Publisher's Summary:
Stranded on the hottest planet, she's got the job assignment from hell.
Bruised by tragedy, Space Corps agent Elfrida Goto accepts an assignment on Mercury, the factory of the solar system. But she's soon swept up in an election that could lead to the evacuation of the planet's colonists. Elfrida is torn between doing her job and supporting the colonists, who've built a vibrant underground world. When violence threatens, Elfrida turns for help to a reclusive local corporation that's hiding a terrible secret.
An alliance with criminals seems like a small price to pay, but it's not enough to stop a glamorous but malevolent candidate from stealing the election. Now the price of peace will be even higher. As violence engulfs Mercury, Elfrida confronts the evil power that would drive humanity out of space forever. And on a planet where sunlight itself is fatal, she has zero room for error.

Quirky, ambitious space opera
The Mercury Rebellion is a great mix of humour, believable science, complex politics, good old-fashioned human vices and a chilling AI threat. Itâs ambitious. Itâs quirky. And itâs a great read.
Sure there are some downright silly moments but overall the balance between serious, life or death situations (being stuck on the surface of Mercury with barely any oxygen left) and humour (âsplartâ enough said) is well managed. It also works very well as a standalone novel. Not having read any of the previous books in The Interplanetary War Series, I found there was enough background and information to quickly establish the main charactersâ back story and the world they were in.
The story itself is complex, with a number of threads being woven together, a host of characters and locations. And just as you think youâve figured out whatâs happening, the author triggers something thatâs been quietly building in the background. This works particularly well for the AI threat which is an ever present theme in the book.
Felix R Savage described this as âspace opera with a healthy side of humor, and not a few Big Ideasâ. I think that pretty much sums it up.
While I have enjoyed this series
While I have enjoyed this series, the author continuous attempts at deception and bait and switch of plot points to achieve suspense are becoming troublesome now that the series is in its third book and we are familiar with the main characters and overarching plot. The protagonist predictable, trouble follows her wherever she goes is becoming tiresome. I'm hopeful that the "undertone" subplot of the humans vs the PLAN finally begins to come to fruition in the next trilogy. So far, the author has done a diservice to the human characters as, although are intelligent enough to terraform Venus/Mercury and achieved space flight, they can't see the PLAN's plan even when its obvious to even the casual reader.
situational twists and yet remaining easy to read and maintaining a light hearted feel
A fascinating romp through a potentially near future scenario. Replete with intrigues, situational twists and yet remaining easy to read and maintaining a light hearted feel.
