of an old friend.
What about James Fosters performance did you like?
James Foster hits exactly the right tone for this book! His pacing and characterization were perfect for carrying me along through the story. He *was* Ashton Ford, and I felt like I was sitting right there next to him while he told me this crazy story from his life!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
There's a LOT of surprise humor in this book, that you might miss if you were reading it yourself (at least *I* might!) - but are brought out perfectly by James Foster's performance!

    Great Story, Terrible Narrator
This book was unfortunately spoiled by the awful narrator who would draw out the last word of every single sentence, which was very distracting and making it difficult to follow the story.
    Chris Sorensen ??
I won't be listening to any books narrated by Chris , if there was ever a less inspiring person to read and audio book .......

Not worth the $10 that is for sure!
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The story did not flow well and the characters had un-realistic reasons to circumstances.

No, I couldn't get past the first hour.
What didnt you like about Ashley Amos performance?
She read the story more than performed the characters.

can read it for fantasy, for comfort
The Boy Who Walked A Way is set in the future where peace is both valued and carefully monitored. As is the case with most societies, greed for power made war imminent. Jal Valhyn is a young man whose parents are conscripted into the war efforts leave him behind in the care of his Uncle. After a short time, his uncle disappears due to his job with the war and the war creeps closer and closer to home. Jal finds himself alone one night and sets out to search for his uncle and parents. His fear and helplessness leads him to an invisible mystical being who offers him comfort. Sammie and Bea, with orders from the mystical being, set out to deliver Jal to his new home providing him with safety and food while teaching him about his new home. It is through fab-u-tales (combination of fables and tales or parables) that Sammie and Bea begin Jals teachings that there is more to this world than material belongings and that one must make sacrifices.
Jal is a smart boy who matures through his lessons realizing that his faith is sustaining him and his friends as well as making life more peaceful. He learns through the fab-u-tales to give thanks for that which is provided whether he sees the givers or not, he learns that patience, observation and love are important.
Well written with strong characters that are fully developed. It is a calming and simple story that does not get in the way of the message.

    Interesting but flawed
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
At the start I would have, but having got to the end I am not so sure.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
There are some beautiful, colourful ideas and vivid writing, although it felt structurally flawed and many important and interesting themes were not really given their due.
What three words best describe Patricia Rodriguezs voice?
    fairytale, sing-song, smiling
Was The Book of Phoenix worth the listening time?
There is a lot to enjoy here. The book is beautifully written and highly imaginative as well as showing its world from a different perspective than that typically found in science fiction. If you are a fan of hard science fiction, then this is definitely not the book for you -- here the science is not the point. It;s the relationship between Phoenix, who is a person created by a faceless corporation, and the power structures around her.
That said, this book feels structurally flawed. Highly convenient things just magically happen to the main characters. The faceless and powerful corporation which represents the antagonist at times seems to be run by utter and complete idiots. It was also rare to feel that the characters ever feel in any genuine jeopardy -- they are all so godlike in their powers that the plot frequently feels like a polite dalliance.
    Any additional comments?
There's a child-like quality to the narration. This is reflected partly in the innocence of the main character and partly in the musical, story-time quality of Patricia Rodrigues' presentation. At times this really works, making certain moments more piquant for the fact that the reader can see what's coming when the character can't, but at other times it can feel patronising. Several times the author seems to feel the need to telegraph cultural references which would be more satisfying unexplained.
There's also a strong notion that Phoenix can basically do anything -- here powers are such that she never has difficulty using them, and of course she has a more powerful (male) mentor who laughingly explains that she just needs to think of something to do it.

    A favorite
My intoduction to epic fantasy as a child, and still one of my favorites. Deep characterization, fantastic locales and dark secrets, on a scale comparable to the Dune series. So glad it has made the transition to ebook for new fans to discover.

Magic, Technology, mystery, politics, underhanded schemes, love, lust, anger, hatred, war, what else could you ask for. Best Sci-Fi series I've ever read.

I really thought I would enjoy the story
After successfully building a colony on Mars and finding artifacts of another species. This group of six settlers/colonists set off to the "ends" of space to find the source of these artifacts. The trip will take half of their lifetime (which is why the ship is named Generation). Follow them on their journey to the edge of space.
I do not like to speak ill of anyone or anything. People work really hard at their selected craft and I don't like bashing them for doing what they enjoy. With that being said, the narration in this done by John Paul Nicholas was rough to sit through. Normally I can sit and listen to an audiobook for hours on end. I could only take 15-30 minute spurts with this narration. The problem was I could hear every.... inhale.... breath.... that the narrator.... took. It drove me mad after listening for a few minutes. I cannot give you a genuine review of the quality because all I could hear was breathing in between sentences.
Half of this rating is because of the narration and the other half is the story. Maybe because I jumped into the series at book two, but the first few chapters were just science fiction (we're in space on a ship) with a lot of fantasy elements mixed in. Something this can be done well, and others it just feels tacky and not well thought out. This was a case of the latter.
I really thought I would enjoy the story, I've been reading and reviewing some awesome new science fiction lately -- but this just seemed to fall flat. This is a take it or leave it story. There was nothing in it that I felt like I had to continue the series because of.
