    Publisher's Summary:
In a world where caffeine is distributed only by terrorists and 1000-SPF sunscreen isn't strong enough, scientists long for a discovery that will restore Earth to a greener state. However, the International Government likes to think it has everything under control, especially since it issues twenty to thirty new laws each day to keep its constituents current. Six-year-old Zeddy, whose IQ is off the charts, soon finds himself racing to avoid capture when his physicist father, Zane, goes missing. His mother, Zadie, suspects that the International Military Police have taken Zane, but Nimueh, the ancient Lady of the Lake, believes that he's in a parallel universe in a neighboring constellation. She also believes that young Zeddy, with a brain that is exceptionally rare is the key to saving Earth.
The Boy Who Played with Dark Matter is a charming tale told in the tradition of A Wrinkle in Time, by Madeline L'Engle. Like young Charles Wallace, who is misunderstood by his teachers and peers, Zeddy finds himself alone and forced to hide as much as possible in front of others. His only friend is a zutterfly made of dark matter, which proves to be a significant clue to finding his father.

    Captivating !
I just finished reading "The Boy Who Played with Dark Matter and thoroughly enjoyed it.
This is the second book I have read by the mysterious Holy Ghost Writer, and I have to say that I like his style more and more, he is very imaginative!
I'm usually not a big fan of sci-fi nor fantasy stories, but here it's subtly mixed with a bit of magic and adventure!
I liked the characters and with the futuristic setting because they were very believable and I love this kind of stories!
It take place in 2099, in the apocalyptic world, very tightly conformed where there is only one International Government that passes laws every day!
The main character is a little 6 years old boy named Zeddy, and one day his father disappear under mysterious circumstances.
And he wants to get him back! That's how his journey begins, and we follow Zeddy and his mother.
I loved these beautiful mystical creature made of dark matter: a Zutterfly. MAGICAL.
The suspense and mystery of the story made me read this book in one sitting! I really wanted the little Zeddy to find his father!
The character development is excellent and the story is excellent. It's a book to discover absolutely.
I found an enjoyable book and look forward to the next in the series.
Another Great Story line in The Count Series
This is book eleven of the larger Count of Monte Cristo series. If you have read any of the other books you will know that they are mostly able to stand alone. This one has a follow up book but you won't be lost if you started here, instead of book one.
There are huge gaps in time, and different story lines in most of the books. It's nice so you don't get stuck in any one story, there is always new and exciting things going on.
This book is in a dystopian future(about 90 years or so). The author HGW, has done a wonderful job of jumping around in time throughout this series. I'm a fan of historical pieces, but futuristic world's always fascinate me when done well.
HGW doesn't miss a beat, and as always the same creativity we have come to love is present.

    amazing book
I absolutely loved this book! It amazed me that she could see and hear everything going on and help her brother figure out what really happened to her. She didn't really care that she had been killed she just didn't want her brother to suffer. I recommend this book to everyone.

Good Ending to a GREAT Series!
I didn't LOVE this book as much as I LOVED the 1st two but that is sure asking for a lot! The 1st part of this book was good and had you wondering where the story was going, the middle was a bunch of nothing really and the end was exactly what I wanted and expected. I didn't end this feeling like I was left hanging. I loved this series so much that I will buy anything else written by Rebecca Donovan!!
Finally No More cliffhangers! I love a good HEA!!
I hate cliffhangers but I can honestly say the wait was worth it. This series caused a roller coaster of emotions. So much tragedy & abuse Emma had to endure. She always ended up hurting the ones she loved by pushing them away. My heart hurt for Emma. In the end, when you think that this poor girl will always stay broken she finally decides not to give up. She chooses to breath especially with Evan at her side. He never gave up and together they found their way back to each other. I'm glad the book ended the way it did. To me it was simply perfect.
A good ending to Emma and Evan's story
    Any additional comments?
I am glad that I did not listen bad reviews of this book. In this last installment of the series, Emma grew in to her own person. She learned to forgive herself and live/look forward to the future and not in the past. I love Evan. He has always been in love with Emma. I am glad that they worked things out. I like the fact that when I saw each other again, they took things slow and tried to work on what was wrong with their relationship instead of just dive in and get back to where they were. I agreed with other reviews that Emma's friends babied her too much. There's so much of eggshell one can walked on. All in all, this book gave me closure to this series.
TALK ABOUT AN EMOTIONAL ROLLER COASTER!!!
OMG!!! This series had my heart and brain fighting each other all over the place! You will want to console her, then slap her, then shake her, laugh out loud and then the tears come. I love books that grab you and this one did! This series held my attention from the very first chapter of "Reason to Breathe" until 15 minutes after I finished "Out of Breathe". I just cant say enough about Kate Rudd either! She was PERFECT for this story!! BRAVO!!
    Good but frustrating at times
Would you listen to Out of Breath again? Why?
    Probably not.

    Title: Sunlight
    Author: Josie Montano
    Narrator: Jessica Geffen
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 2 hrs and 35 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-01-13
    Publisher: Summer Solstice Publishing
    Genres: Teens, Fiction & Literature
    Publisher's Summary:
Living in the dark, knowing the sunlight is above. Out of reach. Paulini could feel its warmth beam down on her face, like a lighthouse giving hope to a vessel.
She was that vessel. An empty vessel. She is imprisoned in a hellhole, an abode of the damned. She is serving a sentence, her world not her own - no control over her life, no authority over her day, she must abide by the rules - but whose rules are they? And is she really imprisoned?
    Members Reviews:
Fascinating, impossible to put down book
Paulini yearns for sunlight, but is imprisoned away from it. She has cancer and is sixteen. Her dad can't deal with her disease, her brother wants her tech stuff when she dies, and associated Greek relatives are ... Greek dramatic. Her guy ignores her, going so far as to take up with a new girl, and even the local bully backs off. Paulini feels adrift.
Josie Montano's YA story opens with a bang and never slows down. Cancer treatments during a ten day hospital stay is compared to being in juvenile detention. The character's voice and reactions are very teen, and they come through in a way that hits home for everyone. This book is a must read for any family dealing with a teen that has cancer. It's a tonic for teens coping with this dreadful disease. I found myself cheering for Paulini to survive, to keep going, but the ending had me in tears. Wonderful job!
    Sunlight by Josie Montano
In this poignant story, Paulini discovers the true meaning of friendship and love, and finds an inner strength she never knew she had.
Sunlight is hard to put down, and readers are swept along on Paulini's difficult journey, as she struggles to cope with the treatment and the full impact of her illness.
Paulini is a great character with a strength and sense of humour that make her story even more poignant.
"Oh my God! Paulini, do you have cancer?"
Did she have to yell it out? Might as well have taken out an ad in one of those trash mags, `Girl, 16, cancer, might as well be dead.' Just wanted to run into the toilets and hide. I could hear the whispers, could see the solemn faces, they didn't know what to say, what to do. Honestly neither did I. I felt so sick in my stomach and so angry.
Josie Montana uses strong symbolism to share Paulini's plight and allow the reader to experience the depths of her emotions.
There's also a realism to Paulini's family that make her story so believable. Apart from her traumatised dad, there's her dramatic grandmother, Ya Ya and her younger brother, Theo who has his own way of dealing with things.
Sadly, teenagers do go through Paulini's experiences and it's important that stories like this be told. Teens need to be able to read and talk about these issues and find characters like Paulini that they can connect and empathise with.
In spite of its difficult topic and some heartbreak in the book, Sunlight ends on a positive note and gives the reader hope.
    YA booklover
Sunlight reads like a raw and gritty diary of 16 year old Paulini. The scenarios go between a teen faced with cancer and the metaphorical prison she feels a part of because of it. Montano's book will appeal to the emotional side of readers as they find out the inner thoughts of Paulini and her dealing with cancer.

Sixteen-year-old Ryan Matthews had always been the "cool" kid in school, but being cool doesn't get him a free pass into Heaven. Marty, Heavens gatekeeper, refuses to let him in until Ryan returns to Earth and makes a difference in someones life. Sounds easy enough. That is, until he learns that "someone" means Zachary Adams, his old classmate and the worlds biggest geek. Convincing Zachary that hes his angel isnt an easy task. Especially since Ryan hadnt exactly been nice to him when they were in school together. But Ryan is determined to see this assignment through, especially when he begins to see life through the eyes of a geek.
To make up for the way hed treated Zachary, Ryan is not only going to teach him how to fit in. Hes going to help him win the heart of Kristen Williams, a girl Ryan used to be close friends with, the same girl Zachary has a thing for. Will Ryan finally get those white wings hes been working toward? Or will he end up on the wrong side of those Pearly Gates, a hopelessly fallen angel?
    Members Reviews:
Through the Eyes of a Geek
"Through the Eyes of a Geek" teaches a moral lesson for the middle and high school grades. Other than the frequent language outbursts, which would be considered mild by most people, I actually quite enjoyed the book.
As the book begins, Ryan finds himself at the gates of heaven, having just died. But to get to the "babes" in heaven, he must first help someone on earth. The someone is the school's "biggest Geek", Zachary. Ryan is sure he's going to fail. But Ryan isn't really a quitter, so he lands "plop" in the front seat of Zach's car and Zach promptly runs off of the road.
The two main characters of this book are Zach and Ryan. These two characters are fairly well developed, but the rest remain on the flat side. Ryan is the super cool guy in school, not quite a bully, but he has handed out quite a bit of teasing to those who were not cool and runs around with the bully crowd. But his cool attitude hides dark secrets of his home life, and the reason he keeps his friends at a distance. Meanwhile, Zach is the biggest geek in the school, dealing with his own home heart aches. Each begins to see the world through the others eyes and a deeper understanding grows between them as they begin to work together. For the first time, they each can say that they have a real friend.
The plot was very predictable. It used the formula ... bad but cool boy/girl must help good but geeky outcast to reach a personal goal. Along the way, the two become friends. Cool kid helps the geeky kid come out of their shell and achieve a secret wish of their own (usually a date with the girl/boy that they secretly like). Geeky kid turns out to be pretty cool. Both learn from the experience, and it changes who they are.
For the most part, the book was entertaining and fun, although I was dismayed at the huge amount of money it took for Zach to become a cool kid. Money he did happen to have, but a path that might be well out of reach for geeky kids looking for inspiration to become less of a target at school. Also, Zach knows ta-kwan-do, and is able to defend himself and Kristen against the biggest school bully.

Hes sick of peddling honey and pamphlets of his fathers writings. And most of all he hates stealing things, even though J. P. says its all right to "reclaim" necessities from society. Gussies wealthy parents live in Boston, and Fergy hopes that if he can find them, he and Ooma can have the "regular and normal" life he longs for. How Fergy comes to grips with his relationship with his parents and his own expectations makes a provocative, at times painful, but always absorbing story about a boys determination to make abetter life for himself.
    Critic Reviews:
"In addressing a boys dilemma over his sense of morality versus his responsibility to his parents, Collier raises some important questions. An engaging, fast-paced story, and readers, who will appreciate this view of these unorthodox characters, will have much to think about and discuss." (School Library Journal)

And what is Circus connection to his father?
My Crooked Family is both a gripping mystery and a powerful coming-of-age novel about a 14-year-olds decision to enter a world of professional crime.
    Critic Reviews:
"Although 14-year-old Roger Hardys life of crime starts small (he heists a bucket of fried rice), the boy has played a key role in two major robberies by the time this novel is over. Collier does an excellent job in portraying the poverty, hunger, and abuse that drive Roger to illicit activity, and his novel - set in an unnamed city in the '20s - is suffused with a flawless sense of place." (Publishers Weekly)
"Set in 1919 in a big city district with whores, hoodlums, and saloons, this coming-of-age novel duplicates the pattern of several of Colliers other books.... The mood is grim, an accurate portrayal of poverty." (School Library Journal)

    Short but Emotional Read
Out of This Place was originally released last year under the title Cinnamon Rain by Australian author Emma Cameron. Im a fan of verse novels so was so excited to see this one was getting a US release. This book is short but packs an emotional punch, and the verse format makes the story that much more meaningful. Out of This Place chronicles the tale of three high school teens: Luke, Casey, and Bongo. All three have difficulties at home and long for a better future.
I liked the multi POV and how it was used to get us up to speed on all the characters lives. It also goes to show that we dont know everything there is to know about our good friends, because things are not always what they seem on the outside.
One of the messages that spoke to me was the idea of shaping your own family, letting people in, and accepting help. The friendships formed in the book really made a difference in their lives.
I picked up the audiobook of Out of This Place, which is maybe an unconventional choice for a novel in verse. I was sold on the audio though when I saw that there were three separate narrators for each characters part. Also, the narrators are Australian and since the book is set there I thought that would give just the right flavor to the story. The narrators do a good job of making you feel the characters emotions, but perhaps some of the verse feeling wasnt as strong as it is in print. I thought Caseys part was where the verse shined through the most, interestingly. I did think I understood the slang a little better with Australian narrators and it did bring the setting more to life. Many verse novels are fast reads, and in fact this audiobook is just over three hours long, but it manages to convey quite a powerful story in that time.

The book tried to take me somewhere...where?
As I mention on Goodreads: "The book was good, no question. The characters were amazing and there were some really neat scenes I could picture in my mind. The plot and perhaps what I was hoping for, just did not deliver for me."
The blurb made me feel as if the centerpieces of the story(Tessa and Lucien) would be more prominent. Anyway, the story is that Tessa is in love with Lucien who is described as sexy, artistic and basically just a hot guy she loves and she dumped her boyfriend back in America for him because who can have a long distance relationship like that? The blurb also mentioned that Lucien becomes volatile.
Well...he does become sort of possessive and once or twice he pulled on Tessa hard(which is still abuse) but I kept feeling as if more would happen and it did not. Then there are his "friends" Kai and Esme who are exotic, druggies, and hang with the wrong crowd- Tessa really believes they are her friend. Meanwhile Tessa has family issues and somehow it is connected to Lucien's family. Talk about drama.
I really wanted to give this book five stars for theme and character. But the plot messed me up and the pacing was swervy and perhaps my expectations did me in as well.
    Frustrating
Argh. I hate writing negative reviews. But When You Open Your Eyes didn't sit right with me, so here we go.
The writing is a little strange. Not necessarily bad, just unusual. For example, the author often uses reported speech instead of regular dialogue, or a few phrases between the dialogue are reported speech. Maybe it's only because I'm not used to it, but that bothered me a little; it just felt strange. The writing is very descriptive; too descriptive at parts, in my opinion, making When You Open Your Eyes read slowly, even though it's really short. The chapters are very short - there are about 100 chapters in this 300-page book - which I also found unusual. None of this is necessarily bad - it's just different, and it took me a while to get used to the style.
I'm not sure what to make of the plot. It's kind of... non-descript. I kept waiting for something big and dramatic to happen, and it didn't. We just kind of float through Tessa's life alongside her. That was how I felt until about 40 pages to the end, at which point things definitely start happening. But then, everything happens at once, and it was just too much. I would have preferred something a little more balanced - more action in the first part and less towards the end.
Tessa is an okay character. I didn't love her, didn't feel that there was anything special about her, really.

    Publisher's Summary:
A lyrical novel about family and friendship from critically acclaimed author Benjamin Alire Sáenz.
Aristotle is an angry teen with a brother in prison. Dante is a know-it-all who has an unusual way of looking at the world. When the two meet at the swimming pool, they seem to have nothing in common. But as the loners start spending time together, they discover that they share a special friendship - the kind that changes lives and lasts a lifetime. And it is through this friendship that Ari and Dante will learn the most important truths about themselves and the kind of people they want to be.
    Critic Reviews:
Benjamin Alire Saenz is a writer with a sidewinder punch. Spare sentences connect resonant moments, and then he knocks you down with emotional truth. The story of Ari and Dantes friendship widens and twists like a river, revealing truths about how hard love is, how family supports us, and how painfully deep you have to go to uncover an authentic self." (Judy Blundell, National Book Award-winning author of What I Saw and How I Lied)
"This book took my breath away. What gorgeous writing, and what a story! I loved both these boys. And their parents! Don't we all wish we had parents like theirs? The ending - and the way it unfolded - was so satisfying. I could go on and on...suffice it to say I will be highly recommending it to one and all. I'm sure I'll reread it myself at some point. I hated having it end." (James Howe, author of Addie on the Inside)
"Im absolutely blown away. This is Saenz's best work by far.... Its a beautiful story, so beautifully told and so psychologically acute! Both Ari and Dante are simply great characters who will live on in my memory. Everything about the book is absolutely pitch perfect.... Its already my favorite book of the year!" (Michael Cart, Booklist)

I think what moves me is just all of the small subtle moments between Ari and Dante that moved me; you can feel how they feel for each other in each interaction and conversation, and you can see how each of them grows after each interaction.
I also really love those big moments.. hearing them.... when Ari got hurt... and when Dante got hurt, and Ari's reaction to it. All of those moments were just beautiful to listen to.
    Any additional comments?
This story is beautiful, simplistic (in a wonderful way,) and touching. The relationship between these two boys is so moving and powerful because it is not obvious and in your face; instead, it's subtle and gradual how we change one another in any relationship, how we grow and transform throughout a relationship and how we are never the same in the end.
You know soon into the story how things will turn out, but you still keep listening to hear because it is so beautifully written, and you fall in love with the characters while dreaming that you had such a friendship.
I don't usually listen to audiobooks for long periods of time.
