    Title: As Kingfishers Catch Fire
Subtitle: A Conversation on the Ways of God Formed by the Words of God
    Author: Eugene H. Peterson
    Narrator: Fred Sanders
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 15 hrs and 25 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-16-17
    Publisher: Random House Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 35 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
"Sixty years ago I found myself distracted," Eugene Peterson writes. "A chasm had developed between the way I was preaching from the pulpit and my deepest convictions on what it meant to be a pastor."
And so began Peterson's journey to live and teach a life of congruence - congruence between preaching and living, between what we do and the way we do it, between what is written in scripture and how we live out that truth.
Nothing captures the biblical foundation for this journey better than Peterson's teachings over his 29 years as a pastor. As Kingfishers Catch Fire offers a never-before-published collection of these teachings to anyone longing for a richer, truer spirituality.
Peterson's strikingly beautiful prose and deeply grounded insights usher us into a new understanding of how to live out the good news of the word made flesh.
This is one man's compelling quest to discover not only how to be a pastor but how to be a human being.
    Critic Reviews:
    "
As Kingfishers Catch Fire covers it all, the A to Z of Christian spirituality. It is filled with the kind of wisdom that can only come from long obedience in the same direction! It's more than a book; it's a gift. Thank you, Eugene!" (Mark Batterson,
New York Times best-selling author of
The Circle Maker and lead pastor of National Community Church, Washington, DC)

    A collection of 49 sermons
Scripture is always the central focus on Eugene Petersons writing. Practice Resurrection may be about the church and spiritual development, but it is about how the book of Ephesians talks about the church and spiritual development. Run with the Horses may be about excellence, but it is framed by looking at excellence through Jeremiah the prophet. The Contemplative Pastor may be about spiritual direction and the role of the pastor, but it is largely through the lens of the beatitudes and other scripture that he looks at the pastors role.
As Kingfishers Catch Fire is Petersons book on preaching. It isnt that lay people wont get something out of this, I certainly do not actively preach, but I think it was written for pastors. Non-pastors probably will read this more as a devotional book. But pastors should read this as a master class in how our preaching is to be about scripture first and most of all and how scripture points to God.
The seven sections, each with seven sermons, are all looking at how a particular biblical author communicates God to us through scripture. The sections are labeled, Preaching in the company of Moses, or David, or Isaiah, or Solomon, or Peter, or Paul, or John of Patmos. If you have read some of his other books you can seem a few of the drafts of ideas that were worked out in his books that started in his sermons. And based on the illustrations and content of the sermons, these stretched widely throughout his preaching career, from early days with young children to the 50th anniversary of the church that he started.
One of Petersons books that I enjoyed browsing is his Take and Read, an annotated list of books that he has found helpful. Petersons wide ranging interests and his ability to reference popular and academic books, theology and fiction, poetry and prose is an example of how ideas and stories have seeped deeply into his life.

    Title: The Book of Jubilees
Subtitle: Re-Presented by Robert Bagley III
    Author: Robert Bagley III
    Narrator: Steve Cook
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 5 hrs and 55 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-25-17
    Publisher: Rb3 Solutions, LLC
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 41 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Between 1947 and 1956, approximately 15 copies of the Book of Jubilees were found among the Dead Sea Scrolls. This is second only in number to Psalms, Deuteronomy, Isaiah, Exodus, and Genesis, and far greater than any other extra-biblical text found there, including "The Book of Enoch.
Also called the "The Little Genesis," "Book of Divisions," and the "Apocalypse of Moses," the "Book of Jubilees" is an apocryphal work (not accepted as Scripture) which historians believe was delivered to Moses by God on Mount Sinai. It was almost lost over thousands of years, but was retrieved from the Ethiopic language.
It re-interprets the contents of Genesis 1 - Exodus 12 (or according to some scholars, Genesis 1 - Exodus 15:22 or Exodus 16), which are here arranged in 49 periods, each of 49 years in length, the whole forming a Jubilee of Jubilees (Lev 25: 8-13).
The Book also gives additional details such as the fall of the angels, and the creation and destruction of the Nephilim detailing that one-tenth of their disembodied spirits would stay on earth as demons to tempt people and the rest would be imprisoned until the Tribulation Period.
The Oxford Christian Dictionary states, "The original Hebrew text survives only in fragments found in the Dead Sea Scrolls at Qumran. Up until their discovery, the work was known only from an Ethiopic translation of the whole and incomplete versions in Latin and Syriac. The fact that the surviving Hebrew fragments are from at least 12 different caves indicates that the Book enjoyed considerable popularity among the Qumran community." (The Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church, s.v. "Jubilees, Book of." Page 905.)

Discover the secrets of the Old and New Testament in this amazing book.
This beginner guide includes a detailed description of the Bible and how to apply its teachings to your everyday life.
In this book, we hope to help you connect with God on a more personal level by enhancing your knowledge of the Bible, scriptures, prayer, and worship. Learn the history of the origin and composition of the Bible, how the Bible was formed, and what the great influences of the times were that propagated change. View a short synopsis of the Old and New Testament, and 10 scripture stories that are necessary for the understanding of Christianity.
We have listed the chapters and books of the Bible chronologically, so that if someone wanted to study the Bible in order according to when it was lived, instead of when it has been listed in the table of contents of the Holy Bible, there is the opportunity to do so. Studying the Bible chronologically can help one make sense of the ever changing tableau when reading Kings and Chronicles.
You will learn differing methods of Bible study, and proposed memorization of scripture. We have recommended tried and true methods for adult learning of scriptures. There is also a section on the importance of prayer and corporate worship. There are suggestions for a typical prayer and how to look for a home church or fellowship.
Included is an index of helpful scriptures to reference in times of personal trials and tribulations. Memorizing these scriptures can offer a great comfort to one who is worried or at the end of their rope.

    Good historical perspective
I like the historical perspective provided, but I was looking for more of a scripture by scripture type of account. That's not how this book is handled. More of summaries.
Not what I expected. I expected a more in ...
Not what I expected. I expected a more in depth history of the bible and not necessarily the stories, but where they came from.
    Five Stars
    Love it
    Not for Everyone
Not as detailed as I thought it would be. Glosses over the topics too quickIy. I found the "slang" offensive. Perhaps a younger reader was the target audience.
    Good
A good basic easy to read guide to begin with. I read it over time and now will reread it for better understanding.

    Title: God Has a Name
    Author: John Mark Comer
    Narrator: John Comer
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 4 hrs and 34 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-11-17
    Publisher: Zondervan
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 89 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Many of us ache for relationship with God, yet feel distant and disconnected from him. As if he's more of an idea we believe in our head than a person we relate to. But God has a name: Yahweh. This one simple idea has the potential to radically alter how you relate to God, not as a doctrine, but as a relational being who responds to you in an elastic, back-and-forth way.
Why do we feel this gap between us and God? Could it be that a lot of what we think about God is wrong? Not all wrong, but wrong enough to mess up how we relate to him? What if our "God" is really a projection of our own identity, ideas, and desires? And what if the real God is different, but far better than we could ever imagine?
This book is a simple, but profound guide to what God says about himself. In his signature conversational-but-smart style, John Mark Comer takes the listener line by line through Exodus 34 v6-8 - Yahweh's self-revelation on Mount Sinai - called by some scholars the one most quoted verse in the Bible, by the Bible. In it, we see who God says he is.
It turns out, who God is just might surprise you, and change everything.

    Highly Recommend
John Mark has a way of writing that makes you feel as if you were sitting across from him at a coffee shop, having a conversation. He breaks down passages of the Bible, making it relatable to modern times and easy to digest for the reader. I highly recommend.
    fantastic
A breath of fresh air exploring who Yahweh actually is, not just who I thought He was. He is so much bigger. Mr Comer did a great job writing this book and reading it. I hate it when people loosely toss the term "life changing" around, but this book can be.
    So helpful!
Very powerful perspective on who God is. I wish I discovered this kind of perspective earlier in my life. Always
    Excellent teaching!
John Mark Comer is an excellent teacher! He digs deep and delivers thought provoking, personal theology challenging teachings that will grow and stretch you to understand the character of God. I highly suggest this book! I love that it is read by him, he is clear and easy to listen to. Fantastic! I will be listening to this again, multiple times and buying the hard copy to have in my library forever.
    Mind blown!
Loved it! Going to reread immediately! I will also be looking for more if his books!

    Publisher's Summary:
David Limbaugh, the New York Times bestselling author of Jesus on Trial and The Emmaus Code, now approaches the question of Jesus Christ's divinity - In what sense was Jesus God? How do we know? - with the same precise, methodical form of enquiry he has employed in his career as lawyer and law professor. Examining the New Testament closely, Limbaugh zeroes in on esoteric passages not commonly linked to Jesus Christ's divinity and draws forth startling new evidence that Jesus was Creator - not created.

An honest overview of the Gospel, 10/10, S Rank
David Limbaugh writes an honest, and very accurate overview of the Gospel. The Life, Works, Tribulations, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus who is Christ is laid out in the manner that is was intended to be understood. I would recommend this to anyone, not just believers, who wishes a better understanding of the Gospel. 10/10, Cool God, Very wow! Would Praise.
    Great!!
Excellent book!! Highly recommended. Whether you're a beginning Christian or a seasoned one, this book is a must-have in your library. I can't wait for the next installment!
    Wait no more.
Thank you Mr. Limbaugh, my spirit is stirred and lifted by your writings and God's grace. Wait no more to call upon the Lord, he is the way the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father but through Jesus. This wonderful book will help the skeptic and unbeliever look at the Gospels with one simple perspective that Jesus is the The Savior.
    An Amazing Read
Would you listen to The True Jesus again? Why?
This book was such an eye opener about the life of Jesus. David Limbaugh knocked it out of the park with this book. I have such a great understanding of the life of Jesus after listening to this book. I will definitely be listening to Mr. Limbaugh's other books.
    Great book!
Great insight and information! Also great narration.. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves Christ or just wants to learn more about him.

we are blessed with spiritual blessing not money!
this book leans toward the false gospel of financial prosperity as the "blessing".
how are those believers in Sudan, or North Korea, blessed if they have nothing? there for the blessing we receive in Christ has nothing to do with material blessing. we tend to rebuke hardship as lack of blessing, I say God uses hardship to bless us. as evidence I point to Paul, and John who both wrote from prison, was prison a blessing? apparently!! God uses our prisons as a means to bless us, or for us to realize what is important. Americans tend to disregard spiritual blessings from hard times because we are spoiled.
    Thank you!
Loved it! Easy to follow. A lot of scripture, which I love. The word is powerful, the will of God and builds faith. Therfore, I am assured that Jesus hears my prayers. He answers according to HIS WILL. PLUS, WITHOUT FAITH it's impossible to please GOD.
    Great book
I believe in speaking and confessing the word of God. This book is very informative especially realizing the shalom of God. Would recommend it.
    Blessing!
Loved every word! One of a kind!!! Would recommend to all who love the Lord and those who doesn't know Him.

His final words are your new beginning
It's Good Friday. The Son of God is giving up his life. What does he want to say to us in his final hours? What does he tell the people standing at the foot of the cross to pass down to the ages? He speaks only seven short statements. Words of forgiveness, salvation, relationship, abandonment, distress, triumph, and reunion. Seven statements that mean everything.
In Seven-Mile Miracle, Pastor Steven Furtick shows us how Jesus' last words offer mile markers for our journey in relationship with God. It's a lifelong journey, and it's not always easy. But Jesus is both our guide and our destination as we travel. Put your feet on a proven path - the road that Jesus walked.
Includes questions for reflection and a 40-day reading guide to Jesus' death and resurrection.
A proven path for spiritual growth
From time to time, we all feel stuck in our relationship with God and frustrated by life's setbacks. Jesus faced what could have been the ultimate defeat on the cross. Yet he emerged triumphant through his relationship with his heavenly father. And he showed us the way so that we could do the same.
In Seven-Mile Miracle, Steven Furtick explores how Jesus' seven last statements on the cross offer a proven spiritual growth path for us. You will experience the Easter message more personally than ever before as you engage the words of forgiveness, salvation, relationship, abandonment, distress, triumph, reunion.
After all, we are not simply believers - people who have put our faith in Jesus. We are not simply disciples - pupils who learn from him. We are called to be followers of Christ. This is your opportunity to follow Jesus through his death and move forward in his resurrection power, starting now.

Divine health and prosperity are better than divine healing and provision. If you live in divine health and prosperity, you won't need a miracle to get healed or to pay your bills. If you can't see the difference between the two, that may be one reason you only visit God's best instead of truly living in it.
Most Christians live in a place where it's just a matter of time before there's a crisis in their lives and they need a miracle. You might think it would be wonderful to go from miracle to miracle, but that means you'd also be going from crisis to crisis!
Miracles are great when you need one, but you weren't meant to continually get by on them. God wants to change where you live. Let Andrew show you how to live in God's best today!

Title: The Heart of Centering Prayer

    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 62 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Centering prayer is the path to a wonderful and radical new way of seeing the world. It is not, as is sometimes thought, simply an act of devotional piety, nor is it a Christianized form of other meditation methods. Cynthia Bourgeault here cuts through the misconceptions to show that centering prayer is in fact a pioneering development within the Christian contemplative tradition. She provides a practical, complete course in the practice and then goes deeper to analyze what actually happens in centering prayer: the mind effectively switches to a new operating system that makes possible the perception of nonduality. With this understanding in place, she then takes us on a journey through one of the sources of the practice, the Christian contemplative classic The Cloud of Unknowing, revealing it to be among the earliest Christian explorations of the phenomenology of consciousness.
Cynthia Bourgeault's illumination of the centering prayer path provides compelling evidence of how important the practice has become in the half century since it first arose among American Trappist monks and of its maturation and refinement over the ensuing years of sincere study and practice. It will resonate with beginners on the centering prayer path as well as with seasoned practitioners.

A gift for the centering prayer movement
This is a bold, provocative and challenging study by someone who obviously has genuine experience as well as brilliant insight. This book is a real gift to the centering prayer movement, which is currently at a critical crossroad. I very much appreciate the author's exploration of the Cloud of Unknowing, which I have struggled with for years. More of that, please. I'd like for her to write a study of the whole book. I was not happy with the reader, whom I found detached from the material, a little smug, and too rushed for this deep material. I regret that Cynthia didn't elect to read it herself.
Being present in the Heart of it all
She reconnected me to the 12th Cent book The Cloud of Unknowing What a Gift
    Reading is to fast.
One should slow the dictation down to x.75 speed.
The reader is speaking at light speed speech.
Narration is difficult to listen to
I could not get past the first chapter because the narration was too fast and harsh sounding especially for a book called the heart of centering prayer
Not a fan. Complicated my quiet prayer time
Come to me all ye who are weary and I will give you rest. This book made coming to Jesus in quiet contemplation complicated and wearisome.
