Publisher's Summary:
Malls, stadiums, and universities are actually liturgical structures that influence and shape our thoughts and affections. Humans - as Augustine noted - are "desiring agents", full of longings and passions; in brief, we are what we love.
James K. A. Smith focuses on the themes of liturgy and desire in Desiring the Kingdom, the first book in a three-volume set on the theology of culture. He redirects our yearnings to focus on the greatest good: God. Ultimately, Smith seeks to re-envision education through the process and practice of worship. Students of philosophy, theology, worldview, and culture will welcome Desiring the Kingdom, as will those involved in ministry.

I purchased this book on the recomendation of Dr. Mark Chironna. It has been all he said and then some for me. I add my recomendation to his, and suggest that whoever is after an understanding of Worldview, start here!
Just thought Iâd go on and read a text book for fun
I just started this book, and it is a challenge i love to take on! Definitely challenges the view of Christian education and what itâs for and what it does, it challenges the hearts desires and how we view them. Highly recommended
Revisionng Education
When JAK Smith wrote this book he reignited the discussion about the nature of CHristian Education. He is a lucid writer who I think rightly see that anthropology holds the key to understanding to the nature of Education and more specifically Christian Education. It is a good corrective to the general thrust from the reformed Christian educationalists who can be prone to seeing humans as essentially "thinking beings" rather than worshipping/desiring beings. I would recommend those who are in the position of shaping the educational endeavour of their institution to read this book and to engage with the ideas that Smith presents.
Advanced ideas but enjoyed it
This was a stretch for me. The author spent the whole book making pretty much one point: that we as human beings were created to desire, to be passionate and how the imagination speaks to heart better than anything through communal worship and stories or anything that involves the imagination.
The point is not to stop being passionate but to guide that passion through the use of religious worship involving the imagination.
An important read for pastors and educators.
An important read for pastors and educators. It moves beyond Christianity as a set of beliefs and roots Christian education in the liturgical nature of Hun being
